I have an unlock available and I was wondering which I should get first? What are the pros and cons of each?

Voss to me seems to be a good close quarters option. The Baur is very good at medium ranges. I like them both but have scored far more with the Baur. In single shot mode, its a good "huntin' rifle". Certainly not a sniper rig but a reasonable middle range weapon for plinking bad guys with. The Voss shines during a titan assault where the fight gets a little more intimate.

Baur- extremely close or middle-long range. definitely. not a sniper. 20 round clip
Voss- Close to middle range, 40 round clip

it all depends on what you plan on doing. Titan assault or Gibraltar will probably be a voss, while most other maps require a baur.
i personally use the baur, its got more power and a good shot is deadly.

If you are pretty new to the game I'd say the Voss is a better choice for getting into the game. This from personal experience, but the Voss is an all around good gun. You can full auto with it, single shot with it, and even full auto at extreme ranges and do pretty well. The drawback is that it does not do as much damage IMO.

The Baur is a more... tricky gun. I'm not sure that is the right word for it, but it takes a certain amount of getting used to. I got the Baur before the Voss, played with it, hated it, and got the Voss. I used the Voss and started liking it a lot. After I got better at the game I switched back to using the Baur and now I won't even touch a Voss.

IMO the Baur takes getting used to and a fine touch. Once you master it, however, it's awesome to say the least.

I'd say get the Voss first to warm up with, then go for the Baur so you get flexibility.
Tim's dead on with the pros and cons.

Eventually, you'll discover which one you prefer.

Personally, I don't like the Baur. I always carry the Voss (of course, you know that already Xr).

I find the Voss perfect for me and only carry the Baur when I feel like screwing around with it. Granted the Voss doesn't have the accuracy at long range like the Baur does...but that's what rockets are for.

Not to mention, I find the majority of the battles on the Conquest server are usually close range...where the Voss shines.

They both have their uses, but from all the other threads exactly like this one, the common theme seems to be "Use what you're comfortable with."

Lies! The Voss is more accurate and has less recoil. The Baur does more damage per shot and each shot's damage drops off over a much larger distance, so you'll still do that wonderful 3-shots-to-kill at 100m out.

Actually, if you're debating which gun to unlock, go with the Baur. You'll still be able to use the defaults (which, imo, are superior) while getting one step closer to the NS 'more rockets' unlock. If you don't have NS, that puts you within range to field unlock both an extra rocket per clip and another clip, and who can say no to that?

I would suggest you to take Voss, when I had this choice I didn't take it, and noticed that "you can't hit anywhere with this". When I finally got Voss it was much better, until I practised Baur wwhen I was seeding the server about 1hour... When the game finally started Baur just owned.
So Voss is simple but Baur will be more effective when you learn it, so go for the Voss if you aren't ready to waste points of couple round while learning Baur. Baur has couple really good sides, if you hit 1 shot into your targets head, it does as much damage as Zeller's chest shot, so 1 headshot + 1 chestshot from Baur is dead target. Only thing that really gives Voss supremacy over Baur is that you can shoot MUCH more with Voss, but still Baur is better with those "jump behind corner and kill every1" situations because you need only 3/4 bullets per target.

So this was about the weapons, even as you get rockets unlock from Baur side I don't suggest it for now, it is hard to learn...

Just because you have the Baur unlocked doesn't mean you have to use it.

edit: Or, you could use the field unlock system to FU each weapon and test out which one you like more.

I think the most common choice would be voss. The voss can fit into any situation well. I prefer to engage with the baur at 20 - 50 meters, the voss I prefer from 0-30. There is some overlap. I like to control the distance of my engagements. I will work to keep that distance to my advantage. so when I have the voss I try to get in close, when I have the baur I try to stay at a distance. They both require different play styles that go beyond controlling recoil. When I am squad leading I almost always use the baur. I will try to stay 20+ meters away from my target as my life is more important as an SL spawnpoint.

If you force yourself to get used to the Baur your overall performance with any rifle will increase. The Baur is less forgiving, so you'll really hone good marksmanship skills.
