Unlock Ideas

The announcement of the 1.50 patch got me thinking of what some new unlocks could be, and I came up with these right off the top of my head:

NAME: AimAssist
KIT: Recon
This is a small device Recon soldiers can drop on the ground. When it is deployed, anyone in the area that switches to their scope and doesn't move the mouse will have their cross-hair moved toward any nearby enemy.

NAME: MediBot
KIT: Assault
This is a floating robot similar to the one you can get as a Squad Leader. It follows the Assault soldier around at waist level, and exudes a healing effect exactly like the one created by a Medic Hub.

NAME: InvisiWall
KIT: Support
This is a small cube, that when deployed expands into a large wall. It isn't solid, so players can walk through it and it doesn't stop fire, but it is used as camouflage for groups of soldiers. If you are on the side the Support player was on when they deployed it, you see a transparent wall with red lines, but if you are on the other side the soldiers behind it are invisible.

NAME: ArmorDefense
KIT: Engineer
This is a long bar that can be placed onto any vehicle. Once placed, the driver of that vehicle can activate a shield that covers 180 degrees of the side that the bar was placed on. This shield prevents all kinds of weapon for a short time.

What do you guys think? Got any of your own ideas?

I 1 shot kill sniper rifle that has only one bullet in a clip and 10 clips. Reload takes ten seconds.

A minigun for the support. Basically a gun that is like a walker gun but must remain stationary when in use.

An assault rifle that does not have iron sight or scope, but an attached defib that replaces the right-click.

A tv missle for engineers that you control like the one's in BF2 with the clicking system.

What I'd really like to see is a modification to the smoke grenades – larger smoke volume and the ability to jam scanning devices like IDSs, UAVs, Otuses etc. This would literally wipe an enemy soldier off the friendly infantry detection devices while that enemy is within the smoke.

Gibraltar and other C:A maps strongly focus on stalemates and breakthrough. A competent squad with these EMP Smoke Grenades would be able to break through and mix things up a bit.

I personally find Gibraltar very tiring and frustrating and I think that stems from my inability to do anything – once trenches are established, the amount of viable tactics drops to virtually one – dig in and throw grenades/rockets.
As an experienced player, I dislike that lack of choice. These grenades would definitely make breakthrough easier.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Some grenades are pretty stupid right now. I'd love to be able to create a ton of cover, to the point where several of them could cloak an entire squad running from one building to another in, say, Gibraltar. Also, I don't see why we need two different kinds of them. The second one does everything the first one does. It's a waste of an unlock.

The radar/smoke grenade is now something Wyle E. Coyote would use. Shoot me here I am.
Changes such as larger volume of smoke that stays longer would be good. Radar/Jammer grenade - perhaps confuse IFF - can't see enemy and friendly's show as enemies.

This would be very nice, as would some kind of stun grenade. EMPs make semi-decent makeshift flashbangs, but CoD4-style stun grenades would be interesting as well, I think.

Does Crux know you talk like that?

I love the idea. I think what sorta 'ruins' BF2142 a bit is that there's WAY too much 'intel' available. IDS, spotting, UAVs, commanders, NetBat - it's just ridiculously hard to keep a low profile.

As for me... probably Active Defense Drone - A support deployable that will target and attack incoming missiles, rockets, grenades, and other 'large' explosives that are moving towards it. Think the augmentation from Deus Ex. It'd help DRAMATICALLY to cut down on the ridiculous rocket spam.

I think the ability to counter intel would be great, disabling the IDS(which I think the EMP grenade should be doing anyway). The drones we have are good, btu Spanky needs some help targeting at times. After all people, it is 2142 and technology gives the military the Intel devices......Just need to work around them.

Personally, I would make a number of changes:

Remove a lot of soldier based infantry detection. Squad leader drones, IDS...gone. Also, fun as he is, spanky.

Give limited otus powers to recon, and make the sniper rifle head shots into kills, not criticals.

Increase the cooldown on commander radars, and limit spotting to 1 a minute.

Increase the cooldown and the effectiveness of commander orbitals.

Give Squadleaders and commander a shared voip channel.

100% more smoke in smoke grenades.

Give engineers a radar "scramble" deployable, so that people looking at the map know that SOMETHING is up in that location, but don't know quite what.

Buff the GHOST deployable into a Duke Nukem type "Holo Duke" that stands, crouches and prones as the owner does.

Recon :

silencer and something that would jam those red lines that show the enemy from where he's shot at.

Assault :

some immobile thingy that's near the beacon which is a better version of medic hub.

Engineer :

4 - barreled bazooka (when there's 2 or more vehicles nearby that you need to shoot) with very limited ammo ofc.

Support :

Agree on the minigun

I personally would love to see better smoke granades implemented. I love using smoke in most games, but BF2142.

On the support kit, some flashbangs would be great too altough EMPs are nice.. Actually support is an anti infantery kit so I believe they implemented EMP Granades as a kind of flashbang which allows the victim a better chance to defend.. We all know how annoying is to be shot blind =P

The engineer radar scramble would be amazing, but they should make it like a turret, and not a sticky like an IDS because you could attach it to a gunship and it would be too overpowered.

And for recon.. Maybe a short range, silent, 1 shot 1 kill weapon with only 1 bullet in the clip and only a few clips, like 3... kind of a short ranged knife for when you need to make that silent kill but you cant get close enough to knife (I was thinking in the marine's harpoon gun in Commandos: Behind enemy lines)

Since I'm only about 1/2 way through the unlocks I'm not sure what I'd want since I don't know what I need. I would like to see a new map or two though.

Anyone ever play Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. In certain missions you get a special type of pistol that has one shot. It was an instant kill and was silence to the point you couldn't hear it.
