Re: Teamspeak etiquette

I must say that I'm running out of keys to use on the left side of my keyboard.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

These are using the left control and left shift keys

ctrl+shift+m toggle mute
ctrl+shift+a toggle away
ctrl+shift+up is to navigate down (odd, I know)
ctrl+shift+down is to navigate up
ctrl+shift+numpad + volume up
ctrl+shift+numpad - volume down

My press to talk button is right control.

I use my keyboard to do those keybinds but I bound my mouse's tilt wheel left button to be the right control key, which makes it so much easier for me to use TeamSpeak.

TS is a great community builder. It can be lots of fun to chat a bit between rounds etc. But as soon as the next round starts its warmup, TS should be free from idle chatter. squad announcements and requests are very appropriate during warmup, but not much else. I routinely turn the volume down on TS during the pre round warmup so I can concentrate.
It's my observation, and opinion, that the time in-between rounds isn't really sufficient to do any kind of "bonding" at all. I've joined up on the TS channel most of the time I'm on, but haven't really found a use for it other than the collective chagrin when the server borks a map, or reporting someone for bunny-hopping. A couple of times, I've kind of started a bit of banter or made various comments, but the response is lukewarm at best and I very quickly got the feeling that the chatter really was being received as nothing more than interference.

So I've stopped logging in, and just keep it to in-game VoIP.

On 2142 we have a very long pre match start up time so we can discuss what were going to do. During that time very often there is a lot of chatter on TS so much so that I often can not hear my squad between TS squad members and a commander. I don't think it is reasonable to tell jokes or tie up the bandwith very much between matches after squads start forming.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

The last few nights have been awesome with the number of people in TS, keep it up everyone. One note, if you join during a round, please do not break into a conversation with everyone while playing, very distracting to a SL who is trying to filter the information from his squad and his CO. As Sleeper said, we have the long timer for a reason, planning. Please do not take it personally when Rage comes over TS with about 45 seconds left and asks everyone to be quiet, we are just trying to plan our 1337 strat. Overall, great job everyone.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

Would it be appropriate if there was a "chatter channel", possibly within the main channel, so that you could talk freely without being disruptive to SLs whilst still hearing them?

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

Don't we have the "Lobby" channel for that?

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

I don't think that's necessary. The TG smack talk between the rounds is a lot of fun and it very rarely interferes with running a proper squad.
If a TGer is in channel, they're usually in a TG squad and they stop talking on TS once their ingame SL starts talking. TS is fine the way it is.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

If you are feeling extra chatty, feel free to join up in the lobby, that is what it is for.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

The lobby is for chatty folks. Don't be surprised to find yourself moved there if you disrupting everyone else.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

Thats what I thought it was for. I agree with Zhohar however. It almost never interferes with my playing at any time.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

*Bump*

TeamSpeak has been getting WAY too chatty lately. Please try and keep the conversations to a minimum, both in game and between rounds. Idle banter is fine, but the constant chatter needs to stop.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

/agree.

BF2142 main TS is for REPORTING infractions of rules. Sub-channels are for more laxed comms. While a good laugh and bragging right are OK. more complex conversation need to be cutt out or switched to another channel.

Lets keep banter to a minimum. Your IHS members can make whisper binds to everyone in your IHS to make things easy and less confusing to other players.

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

Can you whisper to more than one person?

Re: Teamspeak etiquette

Sure, you can set up as many whispers as you can remember. I have a single whisper set up for all of the 8th tagged members so when I push the whisper button, it whispers to all of them but I could set up individual whispers for individual players as well but that would require much more work than i would be willing to give!!
