Vehicle assets
I want to address a concern that hasn't really been address for some time but has caused some questions and "problems" in the past.
While SOP's are not server rules, they do imply teamwork. Our SOP on locking & naming squads does stand for teamwork and using assets squads. Ultimitely, vehicles are first come and first serve on our server. If someone is waiting for a vehicle by it's spawnpoint, yeild the vehicle to them or request them to allow you to use it. But you may not force another player to step asside becasue you have a locked named asset squad.
There are a few things that do help out asset squads use their assets. A CO my step in and request all squads to hold a asset for another squad. At this point it is a violation of teamwork and ignoring orders to use another squads asset. It's responsibility of your Squad Leader to give you that information if your CO gives out that order. The CO should make a attempt to give this order via global team chat. Sometimes this can't be done while under COMMs or if his text is spammed off by combat spam. Again this is the responsibility of your Squad Leader to inform you of CO orders.
If your using an asset that is "claimed" by an asset squad, you must clear it with your Squad Leader. At his direction you may take a asset from another squad. Remember: A CO's order superceds your SL's order.
Sometimes we have Squad Leaders that are not responsive via VOIP or chat. Sometimes grossly neglecting thier duties of Squad Leaders. If a SL is ignoing thier duty, They should be reported just like any other violation. Sometimes your stuck, If you feel overall that your team can use you in that asset better then the asset squad. You make take the asset without orders if there are no way to get orders.
My last 3 paragraphs are all based on better of teamwork. When you take a vehicle from a asset squad, your making team members sit idle. No one likes to wait around for you to get killed. This goes for all types of assets. If your team has an "ASSETS" squad, stay out of the enemy UCB and let that squad handle the job. If there's a APC squad, you can hitch a ride but leave the mortor open for his squad mate.
Anyone has the right to make a asset squad (Supporting and non-supporting members alike). At the start of a round if that asset is already claimed, anyone my request to join that squad. The SL should invite them and do one of 2 things. Allow them to play with the squad and rotate seats, or inform them that the squad cannot use another player and request them to join another squad. But remember that player has a right just like you and is most cases they should be allowed to use the asset while with your squad.
A full squad in a gunship doesn't make sense and the entire squad is usally lacking teamwork by allowing this. What are the other 4 people doing? They are either going to start wandering around without SL guidance or wait idle while they can be better helping thier team elseware in a effective squad. Yes some maps have 2 gunships and can take 4 people, What I'm asking is make sure your teams resources are where they should be and don't allow lonewolfing of your squadmates. This goes for all assets, there shouldn't be 5 people in a tank squad, but on the other hand it might be a infantry squad that wants to use a tank on a map and move with it. It's all playing your teamwork in the right way. Be mindfull on the battlefield and you might win some more
The TG way:
Asset squad leaders should always make a attempt to recruit reoccuring asset takers and tell them about the the teamwork of assets and even allow them to use the asset if they fully insist of them using the asset if they wish not to play with thier squad. Real teamwork comes from those that pass on ways of better teamwork and allowing newer players to play with vetern drivers.
Lastly, I'm not going to awnser a case by case questions about asset squads here. You make direct PM's to me or use the Ask a Admin forum for any such questions to clairify any rules.

Re: Vehicle assets
I have made a habit of yelling in squad chat "WE HAVE A <VEHICLE> SQUAD, PLEASE LEAVE THE <VEHICLE> TO THEM!" whenever I see a locked vehicle squad, regardless of whose in it. As far as reporting SL's when they don't listen... I shoulda done that a few nights ago. What really grinds me is when one man squads lone wolf. I try to stick them close to another full squad and inform them of it, but ugh if they dont listen 95% of the time.
Back to the vehicles though, I know it is just courtesy to leave the vehicle to the locked vehicle squad, but it does set a nice precedent to have it be theirs. Regulars recognize if they want an asset they can make a locked squad of their own for it (Even non TG regulars). Gunship locked squads almost never... ever... get priority and that imho is the most important locked squad to have. You get a veteran crew in the air and they can rain havok, you get a nub crew up there and you are just giving the enemy points.
Its like driving a car, everyone thinks they are above average.

True that, but everyone has a right to learn to. Yes everyday there is less and less new people buy 2142 and as more time we all become veterns. Lorax told me last night that he rocked the walker a year ago and now completely lacks skill with the walk from no use of it. But he wants to relearn it, Of course we are going to let him even if it hurts the team. Why? Well everyone has the right to it, learn it, and have fun with it. Just because someone is better then you at a asset, doesn't give priority them of it. This is where maturity comes in. Are you going to use the asset to learn or help your squad, or are you going to goof off in it and not care about our SOP. The later happens more often then that other.
Going back to the TG way. Yeah, every admin here is going to preach on about teamwork this and teamwork that. But if your not having fun either, There's a problem here and it needs to be addressed. Every member here also has the right to have fun while playing our TG games.

Re: Vehicle assets
The whole thing boils down to common courtesy, not just on TG but on every server. Making a gunship squad doesn't necessarily give you ownership over every gunship on the map, while at the same time, "stealing" a gunship from a specialized squad is a good way for them to fume over you.
If someone wants to use the vehicle too, then all he needs to do is ask permission from the specialized squad - either to have it for one run, or use it next round, whatever. If the squad in question isn't composed of a bunch of childish clan admins, then I'm pretty sure they'll work something out with the guy.

I rocked the walker yo! Now I'm going to have to step on DaBrit the next time I get in the walker. Of course, when I do that I'll probably also introduce him to the two ton teabag.

But on that note, we 3rd often lock down assets and need to be aware that others are entitled to use these assets. We are role models to this community and need to make sure we are doing everything we can to show how incidents with assets squads should be handled.

Re: Vehicle assets
On a bit of a side note, if someone else does have a piece of armor, even if you were wanting to use it yourself, please have the maturity to let them have it without doing childish things (e.g. standing underneath the walker and shooting at the vents to get the driver to hop out). I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I had this happen to me just the other night on the main server and was not impressed. My first reaction was, "Where'd that guy come from? I don't have any enemies on my minimap," as I performed Lorax's "two ton teabag"--and subsequently was punished for a teamkill. Lesson: If the person in the armor can't see you and you're damaging their vehicle, they're probably going to assume you're not friendly and will kill you first and sort it out later. This is, after all, war.
/rant. Thank you for listening.

Ah, yes, but you see, I don't think any IHS could handle more than one chick at a time. So it's probably a good thing you guys held out for Shinigami.

Re: Vehicle assets
The locked asset squads, and the rude attitudes that so often accompany them, come across to non- TG'ers as just plain nasty. I see it all the time, and it drives me nuts. I don't care what the rules are (and, please, don't remind me). I wince every time I see a TG'er say to some hapless would-be pilot, "Um, like, *excuse me*, that's OUR hovering gunship thingy. Now GET OUT!". Come on people.
Much of the rationale seems to be that the guys in locked asset squads are learning, or something like that. In BF2 if you wanted to learn how to fly a chopper you did it on your own time on an empty server. You never, ever subjected players on a public server to your chopper learning experiences. So how are these locked-for-educational-purposes asset squads contributing anything at all to the team? They aren't. The guys screwing around in floating gunships contribute nothing. They just die over and over again. They should practice in their own time on an empty server, then fly for real once they have it down pat.
What about the good hovercraft/gunship pilots? I've never seen one on a TG server. Maybe I just don't play enough. I dunno. What I do know, though, is that a good chopper pilot/gunner combo in BF2 would mop up the entire map. The score differential between those guys and the rest of the team would be shocking. That doesn't happen in 2142.
On the night in question a few days ago, some locked gunship squadders shouted at someone else for taking their gunship. In a subsequent Suez match they (well, I assume it was the same guys) were bragging about how they were going to show us how to dominate a map with a gunship. That was hilarious. For two games in a row, a bunch of guys on foot carrying light assault rifles killed vastly more enemies, captured vastly more flags, and had vastly more revives and heals than either of the two locked gunship squads.
So, you guys tell me, what were those smug hovercraft pilots contributing? Oh, they blew up a couple of tanks. Woohoo. Probably not as many as one of the good engineers on the team.

I have never witnessed someone create a "Gunship" squad for the purpose of learning. Now they may not be a pro or as good as someone else on the server, but they are trying.
As an avid Gunship Gunner I can say that it is frustrating when you plan on running a Gunship squad and are denied. It is easy to take on the "I could do this better" attitude, but that isn't very mature.
To think that we are going to restrict all play to the people who are the best at it is just silly. Are we going to require every player fill out a questionnaire before packing a specific kit? Perhaps we should make each player compete for a spot on the server? Maybe kick the 10 lowest scorers after each round. Maybe you would like to go head-to-head in every aspect of the game with the top scorers to prove that you deserve a spot here? Of course not. We all need to play the game TOGETHER and help in what ways we can and accept each other.
