Just yesterday I jumped in the air when someone started firing at me in close range.

I stopped to let him 'have the kill' and he completely ran out of ammo and ran away.

    I laughed.

I hate to do it. I really, really sympathize with that moment of anger, that clean feeling of revenge for someone who's been pissing you off, or hurting their team, or bringing down the mature mood of the server.

But if we don't police our own, we give up any moral structure and become tyrants when we try and impose server rules on visitors to our server. As much as I hate to punish my friends, I will do it, rather than drag the admin staff and all of TG through the mud.

    Again, just a gentle reminder.
Based on the date of this post I think I might have been the reason for gloops post. Thankfully I had some clear heads in my squad that warned me not to do what I asked, no, begged my squad to do. This was to TK the Commander. The events that resulted in my bad behavior was; a fighting commander, that had no speakers or did not understand English (I tried to provide suggestions/strategy/options to him), never gave orders, Never dropped a supply box, NEVER ran a scan or spotted a target, and NEVER USED THE ORBITAL STRIKE!! As I said; after cooler heads reminded me about the way we play, I took a deeper breath and just held on to toll stations until the game finished, Sigh. Again to any one that played with me that round I apologize, and to that lone voice that stepped in for my missing conscience thank you.

So a Tag is the " |TG| " thing? Is it only a certain Tag or like all the Tags for IHS that have |TG| in it? I've been wondering this for awhile.

The TG tag itself is "|TG|". In house squads use a numerical designator in their TG tags, such as "|TG-9th|". The Irregulars use "|TG-Irr|". All are TG tags.

Wth all due respect, that is BS. One jump (and only one) is a reasonable action to avoid injury/damage. If anybody here had a knife pulled and slashed at them on the street, reaction #1 would be to leap out of the way.

Continued use of this action is certainly bunny hopping but to say one jump is bunny hopping... Sillyness.

I disagree. (This is where one would apply the martial art of RUN-FOO)

If someone pulls a knife on you and you think you can get away, you're going to run as fast as you can... not jump 15 inches in the air before you run (perhaps hoping that you'll get stabbed in the leg instead of your neck.) Of course you could fabricate some situation where jumping first MAY save you, but in reality jumping up in the air is really only going to slow you down.

In almost every real situation, there is no tactical advantage to be gained by jumping in a similar manner as one does in 2142...mainly because in reality it is not possible. One cannot immediately jump any direction and up, followed by hitting the ground at their fastest running speed....all while putting a first-aid kit back in their backpack and digging out an assault rifle.

The knifer probably shouldn't have been knifing in the first place, but utilizing the jump action in 2142 takes advantage of an imperfect interface and allows you to unfairly recover from getting caught with your pants down.

The bottom line is that if you wish to play on our servers, you should respect our rules. Sillyness or not, that's how we like it. (personally, i like it VERY silly).

It's not a distinction we're willing to make. I hop all the time in surprise, or fumbling for the correct key if my hand gets out of place, but any hopping to avoid fire is against sever rules. Once is too many.

No one being shot at in real life jumps. No one. People dive behind cover, and people run, crouched over to present a smaller target. No one jumps up and down. Let's keep some perspective here.

Re: Wearing your tags, and breaking server rules:

The nature of bunny-hoppingness was described to me a while back on the Contact an Admin forum. Like Lorax said earlier, jumping for cover is legitimate, but jumping in the open is not.

    Why?

Well, as always, it links back to the TG Primer. Not exploiting game mechanics, and instead trying to create a slightly more realistic and immersive experience. Did you see anyone jumping up and down to avoid fire in Black Hawk Down? No. Do you see them jumping to get behind cover, yes.

So you're saying you'd jump up and not back away if someone tried stabbing you?

I doubt you've ever actually been in this situation if this is what you're saying, and even someone with no first-hand experience could tell you that.

You are a bumpaholic tonight Fubar.

As a trained Martial Artist I know for a fact that if someone swung a knife on you, you would not jump up. Throw yourself back? Yes. Block down? Yes. Do a step through block and a hip-throw? Yes. But not jump directly up. You would still get sliced. I for one, make a it a rule for me to NEVER jump like that. Sure I press a wrong button or do it our of sheer reflex, but never trying.

Thanks for bumping fubar. We all need to be reminded of this.

Not just jump, but jump up and down repeatedly. Can you imagine some dark alley, a shady guy with a knife, and some guy hopping in circles to avoid being slashed? I don't think so!
