Thumbs up a few questions

Hey, i am planning on buying battlefield 2142 soon, but until then, im really excited so i was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions i had:

1. when reloading, does it take a clip (like BF2) or bullets (like call of duty 4).
2. is it quicker and easier to rank up than in BF2?
3. is it similar to BF2 (since i have it) where i wont be lost and feel like a total beginner again?
4. what are the best unlocks to get at first if you plan on being a squad member? (not leader)
5. what do you personally think is the best thing about BF2142?
6. are there a lot of maps (if so what are the few good ones that are fun to play on)?
7. titan mode?
8. will i be able to play on a Tactical Gamer server right away even when i first make my account?

Thanks so much to anyone who can answer a few (or all) of my questions. Hope to play with you guys soon.

Re: a few questions

1. Yeah it takes a clip like bf2.

2. Yes ranks come up faster ad you can get unlock fairly quickly.

3. Yes and no. Yes meaning the mechanic and conquest are similar. Conqeust is the same basically with new vehicles and maps. But the factions both offer simaler classes and weaponry and they're are only two. Classes are tweaked so that they're only 4. But depending on the types of unlocks you get, they can serve multiple purposeses.

For example: The recon kit starts out as a basic sniper, you can further upgrade the sniper to becoming the headshot king or go to the spec ops tree with cloaking and RDX (c4).

4. For squad member, i'd go with unlock the assault with medic and weapons boosts. Also look into investing on the passive upgrades such as grenades and better running abilities.

5. I like BF2142 since you can have many unlocks instead of the same kit over and over.

6. I like all the maps and yes they're a lot of them. GO visit the pubbies to see what you like.

7. Titan mode is what you need to experience yourself.

8. Once you get everything updated, go to the server select and do an advance search for Tactical and the server should pop up. It's necessary to join or make a squad and the people from hear are always a blast to play with. Also look in the forums stickies for a Radial.cbd fix snce that is a mjor source for crashes.

Re: a few questions

Okay cool thanks. But now you made me think of some others and i hope that is okay too.

1. what does Radial.cbd fix?
2. i think i might of confused you for question 4, i meant squadmember not squadleader. could you reanswer that?
3. what is the pubbies?
4. if i did start out on Tactical Gamer server, would i do pretty bad? (what i am asking is if you guys are what some people call "pros")

Re: a few questions

1. Radial fix a multitude of crashes and freezes that happen with BF2142 (dumb EA).

2. I meant to write Squad member so just replace it.

3. We refer to pubbies as people who are not regular to TG and do dumb stuff such as bunny hopping and using sniper rifle in cramped conditions and suicide tactics.

4. Of course not, we would help you adjust to the game, we aren't elitist.

Re: a few questions

thanks a lot for the help. so now i think im down to 1 last question, but i might have more in the future. =)

1. For the radial fix, i just download it to the same folder as i have saved BF2142 and it will fix anything that will go wrong? where can i find the program?

EDIT: Actually, if you dont mind. Im kind of confused about the classes. Do you think you might be able to tell me a place on the forum where i can find out about them, or do you think you could tell me about them and there roles? (like good unlocks for them and what they should do in a squad)

Thanks so much, your a huge help and i hope we can play together sometime.

It's kind of a catch-ass solution to various BF2142 glitches, namely the map loading process never actually finishing. Deleting Radial.cdb usually fixes the problem.

Unlocks remain the same. The defibrilator and the PK Rockets are among the first things a beginner soldier should have. Also consider the grenade pack and both sprint upgrades.

People who usually play on public servers and don't have any firm insight into the tactical way of playing the same - I.E.: The kind of people who will get out of cover and charge at a tank with a machine gun, or attempt to take on a full squad head-on when they could've simply remained hidden. The average pubbie's unpredictable and often self-destructive behavior is a source of worry in BF2142 as a whole.

TG's server takes some getting used to. You can't sneak behind the enemy lines very well and mistakes are quite unforgiving, because the frontline is extremely tight and well-defined. However, with a little bit of practice, you can develop techniques that will allow you to utterly murder pub servers. It is arguably the place to learn the solid foundations of squadplay.

Go into your C:/Program Files/EA/BF2142/ folder after you install the games and go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck Hide Protected System Files.

Then delete the Radial.cdb file in the folder. The next time you start bf2142, the program will remake a fresh version of it for you.

The Assault kit is both your rifleman, and your medic. On the battlefield the majority of the kits (on infantry maps) are Assault. You have the best general offense weapons, but also have to worry about keeping your own guys alive. A majority of people like the Baur for the Assault kit, most of the rest like the Voss, very few actually prefer the default over the Baur or Voss.

The Support kit is like your heavy gunner. You start off with a light machine gun, but you can unlock a shotgun. With this kit you become Mr. Situational Awareness. The Support kit is best used in a more defensive position, but only if there's enough Assault kits to keep everyone alive.

The Engineer kit is your anti-machinary kit. The default rockets do a decent job against vehicles, but the SAAW scares air vehicles, and the Pilum scares ground vehicles. Motion mines are very interesting and you'll want them ASAP if you decide to use Engineer alot. One thing you gotta learn is the weak spots of each individual vehicle. For tanks it's their back where the vents are. For Walkers it's the vents underneath. For FAVs just shoot/hit/win.

The Recon kit is a difficult to play the TG way. It's a kit that'll easily make you fall back into Halo-esque sniping glory..... however sniping is ALOT harder, and with the Defibs running around, pretty useless. When I pick up a sniper rifle, I use it more as binoculars with a gun attached. The Lambert isn't all that great of a gun either, but it's better in CQC than the sniper rifles. The Recon kit also is your explosion king. The RDX is basically a remote mine, and the APMs are claymores.

I hope that helps explain the 4 kits a bit, if you're still wondering something feel free to ask =).

You'd do just fine mate. Some of us are better than others but no one here is elitist or "professional." We're down to earth and we're willing to help you.
Join up a TG squad and use your mic: you can ask most anything there and people will be only too glad to help.

By the by -- post your soldier name here when you finally install Battlefield. I'd like to throw you a squad invite if I ever see you on the server

okay cool, i will. My name will 99% probably be Twiddilywink unless someone already has it (but i looked on the website and it says no one does). Also, if you guys dont mind, i was pondering some more questions after i got off last night, so i hope you guys don't mind (ant thanks for all of the help, ill try to be a good addition to the TG community):

1. What is the netbat system or w/e?
2. Ive watched some videos and i was wondering if the scopes like baur had like a dot in the middle, or is it all kindof guessing where it is?
3. Is the download massive like it was for BF2 complete collection?
4. Should i start out assult/medic when i make my soldier and just work of a foundation there? (what would be the key unlocks to get).

Thanks so much again and im glad some people are actually paying attention to my posts lol.

EDIT: 5. Does battlefield 2142 run good on duel cores that are vistas?
6. What is the first rank where you get an unlock?

Re: a few questions

1. the netbat system is basically integration between the squad where the game shares information automatically about enemy location and kit, the location is shown by a red diamond

as seen in the middle of the walker

2. all the assault weapons have a small red dot for your aim point when you are scoped

3. If you are downloading the game from EA's online service, I'm not sure how big it is but I do know that a lot of people have lots of trouble from the online content. I suggest buying 2142 Deluxe which includes Northern Strike from any large retail store.

4. Assault is the all around class and the defib is the first key unlock followed by rockets, but it does come down to you style of play. If you like big guns go for support, if you like killing armor go for engy, if you like shooting peoples face off from "range" go sniper. It all really depends on your play style, but I garuntee that at one point sooner or later a SL will ask you to come in assault and a defib is a must. also sprint unlocks are big to keeping up with the squad, grenades are also a great unlock to get.

5. I run Vista Home Premium and an Intel C2D E6750 and right now 2142 is held back by my graphics card not the OS or processor. I have a 7800GT but I am upgrading to a 8800GT

6. You get an unlock at every rank so Recruit -> Private you could get a defib, Staff Sargent Silver to Staff Sargent Gold you could unlock the Clark 15-B shotgun, the path you take in choosing you unlocks is nice and open but there is an order e.g. Defib -> Herzog -> Voss L-AR. so in order to get the voss you have to unlock the defib and herzog first.

hope that helps

Re: a few questions

1. It's a system in which people who are in the same squad have people who are able to detect infantry or vehicles. Let say you have a enjineer in your squad who has the upgrade fro net bat. Everyone in the squad see a red diamond highlighting nearby enemy vehicles and showing their health. For assault, the nearby infantry are highlighted and show their kits and health.

2. Yes some weapons have a way of showing where they're gonna hit thru iron sights or something on the hud.

3. I bought retail so not sure.

4. Your personal preference though i recommend assault kit for stuff like the defibs and advance medic pack. Also invest in passive abilties such as grenades and running abilities.

5. Not a tech

6. Can't remember.

Re: a few questions

1) Netbat is a system where soldiers can transmit information to other squadmembers by looking at an enemy. For instance, if I, as an assault medic, look at an enemy for a few seconds, he'll get a diamond around him and his kit insignia will appear above him. Everyone in my squad will see the diamond and his kit. The kit sign is a special ability of the assault's helmet, each class gets a different helmet effect.

2) Yes, there is a red dot for each scope.

3) I don't know, sorry.

4) In general, assault medics are the bread and butter of the game. You can never go wrong with a defibrillator and rockets, on any map. Honestly, though, I'd think more about which style of playing you like and go from there, every kit has a place. At the very least, though, you need to unlock the defibrillator.

My order of preference for unlocks, listed in order of preference of kit:
Assault: Defib, health pack, shotgun attachment, helmet, rockets. This really is the most common kit you see on the battlefield, though most people who stick with the kit will pick up smoke grenades and the Voss very, very quickly. Personally, I prefer the default weapons, but there have been long, heated debates on that topic. As a note, this kit is probably the easiest to test before you unlock. Since you can pick up kits off dead soldiers and a good portion of the server is going to be playing assault with defib/rockets/gun, you can see whether you like it or not.

Support: EMP grenades, helmet, sentry gun, Ganz. If you have Northern Strike, get the IDS. If not, getting the Ganz allows you to field unlock the IDS.

Engineer: EMP mines, repair, motion mines, pilum. Once you get a chance, getting the PDS is a good option.

After you have everything else, start recon. That's in my opinion, and this, too, is a subject of much debate.

5) As far as I know

6) You get an unlock every rank.

edit: If you want my advice, I'd grab the essential stuff for assault medic, then get all the passive unlocks. They apply regardless of kit, which means that once you get the stuff you need for a default soldier, you'll be able to grab kits to suit the situation at hand.

Re: a few questions

I Agree with reaper on the part of buying retail. When you do, make sure you get the deluxe edition, it's at most 10 dollars more, but you get more unlocks and a few more maps with it. It's worth it. Hope to see you on the battlefield!
