First strike thoughts
Hey guys!
Just played some FS! I'd like to know what you guys think about it?
IMO:
I'm not that much impressed by this mod. I really do like the idea - but ... it somehow looks unfinished for me. The spacemaps are something that is very confusing for me (get lost all the time) but I think thats something that only needs practise.
There are some nice vihicles and and some interssting maps. But as said before I'm not that much impressed.
What do you guys think?

Re: First strike thoughts
I've been playing it a fair bit and I've been enjoying it. I got a little frustrated earlier today because it seemed like none of our squads were sticking together and playing the TG way, it was just every man for himself. I think that with an organised squad-based approach to the mod, it could prove to be a lot of fun.
The space battles do get better with practice. Going from 2 dimensions to 3 dimensions is definitely a little disorienting at first, but with a little communication it can really work to one's advantage.
I think the mod has a lot of promise and I'd like to see us play it more, and really try to play it tactically.

Re: First strike thoughts
I really enjoyed the more infantry based maps. Vehicle heavy maps like Rhen Vhar didn't appeal to me as its quite difficult to take out vehices with only one AV in your squad. You're almost forced to spawn at least 2 or 3 AV's or wait for reinforcements >.<
I never got play the space maps with a ping lower then 230, so I can't accurately say how I feel about them :P
All in all, infantry maps were really fun, with the little speeder bikes and the land speeder rushes :P

Re: First strike thoughts
Here is my input. FS 1.2 is definitely an improvement over the earlier releases. However, we must remember that it is still a work in progress and the devs are still working (they plan to release a hotfix soon for major 1.2 bugs).
Regardless, much like DaBrit said, if we put the same teamwork into FS as we do 2142 the mod has a lot of potential. I forget who was all in the squad, but I was SL around 4:00ET on some infantry maps and we were having a ball moving as a team through the streets of Mos-Espa (sorry to those guys I had to leave).
I think one of the major setbacks to the game is the confusion caused by class kit changes. There is now a sole trooper kit, a support and heavy weapons kit (still need to play with these to find the differences between them), and the officers kit.
All of these kits are changed but once we figure out which kits we like playing individually and how they fit best in squad-play, I think we will enjoy the mod more. I've been thinking a little about Kit functions, and I intend to write up my views on the individual kits soon. Should I write them up here or make a new thread for them?----------------------------------------

Re: First strike thoughts
EMP gun + R2-D2 + a hill = fun.
I didn't like the tanks, too overpowered compared to how much damage you need to apply and the lack of sweet spots. The Landspeeders require some work too because if i would use boost and hit a small bumb on the ground, the speeder would have flown 30m into the air and crashed.|TG-Irr|JamesTerror

Re: First strike thoughts
The space maps are too slow for me, they get boring.
But the infantry maps have great potential for TG action! We had a couple of rounds where with Timusafa as SL, and got some nice stuff going. One just needs to get to practice the new classes and weapons more, and i think it can get more fun then!

Re: First strike thoughts
I agree with Bigeye.....The whole thing needs polish!
I do understand that it's a work in progress (I have been tracking this one for a while), but it just reminds me of some of my early attempts at mapmaking for Unreal 2004. It needs tweaking....
I couldn't get any servers when I tried it, so I only base my opinion on a solo run-around in a "private" server.
I didn't try a space battle yet, don't know if I want to now!!!
I want this mod to succeed and I hope they are gpoing to put A LOT more time into it.

Re: First strike thoughts
Positive
Infantry makes are good
Infantry kits are good, they were creative with the gadgets
Negative
Flying maps are rubbish
Tank maps are rubbish
Player count even after this new patch is about 100 at any one time
So there is not enough player base for TG to run a server and the mod is not strong enough anyway

Re: First strike thoughts
I for one am going to keep working with the FS mod to see it's perks and strengths/weaknesses. For anyone who wishes to join me, I'll be playing on the Shattered_Planet server mostly, because that was the one where I think we got the best ping.
Also, on TS the BF2142 lobby channel isn't used very often, so whenever I'm on FS 1.2 i'll try to be on that channel. Again, feel free to join me on FS if you see me on the Lobby channel. I'll probably be on later tonight (somewhere around 2000 ET).----------------------------------------

Re: First strike thoughts
I found the infantry maps to be the best fun. Space maps are difficult for me as I do not have a joystick. The armor heavy maps are too armor heavy and there needs to be some sweet spot identification. Three HW rockets did not take out a tank or AT-ST that were not being repaired. The city-scape maps are by far the best. More time with the kits and I will probably enjoy the mod even more. I think the TG squadplay that was lacking early on yesterday was due to most people seeing the mod for the first time and wanting to check out the maps and what kits do(?).
Good mod all in all. Hope to see more FS days in the future.

Re: First strike thoughts
The mod is ok, it needs some improvements/nerfs. Such as the trooper's assault rifle needs a nerf and the sniper rifle needs to do more damage when you shoot someone in the head (would hit people in the head and they wouldn't die till I shot them again). Space fights are fun when you finally find someone lol. Overall a decent mod and w/ teamplay could be very enjoyable.

Re: First strike thoughts
The mod can be found here. I must say, however, that playing on a personal LAN server with no action doesn't do the mod justice. Get out on the ShatteredPlanet server (usually the only one populated) Tow to see what it's all about.

Re: First strike thoughts
I agree with most people here, the space maps are a bit confusing. Having a joystick helps, but I still get lost. Draw distance is too small, on convoy raid I had to be very close to the cargo ships before they appeared (yes, I do have it set to 100%)
Tanks are way overpowered, but having the 'withering fire' helps a bit.
Guns are way too inaccurate, I thought lasers are meant to travel perfectly straight?
Maps are a bit ugly, needs prettying up.
Vehicles (especially TIE fighters) are way too noisy, they need to shut up a bit so I can hear what my squad/teamspeak is saying. Does anyone else have this problem?
Overall, if we could get it coordinated (and hear what is going on), it would be pretty awesome to have a massive battle on a map like Ryloth.|TG-Irr| westyfield

Re: First strike thoughts
Agreed westyfield, and yea the vehicles are too loud. When I was in the TIE fighter/bomber and A-wing and X-wing, I had to either take my headset off or turn off all in-game sounds so I could hear things on teamspeak/my squad.
