I suggest getting this thread moved to General. Let the rest of TG in on the fun!

    How about the spelling, with US using color and UK using colour, or center versus centre.

    Then there's:

    flashlight => torch
    trunk => boot
    hood => bonnet

    Two nations separated by a common language!

    (I watch a lot of Doctor Who, so I tend to pick up this stuff. )
    Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

    Iliana: "You're a great friend but if we're ever chased by zombies I'm tripping you."

    This makes no sense, and not even in a 'LOL DRIVE ON THE RIGHT LOL' kind of way.

    Behold! A three-story building. It has three floors. Count them. One, two, three.

    Now in England, do you call this a two-story building? But when you count, it only has two floors!

    Now, I found this picture of the buttons in British lift!

    How profound! The Lobby is the 'ground floor', yet it is followed by the 'second floor'.

    Another one!

    ... uh oh.

    It's getting worse! Help!

    Oh ****!

    Hmm not sure about the UK but Ireland has apartments and flats. Apartments are a 'posher' word, it usually refers to a more expensive place but the line is a bit blurry.

    Simple it is a 'three-storey building' yet it's floors are Ground, 1st and 2nd.

    In england you can use either for all of these examples really...

    And Uranium, it is a three storey building. It has 3 floors. Yet the bottom floor is called the ground floor, then the 1st and 2nd floor.

    By the way, we drive on the right side of the road. Steering with your left hand is just annoying as hell.

    The main one for me is soccer and football. Come on, you use your feet to kick the ball, and you chuck the ball in American football...

    Yh, I've seen and heard a lot of pointless arguments about this stuff with American and Northern people about how they talk and their vocabulary, at the end of the day, as long as you get your point across, even if it's in Japanese, who cares. But Silver, you were right to point this out, just to make sure that everyone remembers.
