Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
Why I'm here:
- the teamwork
- the maturity
- the laughs
- the variety
- the skills
Not why I'm here:
- to grab the limelight
- to play at the expense of other's experience
- to win at all costs
- to fit in
- to hack/sploit/grief/be-a-complete-berk
This is one of the very few places I've found where I can play a game of 2142 with people who are out to have as much fun as I am and that I constantly learn from at the same time. What's not to love?
My experience isn't always perfect. My contribution to the community isn't always 100%. It is however, a really great place to relax and play a game.

It's British slang. I've a number of brit friends and their speech has worn off on me.
Here's a definition taken from this site.
berk: Noun. An idiot, objectionable person. Derived from the rhyming slang Berkshire Hunt or Berkeley Hunt, meaning 'c***'. Normally Berkshire and Berkeley would be pronounced Barkshire and Barkeley. This expression is generally accepted as inoffensive despite its source. Also 'burk'.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
TG to me doesn't mean anything about how good you, or how elite you are in the game. It doesnt matter if you score an average of 10 points a game or 75 points a game. TG is a community of players who enjoy playing together because it adds more fun to the game. Wearing the tags to me means that I'm part of this awesome community, and that fully understand, accept, and endorse all of what we stand for. I'm no where near the best player out there, but this community has accepted me, because I enjoy to play. To thats what this community is about, the enjoyment of a game, with people from all around the world. Every chance I get I squad up with TG, not because I think it will give me a higher score, but because I know that I'm guaranteed to have fun, and hear some bad jokes in the process.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
I started my FPS gaming with the game Planetside. I played for some time there and developed my own tactics (my own being one who never played an FPS before), going from clan to clan. Most of them sucked and no one really worked together. I became a solo fighter until I met up with this clan called "The Legions of Fire". I was a sniper in the game and would sit perched up taking shots at the hostiles in front of them, allowing them to gain entry into the bases with ease, then switch kits and head into the base with them. They liked how I functioned even though I wasn't on comms with them and invited me into their clan. Personally I loved how they invited me because of the way I played, not just to add another man to the roster. We played through Battlefield 2 but they never really went into 2142.
After playing 2142 for a long time and checking out all the different clans that were around I was skeptical about joining another one. Until I found the TG server. It seriously makes all the other servers look like child's play. I liked the functionality of the server and how the TG players stuck together, or lead squads of non TG players. So after a while I decided to check out the forums here and join up. I wasn't asked or invited but the level of familiararity between the players and teamwork was a good enough invite. At first I didn't put the tags on, it took me a couple days, but I am glad I did. People seem to look up to you, they look to the TG tags for leadership and support. It's a comfortable feeling knowing people believe you can make a difference, even if it is just a game.
So for me wearing the TG tag is an honor. One that will never be found in another family. I'm glad to be here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

At least you got the most important one in there.
On the subject of countries I also like TG for the variety of culture and nationality. although predominantely North Americans there are also a lot of european players and obviously we are so much better. I kid, I kid (I'm not racist I swear) .

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
I know I am guilty of thread necromancy yet again, but...
What do the TG tags mean to me? A great many things.
Allow me to tell you a short anecdote. When I was looking around in my server list, I happened upon the TG server. Keep in mind that at this time I was the most obstinate lone wolf sniper that has ever set foot on a rooftop. And I was good at it. Then, to my shock, I was booted from the server in 90 secs. "What?" I thought to myself. Fine, I'll join a squad, then. I looked at the available squads. A generic squad with one opening was there, led by a guy called INSUNABULA. Well, I thought "That's a pretty n00bish sounding name, I'll probably be able to go off and snipe without having to be kicked or annoyed by the SL". Well, it turns out I was DEAD WRONG. And you know what? I had, for the first time, the most fun EVER. It was like drugs, without the negative side effects. I was high on TEAMWORK. And by the end of the day, I was exhausted, but happy at my awesome discovery. I have never played the same crappy way since, and the very next day, I waltzed on over here, joined, and donned those TG tags. I have never taken them off since.
So what exactly do those tags mean to me? First and foremost, they signify that I am a member of a community of gamers who value intelligence and maturity, something utterly lacking in other servers. Secondly, they signify that I am ready to perform, without question or hesitation, the orders of my superior officers. My tags let me suspend disbelief and plunge myself into the simulation of warfare in 2142 AD. Lastly, they are a badge of pride and honor, showing others that I respect and follow the TG way.
Thanks for listening.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
Welcome to TG LordKelvin, appreciate your reviving this post. We have a lot of new TG people and this is a good read. The story you just told is the same for many here at TG, once you have a taste of what is here, you don't want to go anywhere else.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
Well, after my buddy Eqrr dragged me off to buy BF2142 I was lost. The gameplay itself was so complicated compared to my native Halo. So one evening when we were talking on skype he said, "(DrBeat), you have got to get in this game, it's called TG!" So I joined and the TG teamwork began.
For me, wearing the TG tags fills me with honor. TG is a community, it doesn't mean I'm the best player (I have much to learn and I hope I can do it from the TG members far better then me) or the person with the gold star at the end of the round. People look to the tagged members for leadership and support. And I fully intend to provide that.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
To me, TG is a community that is based around joining squads and helping out their teammates for the greater good. Many players don't understand that or don't do that. This lack of teamwork loses games. Who cares if you are great as a lone wolf if the rest of your team is dying? A few TG people can make a game that is going poorly into a game that is more balanced and raise morale of their team. I remember when I was on a DIG server and one of my teammates asked why we are losing. I joined TG because of the teamwork and to contribute to it.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
This is'nt exhaustive :
The game:
For me TG is to make it more realistic, what is not. The game is a game On the server TG, the game is a game realistic (to some extent of course).
Communication:
Communication is one of the strengths of TG. It is through this medium that transmits knowledge!
Audience:
Here, there are people 13 years as there are 40. What TG succeed in bringing together a wide audience fascinates me.
Respect:
Yes sometimes some of us are shocked because everyone is human. The most beautiful is to see how quickly things come back to reality. There is always someone to stop the slippage in the respect.
The community :
take a look at the others post on this thread.... everything is there !
And we end with a : " TG on my guts ! "

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
I'd been playing 2142 since the day it was released then, just over a year ago, I stumbled into the TG accidentally. I found myself in a squad led by Damonte. In that one round I learned more than I had in all of the rounds I'd played before. I was hooked. I really wanted to absorb all I could from guys like Damonte, Anospa, Crux, Experiment, Lyra, Silver, and so many others, so I joined and hopped into TG squads every chance I got.
I've been lurking around here for a while now, and I feel the same way. Every time I squad up with TGers I feel like I learn something about how to play better.

Re: What does it mean to you to wear the |TG| tag?
I first discovered TG servers a few years ago playing BF2. I knew that if I ever had to find another community, TG would be a place to try out. I came from another community and understood what it cost in time and money to run game servers, let alone what TG must be spending and figured I would support my new "home". Fast forward to February and the 2142 servers when I found myself creating a forum account and becoming a supporting member. Once I began reading the SOPs and digging into some of the threads, found out about "Learn TG" squads, and actually had IHS members willingly give away spots in squads and gunships with their buddies, so I, some random new guy nobody knew, could not only learn what it meant to be in a TG squad, but could learn how to use the weapons in the gunship, I was floored.
Like others it took me a while to actually put on the tags, and when I did it was only after I knew that I would help out others as much I was helped when I first showed up. So, what do the tags mean to me? They mean that I will not only uphold the rules and regs of the servers, help police them, etc, but that I will help out players new to TG, work with them to teach them how we play at TG, showing others that it can be a lot more fun to lose as a team than win by yourself.
