Explaining the addiction
So, why are we so addicted to this game? Ive decided to share a little anecdote with you all to try and shed some light on this epidemic. Please be advised this is not intended for the squeamish!
Time: 11:00 pm
Date: 04-04-08
Place: my gaming sanctum inside my sprawling 3 bedroom palace in NY
Time on server as yet: 8 hours
I can do it, 100 more points to promotion to Colonel and that IDS unlock Fubar keeps telling me to bring! Take a break in between Tunis and Gibraltar to grab some twinkies and milk. Crap, got booted from the server again, have to rejoin. This is it this is the round, im going to put up a 50 spot, get my good conduct ribbon and get promoted.
Time: 11:45 pm
Crap. well ill have to try again. Lets recap what happened that round:
*Joined Reapers squad, he yelled at me and banned me from the squad for spawning with a sniper.
* Got knifed 5 times by Zhohar
* Shifty rocketed me 10 times
* Stepped on 5 of Lyra APM's
* got punished for 5 accidental team kills for RDXing my own flag
* Rage banned and unbanned me three times for cursing at the other team
* total round score: -10
Oh well theres always next round...........
Time: 2:00 am
I can do it, 20 more points till promotion.......
Theres a knock at the door, my wife is standing there wearing something out of a porno movie...."come to bed.....its been a while....", she says.
"ill be right up, i just need 10 points to get to Colonel"
Door slams
Time: 8:00 am
Crap, how do you get a -20 in one round? still 50 points away, have to do it this round.
Phone rings....... " Umm Rogue are you coming to work today?"
"I apologize sir i still have that stomach virus"
"Wow youve had that for a month now?"
Time: 6:00 pm
Wake up with my face stuck to the desk, drool on the keyboard and 7 empty twinkie wrappers strewn all over my desk. Well this is the day im going to do it... finally gonna get my promotion... logging on.....what? ...... You have been banned from the server for excessive teamkilling? .......sigh.....posting on private admin forum again!
Sad but true folks! Admit your addiction, the first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem!
This has been a public service message"Only the Dead have seen the end of War"..........

The thrill of the kill streak. When you get in the zone and you're just completely unstoppable. When the guy on your team refuses to give you ammo and you just blast his face off, take his kit, drop a box, then pick up your kit again, and roll out with your squad.

When i first got high-speed internet (back in march of 07) I played counter strike scource and Call of Duty for 72 hours straight. I was so tired that i took a 3-hour nap, woke up, rolled over and fell asleep for 14 hours.

Re: Explaining the addiction
The longest I've ever stayed awake is 36 hours. I couldn't imagine 72.
I do have one strange obsession with my weapon stats. I always try to keep my individual weapon KD ratios above or at 1.0. I'm mostly there, with the exception of the Ganz, which I should really use more often, and the Voss, which I've long since given up on.

Re: Explaining the addiction
I don't get to play very often, so consequently ranking up takes ages, so getting awards to speed it along is the only thing that I can really do. Somehow managed to get an elusive ribbon a few nights ago and I was happy. "Wow, this ribbon took AGES to get, I'll bet that got me mostly to the next rank."
Then I saw it was worth like 20 points. WEAK

Re: Explaining the addiction
Yeah. Been trying to get hours as squad leader so i can get some more ribbons. I've repaired stuff for over a thousand points yet have not gotten an enjineering excellence bronze badge.
YAY: got the bronze and silver by camping a titan underfire that was getting it's gun shot. Made like 800 points that round.Last edited by Sir-Nerd; 04-09-2008 at 06:17 PM.
