I pretty much have most of the mess taken care of. I had to rip up the carpets in my office and the downstairs bedroom and replace them both. I also had to throw out a bunch of books that ended up drenched in the flood. I lost one of my Dell servers, but it wasn't actually in use so I'm not too terribly distraught over it. I also lost a couple very old HP NetServer LC's but once again, not a big loss.

There's still a lot of cleanup to do in the utility room. It seems most of the power tools made it out fine as they were all in their factory cases (all DeWalt stuff) and just floated on top of the water. The only tool that really did get wet was my tile (wet) saw, which is designed to get wet so no worries there.

No-go on the insurance though. It's considered a "flood" because it was due to rain and not a burst pipe and I don't have flood insurance so I'm pretty much left holding the bag. I guess its a good thing I was a contractor in a former life and can deal with the minor structural damage myself. Not a whole lot in material costs, just a bit of labor.

Good to hear things worked out Apophis! I know the storm you're talkin' about, it was pretty damn wet up here too, our student center got flooded and the streets were pretty nuts. I'm pretty surprised we didn't flood back home, we usually flood once a spring. Good luck with the repairs!

Wow, I had this happen to me about a year and a half ago and my basement has never been the same since. Good Luck Apo.

Yes, I had the same a few years back. We lost many family pictures, old home videos dating back to the 1950s (no sound, just motion), many books, furniture, and a few computers (biggest loss was an old ALR quad 4 that rocked for its age). To add to the problem, when the water level finally receded (french drains), there was enough moisture left to cause problems with mold. The only good thing about the whole thing, we found out we had an alarmingly high level of Radon.

See Apophis, if you had just listened to your throngs of devoted minions who told you to "forget the house, buy the super-secret evil lair inside and inactive volcano on a remote island in the south pacific", you wouldnt have had the flooded basement! Plus, you would have had really cool toys, like sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads.

Glad to hear that you've got the mess contained and cleanup going well though! Just dont hire JMJ's (ex)neighbor to assist with any repairs.

/runs back to his own little corner of the forums.
