Ok honestly, I think that was random and uncalled for.

Re: English vs USA phrases
I'm still hoping one of you old worlders will attempt to define the english phrase; "taking the piss" for us.
(I know what it means but I get no end of entertainment out of watching my fellow americans try to grasp it while my english and irish friends stumble in the explaining) Us yanks should have a look here. I guarantee a laugh. p.s. "Betty Swollox"

"Taking the piss" - to make fun of, or to 'take the mickey'

..hehehe , and taking the piss would be taking the piss OUT OF somebody.. so taking the dignity from, or taking the mickey of, simple enough.... the pants one and football ones get me.. lol.. pants... are pants... pants are not trousers or jeans lol. and as somebody said.. Foot + ball = football not soccer, and hand plus ball does not = football lol

Re: English vs USA phrases
Actually, the United States does not have an official language.
Someone should proof those signs before holding it out for the world to see you can't spell. I don't think "offical" can be found in anyone's dictionary. ![]()

Re: English vs USA phrases
A few observations:
Any person who grew up with C knows that you start counting with 0. In a building it's the ground floor, then the first floor. In the US the 13th floor is sometimes missing. Getting knocked up seems to have a different meaning across the atlantic.

Re: English vs USA phrases
im not sure exactly but ive heard in Austrailia and the Europe toilet is the US equivalent for bathroom.
makes sense because not all bathrooms have a shower or bath in them. ex: "where can i find a bathroom?" theres no bathrooms here but theres a toilet down the hall |
