Re: Nice server guys

The speed is determined by the amount of and speed of your ram. this is how fast you can process the information, going from 1 to 2 gig mad a huge difference in loading and playing. Lag may also play a part, your connection speed. I load a map in abuot 2 sips of a beer.

Tested this about 2 weeks ago for personal reasons. Load times are mostly directed to HDD transfer times. So Raids, SATA and faster spins will help. The RAM speed will last help, but most impact falls into that raid.

Tested:
Sony: P4 3.6, 4gb of DDR 2700, x2 Raid 0 7200rpm 1.5gbs, 7600GT
vs
Custom1: Core2 E6550, 3gb DDR2 4200, x2 Raid 0 7200rpm 3.0gbs, 7600GT
vs
Custom2: AMD 4400, 3gb DDR 3200, x1 7200 EIDE HDD, 7600GT

Load times of Belgrade, First map load after starting BF2142.exe:

Sony: 10.1 seconds
Custom1: 8.4 seconds
Custom2: 18.5 seconds

Note the sony and custom1 are using different speed RAM sticks but Custom2 is using a relative mid-speed RAM to both systems and had the most freash load time.
