Calling all commanders!

That's right--it's time to take up the mantle and lead your team to victory!

For all the wonderful squad leaders we have here at TG who are willing to start up squads round after round, we have very few who will take it upon themselves to lead the entire team. Thus, I challenge every one of you to command one round in the next week of play. It doesn't matter if you've done it before or not--if you've played a map five or ten times, as most of us have, you know the trouble spots and you know where to send your people to achieve objectives. Use that knowledge, on a larger scale than you ever have before. Challenge yourself! Broaden your horizons! Pwn the n00bs with your orbital strikes! Make their sneaky recon runners tremble in fear of your sat scan and UAV!

For those who may be unfamiliar with the commander position and/or interface, please see this wonderful thread on commanding. It'll get you pointed in the right direction. Also, I plan on starting a few map-specific commander strategy discussions in the tactics & mission discussion forum here in the next few days. While my knowledge on the topic of strategy is nowhere near complete, I know we have some great minds for strategy out there who will have some great ideas.

Yeah, Azura got me three times last night while commanding for EU on Camp Gibby!

Good idea! I try to command at least once a week, even though I prefer Sl'ing. Especially when there is no commander. It is best to start out with the idea of commanding so you can have a plan.

It's easier than you'd think. I think arithea got the idea from last night when we went for about 5-6 rounds losing with decent CO (exception of Techwar). Then Arithea grabbed it and we won by two tickets

Well, that got me thinking about it. I mean, I don't know how many times I've spent four or five consecutive rounds complaining about the crappy CO--and never really done anything about it. I realized that last night during the last round of the map before Gibby and decided I was going to do something about it.

Also, let's keep in mind as we do this that the people commanding for us might be new to it and try to help them out in any way possible. Communicate, communicate, communicate!

That night on gibby was tough to command. A lot of the squads were throwing themselves into the meat grinder. If they would have stayed back and taken a little more cover I believe we would have won both gib rounds but they just kept pressing forward. A couple squads wouldn't comply with the orders and hold back which just kept burning us tickets.

Good post Ari, I usually try to split up being an SM, SL and Commander. I know I'm not the greatest commander but far from the worst either, just have to jump in the hot seat and do what you think is best. There's only one way to become better at commanding and that is to command.
