Re: Duty: A 2142 Story
Here's part four. There's a lot of new characters, so some of you guys will see yourselves in there. Thanks for the nice comments!
Jonathan stood, bringing the barrel of his Bianchi down. “Damn PAC sniper. You ok Joller?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” I walked out from my cover, and looked across at the crane. The body of the sniper was splayed backwards, his black clothing blending in with the metal of the crane. I could see the rifle he had shot me with lying beside his leg. Somehow I felt sad. Now that the man was dead, I felt no ill will towards him for shooting me. Sir Nerd came around the corner too. He peered over the edge of the precipice, then quickly jumped backwards. He turned around, and whispered to us, “There’s a whole PAC squad down there!” “Did they see you?” I replied, alarmed. “I don’t think so, no. But they were coming into this building!” I turned around and ran back towards the ladder. As I approached it I could see the top shaking. Somebody was coming up. Drawing my Voss, I peered over the edge. Suddenly, time seemed to slow down. A PAC soldier was coming up the ladder, his eyes on his hands as he climbed. Then he looked up. His eyes met mine. I noticed his dog tag. The word “Rob” glinted in the sun. His mouth fell slightly open. I pulled the trigger on my Voss. The gunfire ripped through the air. The PAC soldier, evidently named Rob, flew back down the ladder, his body rippled with bullets. I also fell backwards, the recoil on my gun pushing me back. I sat on the concrete roof, stunned. Then I blinked, and time sped back up. Jonathan had also run over to the opening in the roof. He pointed his Bianchi down the opening and let off several short bursts of fire. Sir Nerd was hanging back, obviously afraid. I stood up, unhooking a frag grenade from my belt. I ran back to the opening, pulled the pin, and chucked it down into the room below. Jonathan and I stepped back to avoid the blast. I heard the hiss of the grenade, and the scrabble of the PAC soldiers to get out of the way. Then it exploded, shaking the building slightly. There was a yell from down below. Jonathan ran back to the opening, but I went over to the side of the building. I looked down, at the doorway. There was a body of an enemy soldier down there, probably injured by my frag. Beside him, another PAC soldier had his defibrillator out, swearing in Russian as he shocked the body of the other man. I pulled up my Voss, aiming at the medic. Then I let it fall down. He was no threat to me right now. Finally he gave up on the other soldier, stood, and ran down the side of the building, towards the PAC base. He was at the corner when he stopped. He looked at me, looked at his gun, then looked back at me and nodded his head. I returned the gesture. He continued on his way. I went back over to Jonathan. He was getting ready to climb down the ladder. “Is it safe down there?” I asked. “Yes, I think so. I checked my DysTek and it came up clean.” “Alright.” He went down the ladder. I was starting to follow him when I noticed that the new guy, Sir Nerd, was nowhere to be seen. I shouted down after Jonathan, “I’m gonna go find Sir Nerd, we’ll regroup in a sec.” I went down to the far end of the building’s roof, turned a corner, and found Sir Nerd crouching behind a box, looking through the scope of his old Scar. “What’re you doing? We’re going back down.” He jumped, startled by my presence, but didn’t lower his gun. “Something’s happening over there.” He pointed across the road, at the end of the other row of buildings. I looked more closely at the place he had pointed out. I could see a friendly squad on the roof of the end building. After squinting, I recognized them. Rison was their squad leader, known for being a devoted medic. There were stories of his heroics at the battle of Minsk, where it was said he killed four PAC tanks in a gunship. Also on the roof were three of his squad members, Towuaway, Ion, and Westy. They were all crouching behind a similar outcropping to the one that had hidden us when Sir Nerd healed me. As I watched, they reloaded their guns, checked all their equipment, and followed Rison across the roof until they were at the end. They lowered themselves prone, until they were flat on the roof. Then, at a command, they let forth a barrage of gunfire. The mixed sounds of a Clark, Baur, Scar and Lambert going off simultaneously filled the air of Camp Gibraltar. I turned my attention from the squad to their target. It was a large PAC squad that was sneaking up the main ramp onto the road. Two of them were down already, and the rest were taking hits. A third one hit the concrete, and the two survivors took cover. One of them pulled out his defibrillator, obviously aiming to leave cover to save his comrades. The other one yelled, “Brain! He aenante atoro!” The courageous medic ignored his friend, and ran out. He was either very lucky, or very, very lucky. Somehow he managed to shock up two of his downed allies, push them into cover, and get over to the third one, all while under direct fire from four EU men. However, once he had saved the third injured man, he finally took a bullet. It struck his head. He fell over, dead. I admired his courage. That is, until his comrades starting shooting at me and Sir Nerd. They had noticed us on the roof. It couldn’t have been hard, as we were in plain view. They were far off, so once we ducked behind the boxes they stopped. I looked down at the building where Rison’s squad was positioned. They were moving down their building’s roof, to take a position closer to the EU base. I thought it was time to find Jonathan, so, staying crouched, I went back around the corner, Sir Nerd close behind. We went over to the opening, and climbed down. At the base of the ladder was Jonathan. At first I thought he was sleeping. Then I noticed the gash on his chest, blood was seeping out. He opened his eyes slightly. With his last few breaths, he uttered the words, “Watch out. Goddamn knifer.” Sorry jonathanshifty, Rob, and brain21. Somebody's got to die in war. Oh yeah, here's the list of people still to be included: Daithi: Commander Big Eye: Whatever Sights: Lone wolf sniper, ghost unlock Again, if anyone wants to be in the story, just ask. Thanks, joller
