That sort of thing is really, really helpful. On some servers, PB and important console messages are displayed in the center of one's screen in addition to the top-left corner as usual.

I was wondering if it was something that could be enabled on TG too.

I say this because it's very easy to miss a PB message when one's concentrated on the field of battle unless the message pops up in your face. Just yesterday, I received a warning, and the only reason I managed to comply with the instruction was because I happened to be glancing at the top-left of my screen at the time. Anywhere else, and I'd have been toast within the next few minutes I suppose...

I agree that the messaging system in 2142 sucks. I'm not sure about the message mod though, does it violate the terms required to keep your server ranked? Anyone know where this mod comes from?

What I hate worse is having a "YOUR TITAN SHIELD IS AT 50%" pop up RIGHT OVER my reticle while I'm trying to precision aim a bobbing gunship cannon.

I did a quick google search and didn't come up with any info about it, so anyone who can link me to the mod or instructions, please do so.

Is there any variable that can be set to have the message appear 100 pixels above the crosshair or something?

I think that message formats are defined on the Python server scripts.

An alternative to position is the font size.

Maybe it's better to leave the messages as they are positioned now (top left) and change the font size to something bigger, for the important messages.

Gloop, do a text search on all the files, for the word "font" or "size", on the folder where the Python scripts are.

I do not have access to my BF2142 private server right now (I am at work), I will check this back at home.

I wish I had a server to give as an example - unfortunately, I don't have any on hand at the moment. I do not get warned/kicked/banned often enough to remember those places.

Take note that the "center-message" display only pertains to PunkBuster and server console messages (so, the kind of things that you pop up on !w, !k, and !b commands). It won't display every single server message there. That space is only reserved to PunkBuster stuff that the admin specifically wants to send you.

That is kind of like saying, "The only reason I knew I was speeding is because I happened to glance at the side of the road." As a driver, or as a player on our server and a member of the community, you should make it a priority to know and adhere to our communities rules.

I agree that it can be hard to spot the messages in the corner but I also don't think that anyone honestly considers that little corner to be a legitimate source for information. The forums and the input of everyone in the community should hopefully be directing people on how they should be acting here.

Not possible - I haven't played BF2.

It'll be better to explain with a picture handy. I couldn't find any with an example of a PB message, so we'll work with this one:

I was looking at that screen shot and i was searching some of the clan tags. 2DEATH turned up a UK based clan @ http://www.2d-clan.co.uk/index2.php

They have a public and private BF2142 server, so an admin might be able to inquire there as to the Python scripts used.

That's just a similarity to work from though - kickvotes and mutiny votes always appear center-screen just like in the screenshot, so chances are 2DEATH would not know any more than the rest of us here.

I will keep the thread in mind, and as soon as I find a server that has this neat mod on, I'll ask one of their admins to send me a test warning so I can take a proper screenshot and really show what I mean.

EDIT: I just remembered DemonLeague has PB-in-center. I'll shoot them a message and ask about it.
