I agree with everything you said except this one bit...

As SL I always command from the rear. I like to have strategic overlook, and I like to gather my squad to me in a safe space if things go badly for them.

Crux and Reaper in the 3rd like to command from the front. They have the skills to mow down their enemy WHILE giving commands that make sense, and they know they can count on their squad to pull their weight and get them going again. Frequently my job as a medic in their squad is to keep my head down, because I know everyone else has me covered while I rush to put the SL back on his feet.

Well, I should have said "If I'm commanding a squad, I'm in the rear, protecting the spawn point. Other squad leaders might be up and in front."

But then again, I never SL. I'm terrible at it.

Knife "Duels" take too damn long. I bust out the knife if I'm between clips and have to engage someone, or have to do the spec ops thing and take out someone silently while getting somewhere.

This is typically the best way to deal with a knife "duelist."

I feel like Indiana Jones in this scene every time someone pulls a knife on me from a distance or more than 5m. They feel like the guy in the black.

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

Normally if i see a guy pull a knife on me on any server, they will get their face rearranged with a bullet hail.

On the other hand, on those rare occations where I run out of rifle ammo, pistol ammo, grenades, and RDX and APM's, and there is no support guy in sight; then yes I will use a knife because it is the only weapon avalible to me.

My other knife kills come from sneaking around with active camo to the objective, if they don't see me, fine then they are fools and I then get a nice trophy dogtag.

Just because it is a titanium alloy blade doesn't mean it can block the inevitable hail of bullets and shotgun shells that will be flying your way. And your avatar is human weighed down by nearly 40 lbs of equipment, not Neo. Trying to dodge the bullets would be a bad idea too.

You just gave me a SUPER idea, but I'd need a Garry's Mod for 2142 in order to make it a reality. XD

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

If I am in a squad and the SL pulls a knife and gets involved in a knife dual I will shoot at the enemy with care not to hit my SL every time (or throw a gernade- that ends the dual right away when they run) if you engage in a dual you did not engage in a contract with the rest of the server that the the enemy is yours alone and the rest of the game needs to wait for you to finish.

Roughly 60% of the time I go to knife someone I get killed myself, I would have killed 95%+ the people I tried to knife if I used a gun.

Roughly 80% of the time someone tried to knife me I kill them.

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

If I ever see a knife fight going on I just run in with a defib - it has a slightly longer reach than a knife and unlike bullets, when you pull the trigger you kill the enemy and leave your teammate unharmed to continue fighting.

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

Yeah, I often see TG guys using the defib as a makeshift knife. I remember pulling the knife out for a sniper when Vertomac zoomed right past me and defibbed the guy to death. :P

Although I did once teamkill someone with the defib. We were two medics on one guy. My aim was off, and waddya know, the... medical operation failed horribly. XD

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

Here's the kicker: in the commotion, I think I actually left him there!

Came in, TK the guy, try to revive him once, doesn't work, gunshots zoom past me, I rush for cover.

The poor sap didn't comment on that event... yet. XD

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

How do you TK someone with a defib? Are you sure it wasn't a stray grenade / guy got killed by something else? I'm pretty sure you can defib your team-mates until you're blue in the face and they still won't die [unlike real life...]

Re: The Art of Honorable Knife Fighting

the game mechanics don't allow the defib to kill teammates, it is impossible

I'm so good with the defib, I have even revived myself.
