Re: Advice from the Experts: You're talking to someone completely green to 2142...

Here's another one:

Never, under any circumstances, get out of an armored vehicle you're driving solo. That means anything that isn't a Jeep. Even if your doom is immiment, you are better off dying in it than leaving it at the hands of the enemy. If you really, really have no choice but to abandon your vehicle, demolish it.

If you are not the drive of a vehicle and you arrive at a flag, step out. You don't cap flags in vehicles unless you are the driver.

When enemies just start dropping in like that song by the Weather Girls, there's a beacon near by. Get rid of it!

It always cracks me up when I see a sniper running in to cap a flag solo.

If you are Recon in a Titan core, despite being excited to blow the thing, please check to see that at least one medic is BEHIND the shielding. You'll do more damage to your team by wiping out the entire team in the core room than good.

Go to your options, turn "Sound FX" all the way up, and "Music" most of the way down. It will save our butt in tons of situations, and you will usually be able to kill that knifer who almost snuck up on you.

Re: Advice from the Experts: You're talking to someone completely green to 2142...

If You kill Crux remember to count to 2 then throw a grenade on his corpse then count to 4 and do it again. It's 1-5 free kills.

Move stop crouch and then look to see what is around you from behind cover, give it a couple seconds, if you see nothing sprint to your next cover.

Always hit a tank in the back with AT weapons, generally they are 1 hit kills.

Double hitting jump brings out your chute.

Right clicking when in an APC and your anything but seat 1-2 pods you out, a type of eject seat.

Only the rockets in a walker will hurt armor (tanks, other walkers apc's etc).

Listen for your teams "GERNADE OUT" message and move from where they are throwing or don’t go there.

If someone calls "GERNADES ON THE FLAG" play along throw a grenade there’s likely too many on the flag to fight straight up.

If you see a squad on a flag or in a tight space throw a grenade you don’t get a rebate if you finish with them. If there’s a lot there call it out on VoIP so you can have a few grenades there to get them all.

If you hear a hissing sound MOVE that is the sound made by a primed grenade.

If your standing there and you hear the sound of metal sliding on metal move someone is trying to take your tags.

Unless your SL said other wise always spawn on and follow your SW. That means that you wait at the start to spawn in and then only spawn in on the green dot.

If you take a flag and your SL places a beacon don’t spawn in on the beacon use the flag, only use the beacon if the flag drops and wait for the SL to call everyone in, he may want to wait a little bit while the defenders disperse.

Never let your squad leader run first through an area, he is way more important because others can spawn off of him.

the 2 unlocks you need for:
--(in order of need)--
Assault - Deliberator & rockets
Engineer - motion mines, plium
Support - IDS (infantry scanner) & sentry gun (emp grenades generally considered better but much harder to use)
Recon - anti-personnel mines & RDX

The deliberator and rockets are the weapons you will use 80%+ of the time when in a TG squad, after you have those you would likely want to get the motion mines they are very powerful deterrent. After you have the motion mines you can get your IDS and sentry gun usually emp grenades are the preferred weapon by squad leaders but the thing is that it is real hard to set up a emp lock and it will usually lead to your death, I have only done it 2-3 times. Also you should get the sprint and grenade unlocks some where in there.

Until you have the bolded items don’t offer to play any kit for your SL he will presume you have the listed unlocks if you volunteer to play a kit and leave your squad open to the enemy.

If you see a squad that is “Learn TG” or similar, join it and pay attention.

Don’t form squads if you don’t know what your doing your squad is looking to you for what to do if you don’t provide a solid squad focus your team will not be effective.

The starting time of a match is to set up the kits and strats your going to use. Wait for your SL to ask for someone to use a kit if you can fill it then offer if not then your likely assault with rockets and revives.

Assault is the default kit you play, if your SL calls for 1 eng, 1 support and 4 assault don’t start calling assault in VoIP let the 2 that will take the other kits call there’s.

If your in a squad and the SL calls a kit you have the unlocks for and no one is taking the kits the SL wants step up and take one, some of them suck but we all need to take one for the team now and then.

No team killing!

No Artillery in the UCB (UCB = Un Cap-able Base)

No Attacking into the UCB though you can fire back at an enemy that is engaging you from inside it try not to, if you shoot the wrong guy you can get warned/kicked for attacking in to UCB.

Don’t enter a UCB unless you’re a recon with RDX and you intend to destroy there assets, DON’T put any AMP’s or RDX out to destroy there vehicles or men, your ONLY there to destroy assets. You can kill anyone that is in your way.

Push and hold Q to bring up the message rose push and hold T to bring up the command rose. While you have Q pushed and you’re over the “spotted” button roll your mouse scroll wheel to get up what you spotted. If you can see the enemy you don’t need to it will automatically put in what you see. Only important if you see some armor or a FAV generally as a straight spotted lets people know what is there.

Push and hold T to get up the command rose it has things some important things in it.

Don’t run and shoot you become a LOT less accurate

Do your job! If you’re a medic revive and heal your squad mates, if you’re an engineer and you see a damaged walker fix it. If your squad stops and is throwing out grenades or rockets etc pop and drop a supply kit. On your map anyone that is surrounded by a red ring needs supply or healing.

I thought the rule in the enemy's UCB was you can kill anyone repairing or shooting at you, not if they just happen to be in your way.

Is the deliberator the weapon that makes the enemy sit there trying to decide whether or not to shoot you?

Re: Advice from the Experts: You're talking to someone completely green to 2142...

If you are in a hostile UCB, you may engage anyone that engages you AND/OR anyone attempting to repair assets.

*Edit*
Let me clarify something, the only people allowed in a hostile UCB are people tasked with asset destruction or someone going in to take out someone or something that is engaging targets from within the UCB (sniper, tank, etc). You may not stroll into a hostile UCB just to stir things up.

woops, Lorax74 cleared it up. I meant to say you can not just go in and wholesale slaughter everyone there.

most games they sit there unharmed because it can lead to problems and if they are destroyed it does not take long to fix.

Re: Advice from the Experts: You're talking to someone completely green to 2142...

Vortex's advice to newcomers to the game:

1) VoIP, VoIP, VoIP. VoIP is your friend, your ally, and will let you make friends with anyone you squad with. Microphones are cheap these days, and you'll discover it makes a whole world of difference. As a SL, I like having people on VoIP because it improves intra-squad communications.

2) If your SL tells you to do something, do it! Sometimes your SL will be wrong, but most of the time he's got a battle plan in mind and needs you to do your part to make it work.

3) Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone, even Crux and Reaper, started out brand new to this game and made mistakes. (Well, Reaper I wonder about...) Making a mistake means that you can learn from it and improve as a result of it.

4) Never be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure of something (especially about joining TG ) Veteran members of your squad or your squad leader will answer your questions to the best of their ability. Once again, part of the learning process.

5) Most importantly: Have fun! At the end of the day, it's only a game! Don't be afraid to crack a joke or two while playing, or strike up some friendly banter during the lulls in fighting. Just make sure you're not doing it when your enemies are trying to swarm your position or your SL is trying to give orders.
