I might not be crap
Tried to play last evening and just couldn't get into the swing of things - got gunned down time and time again, my stats plummeted and my K/D ratio was abysmal --
then I read Uranium - 235's post on ping and realised that if my ping is 181 and the little bloke I'm engaged with is 32 chances are he's got it in the bag......

ping.
playing with 80 is hard enough. I can't imagine 160.

Re: I might not be crap
I play with 120ish and it can be a problem head-to-head against skilled players (it's also a GREAT excuse! LOL). But otherwise i feel it ok with it.

Re: I might not be crap
I play with a 160 ping value.
As Superfast said, head-to-head against skilled players is a problem.
This is the main reason I am a zero-kill player in most of the rounds.
The other reason is that I am crap on shooting things

Re: I might not be crap
Hmm 180 seems very high for someone from the UK. I peak at 130 and am usually down <100 sometimes getting down to 60-70. Make sure you don't have anything eating bandwidth in the background.
Try working on your shot on European servers, Monkeygamers is a good place. Aim for the head. It's a lot harder the higher the ping. Just in general try to flank and when shooting crouch zoom and shoot to the chest/head. With accuracy in mind the Voss is probably the best but as you progress you'll probably find you like the Krylov and possibly the Scar nicer. Baur is always good to work on you accuracy try to get people in mid-long range and single shot they're head twice.

Being in Ireland too, I get around the same as Daithi. I found that I need to play slightly differently to others. Long range shots will need to be aimed slightly more ahead of enemies. Ambushing will be your friend. You will need to get the drop on players who have better ping. Intel is most important, try to Q spot.

Bommando did fine for years with his 200 ping all the way from Australia.

Re: I might not be crap
High ping is not just for our mates overseas. I sometimes play from my laptop when out in the field for work and often spike over 300. I am definitely a supporting role player on these types of nights. I hardly ever scope due to lag and rarely fire at anything not standing a few meters away! But I have become handy with the engineer kit (MM, EMPM, MMB, and repairs) and always able to revive the team mates around me. Stay with your squad as much as possible and don't even look at orbital strikes. That's how I am always getting kicked! (such lag OMG)

Re: I might not be crap
My ping is around 150. I actually don't really feel a big differents to other servers. Shoot kill or shoot and get killed ... allways the same - on evey server

Re: I might not be crap
As I said in my post, the two biggest problems are:
- Bullets going through people. I'll gun people with an HMG at close range, and most of my bullets will go right through them. Then they take a flying backflip and kill me with two unscoped full-bloom shots from their Voss.
- Getting killed around corners.
The first makes ping issues very frustrating, and I lament the lack of decent netcode in this game

Re: I might not be crap
My ping hovers around 13....ya I know, it's good. Didn't ever think it might have more to do with my play than anything else though.

Re: I might not be crap
The ping issues are very valid, but when going head to head with these two weapons, keep the following in mind:
Shooting the HMG from the "hip" is very inaccurate in comparrision to the Voss. Try an empty server, vary your distance from a wall and fire both weapons from the hip. You will be very suprised.

Re: I might not be crap
I'm talking like 'up their tailpipe' kinda close.
But it's other guns too. Using shotgun weapons, for example - two direct shots at less than 20 meters should finish anyone off, but sometimes I see the explosion of sparks and the like on the wall behind them, and no damage indicator. Or they just soak three shots or more.
