So I'm installing now...

Just picked this up the other day from a friend who doesn't play it anymore. So who's around from the BF2 days? Also which game type do most people play? I read that there are 2 different servers w/ 2 game types.

Any patches/mods I need for maps etc since release? Didn't see any when I went searching for stickies in the forums...

The Titan game mode focuses on the assault of a massive air ship called a Titan. The ground troops must capture missile silos instead of flags. The silos will count down from I think something like 1 minute 45 seconds and then fire a missile at the Titan; first damaging its shields and then its hull once the missiles break through. You can assault the titan directly by boarding it after the shields are down.

In the BF2142 FAQ sticky thread there are monitor pictures of the two servers which will give you the number of players in each server so that you can make your decision before hand. Or you can just add both to your favorites list and choose on the fly. :-D

As for the patches, the latest is 1.4. If you bought the Deluxe Version, there's no need to patch it, as it comes fully patched. If you bought the normal version, you can find the latest patch in various places. I'd link you directly, but as I've not posted 15 times or more, I cannot. Just type in "bf2142 1.4 download" in to Google and you'll find it easily.

For the most part, both of the TacticalGamer servers only run Conquest, which is the standard tickets + flags mode. I say "both" but in reality, there's only one server that's active at any given time. And Xovak is correct, the most recent patch is 1.4

After searching through my Subscription folder archives, I found what I was looking for...

Behold

The 1.4 patch + the genius of Rage.

The adventurous fool I am I jumped into a huge 64 player low-FPS titan game when I first got the game. Needless to say I was scared crapless and I had no idea what the hell was going on. I doubt you'll have that problem as you will already be familiar with BFx.

Re: So I'm installing now...

What didn't you like about BF2? Because both use pretty much the same engine and they're pretty similar so...

Re: So I'm installing now...

I dunno, I never really gave it much of a shot. I was used to the immersion that CoD4 gives and I felt like an insignificant speck on BF2.

GAH! Will never let me connect to the master server to create an account.

What a waste of 30 bucks.

Re: So I'm installing now...

BF2142 is also quite a big game compared to CoD4, but didn't you enjoy the VoIP and squad system? I think that's one of the main things that makes BF2142 a great game. Being on TS with a whole team like in CoD4 can be a little awkward, but operating in a squad gives much more focus on specific goals and a better sense of being a real unit. And also, being part of a squad you'll feel like a much bigger speck . Your squad is like an attachment to you, you're always sticking together, so you feel like you are much more significant in the grand scheme of things, and on a conquest game, it's just as immersive and hectic as CoD4.

Shame about that tech problem though, post in the technical problems forums if you're interested in trying the game out. Those guys know a lot, and I suggesting starting a thread in the general discussions for some more advice. I'm not on these forums as much as I used to be, and I'm going cold turkey with the game until about Summer, so they'll probably give you better answers than me.
