It's true, he does toss his tags away like they're mardi gra beads, I've seen it .

Re: Dog Tags

Nuck, I think you're overreacting. It is pretty clear that you're not trying to stir the pot any. Besides, there is some very positive discussion coming out of this subject, so there's nothing wrong. It hardly seems like something that needs to be closed.

Re: Dog Tags

I have 1965 knife kills without ever stepping onto a knife server. Early in the game it was a trophy and cool to work towards your badges. Now it got more to a "friendly reminder". If I knife someone it is to say....

"Hey fella... I think your position was strategically weak"

or

"I think you should stay closer to your Squad next time"

or

"Maybe your Squad should have exchanged information better and used more ways to gather information about the things going on around you."

I seem to recall you delivering all three of these messages to me the other night...

Re: Dog Tags

In the time I've played I have not collected very many tags. I only pull the knife out for one of two reasons:

1. I am doing something stupid.

or

2. I've thrown my nades, burned through my primary mag, emptied my pistol, and there is nowhere left to run and no time to reload...

Also, do any of you NOT have my tags?

Re: Dog Tags

I've been playing for a few months, and I have something like 40 tags...but who's counting.

Trophies and humiliation aside, I think knife use on the field can (and should) be a solid, strategic tactic.

Often I will knife for multiple reasons, the least of which is to humiliate the other player.

Mainly:

1) Conservation of loaded ammo is always near the top of my list. Put 5 rounds in the guy's back, have his buddy run around the corner, and you might wish you had them back in your clip.

2) Stealth is as important for the sniper-killer as the sniper at times. If you stumble upon a sniper and suspect that there are other enemies near, the last thing you want to do is give away your position by blasting him.

3) Taking that knife opportunity will keep your skills sharp (pun intended) for #1 and #2. (Also It's pretty embarassing to fail at knifing someone and getting blasted or knifed yourself. )

Of course it can be abused, and one should never put their team and squad at risk for the glory knife. However, used wisely it can be a great asset.

Oh yeah, and it's fun

Re: Dog Tags

Believe me when I tell you that knifing someone in NO WAY keeps your position secret. The first thing that happens when I get knifed is I say"***** **** **** ******", the second thing is that I tell my squad that I was just knifed and make them aware.
I like when you get knifed and hear the person on TS politely say "thanx for the tags Fubar". LMAO!!

Re: Dog Tags

True enough Fubar.

Hoewever, even on TG servers communication and awareness is rarely perfect.

On our servers, most of our TG squads will not have a sniper positioned, so it's unlikely that other squad members would be guarding him. I would typically use this move if I had infiltrated a chaotic location with scattered opponents.

More likely is that a squad member has taken up temporary position somewhere that he thinks he has cover. Your squad may know that you're in the vicinity, but I'd wager that it would take at least 5 seconds for even a good squad to react and find your position after you reported a knife.

That 5 seconds would give a good player more than enough time to reposition and move on.

Re: Dog Tags

Very true, and if I get knifed and my squad is that far way....then I deserve to die. I spoke those words just last night: "SL Down!......um, I am too far away....DANM!". But I am just trying to point out that good communication will overcome that. If your squad is set up with two support and they have IDS then as they approach they will see where you go. If the game mechanics made you silent upon death, knifing would be a great way to kill and be stealthy. Besides......Spanky watch my a$$. LOL

Re: Dog Tags

223 unique dogtags for me. I have had the game since November of '06 and played it about 1 month solid then it got old to me. I stopped playing completely for a whole year exactly cause it got old to me and I was playing PR a lot. Giving it another break and will pick it up again shortly. Got back into PR once more.

Re: Dog Tags

I dont think how many enemies you have killed with your Dogtagger Dagger is really important. Its how many times you have accidentally knifed a teammate. I have five or six of these from that annoying disappearing name glitch.

But i have to say, nothing is more exciting than knifing a guy that has killed you repeatedly, teammate or otherwise....
