Yeah, this was on that Discovery show, Futureweapons a few months ago. Got to see it in real action in a lab test, it was pretty amazing. Be interesting to see if they make different versions for missile defense, as is being done with lasers.

Re: The Navy has a Rorsch!

The Phalanx is being replaced with Sea RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) that uses the Phalanx' radar and mount and an eleven shot launcher. Each Sea RAM will directly replace a Phalanx mount.
A lot of weapons work really well in the lab. Fielding is another matter. Prior to WW2 the Navy decided to replace the 50cal with a better weapon. The 1.1” (28mm), designed in 1929, deployed in 1931, field tested on Dec 7, 1941. It was found to be unreliable, prone to jamming and ineffective as an AA weapon. It was replaced with the 20mm Oerlikon and 40mm Bofors (early versions of both had been rejected). And the Ma Deuce (50cal), still around and kicking at 88.

http://gizmodo.com/351467/navy-rail-...es-at-5640-mph

2 vids of that fireing the second one has some sound.

From what I read rail guns have been around for 50+ years but they are not reasonable weapons yet because the rails erode way too fast and need replaceing every few shots.

I believe they also require an enormous amount of energy to fire, which makes them impractical until we can find a more efficient energy source for them.

...But railguns are still awesome!!! They make me happy.

All we need now is hover technology and tanks that are capable of bipedal motion.

Re: The Navy has a Rorsch!

Please. Seems like the civilian military is starting to catch up to the secret military.

Who needs a railgun when.. this exists:

"In addition, the TAW-50 is armed with micro-super-explosive
HyperDart missiles. These are just a little larger than
ordinary aircraft cannon ammunition, but travel at
hypersonic speed for up to three minutes, and have enormous
explosive capability. One HyperDart can blow apart a MiG
fighter anywhere within 20 feet of the HyperDart. The TAW-50
carries several hundred HyperDarts. "

You may want to do some research on electrogravitics. We already have highly developed "hover technology." Its based on high voltage high frequency polarity separation. Kind of like ion-wind on crack. The stuff you see in bf2142 is not only completely possible, but based on already in use technology.

Theres also a technology called magnetic pulsing, but I'm guessing thats just a flavor of electrogravitics.. since its all manipulation of the same forces.

Heres a good introduction: http://www.geocities.com/electrogravitics/eg1.html

Re: The Navy has a Rorsch!

To quote from part 3.1 of the article linked in the previous post (emphasis added):

Quote:
In parts 1 & 2 of this paper, we developed a theory of the gravitational interaction that is fully consistent with widely accepted scientific principles. However, the true value of any scientific theory is measured by it's ability to guide engineering endeavors to a successful conclusion. In order to design a successful product, an engineer must have a firm grasp of underlying scientific principals that govern the operational process of the device. History is replete with examples where the inability to fully comprehend why some process or device worked, has resulted in poor functionality, malfunction, or worse, catastrophic failure. In part 3 of this paper, we shall examine two devices. Both devices are widely documented, and both exhibit anomalous gravitational behavior. Further, neither device has ever fulfilled the promise of it's invention. It is the authors opinion this failure was due to a flawed understanding of the scientific principals that govern operation of these devices.
So many words, but so little tangible result.

Redirecting back to the article. Wow! The Navy has a Rorsch!

The tangible results is in orbit above your head right now and in various subterranean complexes throughout this country (and others). Further tangible results will be funded by your continued prompt payments to the IRS.
