Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
Ok, a small handful of you know me. Most do not as I've been inactive due to internet issues.
Anyway, now that I'm back I'm wondering...what happened to the NS maps? When I left, our Titan Server was converted to an NS server. I return to find...we have two conquest servers.... ![]() ((A bit of a rant coming up...I apologize before hand)) I'm all for the original conquest maps...but I can't be the only person who is getting a bit tired of Belgrade, "Carebear" Landing, Camp Gibby and the like. Any possibility of getting some map changes every once in a while? We don't have to do it all the time..but you know..maybe one weekend a month we do NS or something? |

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
Welcome back, it has been a long time.
The second server does not seed well and sits idle 99.9% of the time, regardless of what maps, modes, or mode it is in. We've left it as Northern Strike, it sits idle, as Titan, it sits idle, as armor centric maps, idle, as infantry only maps, idle, 32 players, idle, 16 players, idle.. notice a trend? If anyone has suggestions for what they'd like to see, we're open to ideas. |

Put all the maps in rotation.

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
I believe that another problem would be the actual problems with the main server. right now with the second server being conquest, we can usually jump over if there are problmes on server 1. Also, check the post about Frosty Friday, I believe that Fridays are still NS fridays on the second server....I may be wrong.

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
I think this is the main reason I never bought NS. No one ever plays it.

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
Correction, the second server will be Titan this week, at least.

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
I got NS because I tested it. When I saw the maps I immediately thought of the tactical situations one could find themselves in when playing on the TG server. I am actually quite shocked that nobody liked it. A change from the norm...I guess.
And...yes Lorax I know all about the second server never seeding. I have spent countless hours there myself when it was Titan trying to get it seeded. |

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
I like NS. Hell, I still want to get a roadkill with a Goliath. My life will feel incomplete without it.

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
The Northern Strike maps will continue to find their way into the rotation on a limited basis. We have tried several different ways to include the booster pack, but it simply does not garner enough interest within the community to maintain a dedicated server. Adding it to the Conquest server is not really an option, since not everyone has Northern Strike and doing so has proved to cause massive fluxes in the player base. The weekly Frosty Friday sessions were successful in maintaining some interest in the booster pack, however, so we plan to incorporate this in a revamped schedule of events.
For example, we have discussed rotating between Titan and Northern Strike on Fridays. |

Re: Sooo...whatever happened to NS?
Here is a complete list of official maps currently available for BF2142
There are five infantry centric maps:
There are five armor centric maps:
Three Northern Strike (Assault Lines) maps:
And one Assault Lines map included with the 1.4 patch
All five infantry maps are included in the TG rotation exactly once. At any given time there is one armor map in the rotation. Northern Strike requires an additional purchase which some people have not made and Highway Tampa was giving us problems and was believed to be a factor in the sheer number of crashes we were experiencing while it was included in the rotation. Minsk is out of the question for any normal rotation. It will, on extremely rare occasions, be loaded by an admin on a whim, but due to the almost impossible to breach bottleneck, well, it just doesn't work. That leaves four other armor maps to enter into the rotation. Say we added an armor map between each infantry map, we'd come up with a rotation similar to this one:
While it looks good on paper (virtual or otherwise), it really doesn't work. As each armor map loads, we'll loose a percentage of people who do not enjoy armor maps. This might seem like a good thing since it allows others to join the server when they couldn't before since it was full, but it also hurts teamwork and balance. Think about it, some of the best rounds you've ever had, teamwork wise, are typically those were the server has not crashed for a number of rounds allowing both teams to gel and go back and forth with each other, often resulting in win with only double or single digit tickets left on the board. We did toss in a second armor map in the rotation, but it had the effect described above. What we can do is alter the order in which the maps load and at which point the armor map hits. We're also working on integrating Titan maps on scheduled nights and possibly Northern Strike. Again, and I'm not being sarcastic when I say this, we are open to suggestions. If you have an idea, pitch it to us in public or private via the Contact an Admin forum and we'll work with you if that's what you want, or we'll take it and run with it. |
