Hello,
I'm planning on building a PC sometime this Summer (or sooner). Back when I could afford to keep my PC current, I played a lot of BF 1942, and enjoyed multiplayer a bunch. However, it seemed like for every fun, non-hacked game there was another game where people would randomly quit, or resort to racist/ sexist remarks in lieu of firearms, or resorting to TKing'. Now that I've decided to get back into PC gaming, I decided I'd had enough of the poor sports, etc. last time around, so I'd find a clan to play 2142 and (maybe) 2 with. After doing a bit of research, I realized that most clans are either full, or VERY good at the game. Then I remember stumbling across this site about a year ago, and came here. Emphasis on squad based playing is great, and all of you guys seem friendly, so later on I'll give playing with you guys a go. I do have a couple of questions- I understand that vanilla BF 2 isn't very popular here; why? Do you still play vanilla 2142? Are all the severs locked to Tactical Gamers, or can anyone come into the server and play? Do you have scheduled matches, or do you just play whenever? Do you only play against yourselves, or do you go up against clans? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the lengthy post. ![]()

Re: I'm new, and have a few questions.
Welcome to TG Geranium! I think it's a big compliment to our community that you remember us for our teamwork a year down the road. So, thank you! I don't play BF2 so I'm not really sure how many guys here at TG still play the original. I know some of my squadmates are into Forgotten Hope 2. As for BF2142, the vanilla version is still going strong. Our main BF2142 server is a 50 player conquest server with heavy infantry maps and usually a few armor maps as well. The server stays full most of the time. As you know, the focus here at TG is Teamwork and honorable play. I recommend you visiting the official rules, announcements and SOP section of this forum and reading up on our "play style". Come and join us anytime on the server! You are welcomed to join any TG squads. Once you get involved, your outlook on gaming is likely to change forever.

Re: I'm new, and have a few questions.
About your questions regarding server and matches, the server is usually open. We play internal scrims frequently enough and there are two external scrims against GUN and MG coming up soon enough. BTW after a couple of rounds on the TG server you won't be able to pub any more ever. Also look into how the SM and IHS work (supporting member, in house squad). Basically you get lots of perks from becoming an SM mainly reserved slots on all game TG play, an email, a higher priority in being picked for scrims, some hosting space and possibly the most important perk is being able to join an IHS. An IHS is a group of people similar to what a clan would be. There's about 6 that actively play 2142.

Re: I'm new, and have a few questions.
Wow, thanks for the prompt answers! Now I'm defiantly going to play here (when I have built my PC.) On a separate topic, have any of you built a PC before? I have a pretty good understanding of how to, but I was just wondering if any of you have any tips/ warnings. Thanks again for the great responses!

Re: I'm new, and have a few questions.
Firstly, welcome Geranium, it's always great to see new people on here, and you'd be right about assuming that this is a place where teamplay and having a good time is key, and immaturity and offensive language is frowned upon, although we do like to post the occasional pictures of cake...
. I think clicking on the "New to TG" link in nuckj's signature should give you a good place to read about what we're all about, but it seems to me that you've already looked this stuff up, which is great. you may also want to quickly check out this thread, and any other threads that have "REQUIRED READING" in their title. Just remember: Our slogan is The premiere community for mature gamers. and we try to live by that, but at the same time, we try not to take ourselves too seriously and have a good laugh. On your other question about building PCs, I suggest checking this forum, which can also be found in the main forums (which can be accessed by clicking the link up top between "games" and "FAQ." Also, this thread may help you out a little, but if you want answers to your specific questions, it may be better to start your own thread, those tech guys down there are very helpful. Hope I have been some help, and hope to be squadding up with you soon.

Re: I'm new, and have a few questions.
Check out this UK forum for PC building.
Build Your Own PC Most of the guys here are very helpful. You don't encounter all the arrogance that you find in most PC building/modding forums. They also have a step by step guide that really helps if its the first time you've put one together. Here is the thread where I put mine together... First Build Complete - With Pics! Good Luck! |
