As all TacticalGamers know the admin team works very hard to ensure our ruleset provides for maximal immersion in a game. We often refer to this as trying to trying to play in a near simulation environment. After some careful consideration, we are pleased to announce important amendment to our ruleset to further this goal.

Starting today, April 1, 2008 We will be requiring all TG tagged players to “roleplay” their soldiers.

2142 as a roleplaying game:

We are expecting players to develop a persona beyond your daily self with which to develop and interact with others in Battlefield 2142. When you make the conscious choice to roleplay - You have made the choice to immerse yourself and invest yourself far more deeply in a game than many others. This immersion is the thing TacticalGamer is aiming for. We can think of no better day than today to implement this important change to our ruleset!

The backstory
This means your character needs to have a detailed and plausible “backstory.” Details such as your lineage and any relation to other significant characters in the 2142 universe are expected. There will be a new field in your userCP for your soldiers backstory and any significant character developments. To handle the sticky issue of explaining respawning, we will roleplay a new medical tech that allows for nano tissue reconstruction. You have amnesia from the moment of death till respawn. You are expected to post and use VOIP while “in character.” We will be putting up the in character forums soon to allow people to post more in depth communications while in character.


Some helpful hints to get you started:

In Character (IC)= Anything that pertains to the game world, storyline, politics or character development.
Out of Character (OOC)= Everything else.

Blending IC and OOC in game can be confusing and is often the mark of a new roleplayer or someone that isn't putting a lot of effort into roleplay itself. Needless to say if you spend half your conversation talking in character and then suddenly explode in chat with LOLOLOLOLOLOL, that is disruptive to the roleplay experience. You may of course just be in your own way acting out your character laughing, but from a roleplay perspective, internet acronyms are not IC, and thusly tend to break the immersion. Consistently talking in character then switching to OOC real world events in a chat without an OOC delineation is also blending and can cause confusion or annoyance to more seasoned roleplayers as well that are wishing to play their experience as IC as possible. Blending can also become severely detrimental to the community when it is used in a fashion to attack characters because of your personal feelings about the mun(mundane) behind them.


Stay in character while using VOIP and text!

Clearly you can tell that roleplaying will be more effective over VOIP and it is our expectation that people remain IC while on VOIP.

Please note that roleplaying is now enforced by rule!

This is not a suggestion but a sweeping rule change that the admin team feels very strongly about. Admins are now known as Battlefield Masters or BMs and should be addressed as such.

We understand this is a big change and will take some time to get used to. We would like to hear both positive and negative feedback a about this rule. Please keep your comments on topic and serious only.
