New here, both at TG and 2142.

Hello all!

I've only been playing 2142 for a few days, but I must say this is a deadly awesome game. On top of that, the TG servers really make my experience much more enjoyable and memorable. Only once can I remember a squad that didnt want to comply with orders, but then again it wasnt a TG squad. Every TG squad member that I have encountered has been quick to communicate with their squad members and always follow their SL's orders. I am happy to see that TG prioritizes teamwork as much as it does. I have only been on two other servers besides TG, but the experience that I have gotten at TG Im sure is better than anything I'd experience anywhere else. I just have to say thank you to all of those who make running the servers possible and I look forward to more awesome times on these servers.

Thanks,
xrisonfire08

Re: New here, both at TG and 2142.

Welcome to TG, you have found a home for gaming here. If you haven't already done so, please take a moment to read the rules and sign the Gentlemens' Agreement. Now that you are so happy here, isn't it better when you can sign on the server at any time no matter how many people are on? Oh, you wouldn't know that feeling yet.........."hint" $10 per month gets you a guaranteed spot plus much, much, more. You will never regret being a supporting member as long as you play!

Re: New here, both at TG and 2142.

Welcome, Xrison (if that's what I should call you, I think you should post up on here what you would like to be called).

Since you are a new player, may I suggest that the AED-Defibrillator (which is one of the first locks for the assault kit) should be one of your main unlocks. As Azura said:

Quote:

and the defib is the equipment needed to do that. There is almost always room for an assault with a defib in any TG squad, so this will go a long way, as well as unlocking the rockets. Since the latest patch, there are a lot of players that like the default assault rifles (Krylov and SCAR), so the upgraded ARs (Voss and Baur) aren't necessary. I suggest trying to use the upgradeable ARs with Field Upgrades. If you like one or both of them, you should upgrade to them.

Next, grenades are absolutely necessary. Like the defib, it should be one of your first unlocks. The sprint unlocks are also useful. The most useful squad leading piece equipment IMHO is the squad leader squad beacon. The SLSB is also the most basic one, and when first starting out as an SL, as you don't want to try too much too fast, this would probably be your best option, although, unless you want to start squad leading early on in your BF2142 "career," you can wait to get a few other unlocks before you get this one.

If you're planning to play on TG servers a lot, which it looks like you are, then you should know that you won't be needing many recon upgrades, so you can save them for last. Unless you are magnificent at the role, there is not much room for recons in a squad at TG, which means you should probably try and get the support, assault and anti-vehicle upgrades first IMHO. Motion mines are probably the most useful piece of kit, after the defib, so just remember that (i'm getting by on my Engy upgrades, and I only have the motion and EMP mines unlocked). The Pilum is great for grounded vehicles, and SAAWs can be effective against airborne vehicles, but you need to have some good skill with it (which I don't have, but they do teach how to use it in some TGU classes (TGU = Tactical Gamer University = classes for TGers to acquire and/or improve skills).

Remember, use Field Upgrades, and pick up kits (press G (default) while standing over a kit) to try out new pieces of equipment as well as guns. I realise you didn't ask for this advice, but when I started out in 2142, I was a lonely pubbie that had no idea what to unlock, and later on, when the unlocks aren't coming so easily, you'll be happy you picked good choices to begin with. The defib was a very late unlock for me, which I now realise was a big mistake.

I can see from your profile you've taken a shine to the support class, which is good, most people on here like the assault as their primary kit, and making yourself a good support player can make you a very good asset to the squad, as the usual full (6-player) squad will be made up of 5 assaults and 1 support on infantry (and mixed) maps. [post=870479]Click here[post] for Insunabula's definition of infantry/mixed/armour maps, which I very much agree with, although I'm not sure if it's "official." I also unlocked support first, however, I unlocked everything other than the Clark (the shotgun) until I just unlocked it today. It has become very powerful since the last patch, as have sentry guns. In fact, the support kit has been bolstered nicely in the last patch, so you've come to be support at a good time . If you're interested, you can read my very long guide on the support kit's equipment (but it does not include the Northern Strike upgrades or the Clark, as I do not have NS, and I did not have the Clark when I wrote this.) Note: I use EMP grenades a lot more now, especially on armour maps, as they used to not be so good on regular servers, as you would sit there EMPing for ages, and no-one would take it down. Eventually, the driver would get out and shoot me, but due to TG's awesome squad attitude, once you have an engy with you, your EMP nades become almost essential to taking down strong armour. Also note that when I say 1.40 patch near the end, I am mistaken, and actually mean the 1.25 patch. Some of the information there has become invalid due to the new patch, but it can give you some useful information.

I'm by far not one of the top players here at the 2142 TG community, so hopefully some other TG guys can give you some better advice on unlocks, and you can also find some good advice given to others who asked about what to unlock, by searching the forums for them.

On another note, you said

Well I spent a long time on other servers and have never found a better experience anywhere else. I was always drifting between servers, and I occasionally still do, but I can confirm that TG is the best experience in battlefield 2142 that I, personally, have ever had.

Good luck on the battlefiled, and hope to be squadding up with you soon (well, some time today, since today is the last day I'll be playing for the next 5-6 months).

P.S. Don't worry about writing long posts, I never do

No-one's on the server now...damn European times...but if you're located in the US or Canada, you should be fine to come on at any decent time and find a populated TG server.

Re: New here, both at TG and 2142.

Welcome to TG!

The amount of info thrown at you immediately may be overwhelming. Don't feel like you have to learn everything right away.

Just follow your SL orders, communicate, and have fun!
Feel free to squad up with me any time.

See you in there!

That couldn't have been directed at me slightly could it

Of course, bb is right, those are the main things that you need to do, and he remembered something that I forgot in my long-winded post, which is the most important thing; to have fun.

I remember thinking that it would be a very complicated process when I started up in a squad on TG for the first time, but it really wasn't. Having played on the server already, you probably know this.

P.S. The SOPs are fairly useful, but they're not really used. Having a basic understanding of them and reading over them a few times should be more than enough. The only sort of remotely technical thing you need to remember is your North, East, South, West. after a while it will become instinctive so you don't have to pause for a second to remember it, and you should be fine. (Even this is not essential, but it is very helpful.)
