Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
I do like the one-round-per-map feature. When a map comes up that you don't particularly like, it's nice to know you don't have to suffer through 2 rounds of it. Sounds like a back-handed compliment, but it does make a difference.

Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
Many thanks go out to Mr. Gloop and the hordes of dedicated admins behind the scenes for this new changeover. I am very pleased with it. The mix of maps is refreshing and fun.
I've heard many people agreeing with those sentiments in TeamSpeak and I really hope the current format remains and persists. It's really made the game funner.

Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
The admin team is keen on hearing more feedback, negative and positive, on the map rotation. Our server is running a fairly unique setup right now for conquest servers. I don't really know of any other 2142 conquest server that runs with team balance off and single map roation. Logic would suggest that this is a setup for disaster. So far our player base has handled both changes with great maturity. We admins are very grateful for that - It makes our job all the easier.
So far things seems to be looking good. One concern we have is crashing. We have noticed a minor trend towards more crashing with the current map setup. We will keep an eye on it. So far crashes have happened on the larger armor maps. We will keep everyone in the loop on this. My personal opinion is that I really enjoy the single map rotation. playing both sides of a map is fair in the short run. But it can get tedious - even on maps I love. With the current single map rotation, winning and loosing is balanced out over the course of the map rotation. I find this makes for a much more enjoyable gaming session since I usually can only play for about an hour at any given time.

Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
I personally love the single map rotation idea. I'm not sure about the Autobalance idea, as I don't know exactly how that works (there's been plenty of times where I've gotten booted to the other team, and I don't know why). But as for the map rotation I find it really fun.
Maybe for the other server, TG could try doing pseudo-random game maps/types (with NS included)? For instance, one map is Suez Conquest, the next is Bridge of Remagen Titan, next is Tampa Assault Lines, then maybe Liberation of Libzberg(sp?) Assault Lines, etc. Maybe less of a focus on Conquest maps since the other server hosts those, and more of a focus on the map/types not played on the Conquest server? Then again, I can't see how the server would be seeded =(. |

Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
Since we have implemented this new map cycle we have come to realize that all server crashes are happening on "armor" maps. 6 crashes in the past 2 days - ALL on various armor maps.
Our first approach to this problem is to reduce the size of armor maps from 64 person to 32 person. 32 person armor maps are still fairly large maps by infantry standards. We hope this will eliminate the crashing completely. If they continue to crash with this frequency even at the lower size then we will need to weigh the benefit of running armor maps against the importance of server stability. We hope to keep armor maps in the rotation. *note we removed autobalance a week or two ago as that was accounting for MANY crashes. It was only once we removed autobalance that the pattern of crashing only on "armor" maps became evident. The ENTIRE admin team is working hard on bringing you the best possible server to play on. We thank you for you understanding while we undergo these changes. For reference the following maps are considered "armor" maps; Verdun Suez Sidi power plant Shuhia tiaba Minsk

Re: Main Server Map Schedule Changes:
Before we disabled autobalance, the server crashed on both infantry and vehicle maps seemingly at random. Disabling autobalance brought the crashes way, way down. A pattern developing with less noise in the signal makes sense.
