Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

Yes, I realize it's sort of OT for the 2142 forum, but....

I was going to take the day off of 2142 by doing a little BF2 for a change of scenery when I realized that we have the very tactical Project Reality mod for BF2 available. Do any of our 2142 guys play it?

Anyone up for raiding our BF2 brothers' PR server sometime?

The PR rounds are a little too long for me. I prefer POE2.

I can't play PR at the same time Aruncado does, which kills it for me. I also prefer POE, from what little I've played of it.

I have not reinstalled BF2 or any mods after the crash of '07 on my computer.

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

I've played PR once and enjoyed myself quite a bit. Don't expect to be constantly shooting at stuff, and get ready to sit at a flag in the middle of nowhere for 10 minutes + with nothing happening. I brought dinner with me, and that was definitely a great idea. It is MUCH slower paced.

Unfortunately, after playing it once, I seem to have screwed something up when trying to manually edit my tags for BF2, and now I crash to desktop whenever I load a map :[

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

I play PR a lot, and 2142 not so much. (I keep getting disconnected when joining the TG servers). I really would reccomend PR to anyone, but it is definitely not for everyone. It's not as slow-paced as ArmA or a Tom Clancy (Ghost Recon/Rainbow 6) game, but it can be a big shock for a new player. if you play PoE2 or FH2, then you'll be better prepared for it than a fresh 2142 player, as they are both slower paced than vBF2 or 2142. IF you do download it then make sure you download both the 'Core' and the 'Levels' and install them both (you don't have to have a previous version of PR)
Hop on over to the PR forums and ask some questions for more info, there's a lot of friendly people over there.

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

let me say a few words.

you either walk 12 miles and die or you drive 12 miles and die. you do this for 2 hours on one map.

that is all.

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

Every now and then I'll play. Its something I can't do often though, it'll drive you mad, I can't take the suspense and hectic fights. Plus, the long rounds really don't work when you don't have much time to play.

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

I've played 3 rounds, 2 were fun, 1 wasn't, but on the one that wasn't my squad leader had a very thick accent which wouldn't have been a big deal except that he also mumbled, which made it pretty tough to hear anything. Also, getting used to the controls and quirks is a little irritating (you have to spam LMB to use the med pack, you can only deploy AT mines when you're prone, etc). With a good SL though, I've had a lot of fun.

And so far as the time thing goes, I think we probably spend almost the same amount of time on each map, especially on the larger maps. We just play two rounds per map instead of one.

Re: Does anyone in our BF2142 community play PR?

Geez, you 2142 nerds sure do bash us PR nerds a lot!

To answer the OP's question, there are a lot of people who play PR. There are also a lot of PR players who play 2142. If anyone would like an introduction to PR, feel free to squad up with any of the guys in the 6th and we'll gladly show you the ropes. Yeah, the respawns are longer in PR than 2142 and you dont have rockets or walkers, but theres lots of other cool stuff. HUGE maps, gigantic team-slaughtering JDAM bombs, medics that actually have to work for a living, etc.

Also, as for what reap said, you only have to walk/drive the full distance of the map if your SL isnt smart enough to put down a rally point (PR equivalent of a spawn beacon). Same thing applies to 2142, but the maps are smaller.

Like I said, if anyone wants to come play, I highly recommend coming on one of the PR password nights (thursdays at 9EST, sundays at 3EST). Thats when you'll find the most TG members and good regulars to help you out if you need it. The things you'll need to play are BF2 patched to 1.41 and PR 0.7 (go to realitymod.com to grab the files). Hope to see more of you fellas out there and see what you can do without a cloaking device to get you behind enemy lines!
