Morning all
Right, first off EA are ******* ******* *** ** ****....... thats better EA "Customer Support" have said, there are no plans to release 1.50 for MAC users typical isn't it, find a group of canny lads, start to learn from them, pay annual supporting member fee to ensure server time and now I can't access servers at all. I'll probably keep popping back to forums to see whats happening take care ((my blood pressure must be up about 15 points)) andy |

Re: WARNING! RANT: 1.50 - EA - & a hope they burn in hell
I'm actually very disapointed right now, there's not a single place to DL 1.5....that works. My downloads keep timing out and I've tried numerous sites. Why doesn't EA put the patch on that useless EA download manager that's sucking up space on my system? Why is that so difficult. I probably won't get to play the game for weeks until everyone else has finished DL'ing the patch and they don't have so much traffic. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

If I D/L Bootcamp does this mean I can dual boot my machine or does it run as an application in OSX. Also if I then buy another, windows version of Bf2142, will I have to restart game from beginning or can I carry across current profile? |

Bootcamp will also require you to install a working version of Windows (xp?). I think its a dual boot setup, but I could be wrong. There is also parallels iirc which is more like a windows VM for the mac OS. you can run them at the same time sort of thing.

Re: WARNING! RANT: 1.50 - EA - & a hope they burn in hell
I'm running the game on Vista using Bootcamp and it works great. I have a MacBook Pro. You don't actually have to download Bootcamp, it comes with Leopard. If you still have Tiger, you'll need to upgrade. You can ONLY install Windows on a Mac that has an Intel processor. All of them sold in the past 2 years or so (maybe 3?) are Intel.
Yes, it is a true dual boot. You'll need a copy of Vista or XP. If it is XP, it must have service pack 2 ON the disk to work right. If all you have is a copy of XP without the service packs, there is a pretty complicated way to put them onto a new disk along with the OS-- I think it's called "slipstreaming". I used Vista and it worked flawlessly. Here in the States, if you're an IT student in university, you likely qualify for free (or almost free plus shipping/ handling) software from Microsoft. I got Vista for I think like $20 and it's directly from M$. I don't know if they have anything like that across the pond, but it's worth looking into if you're a student. Personally, I would not recommend a parrallels program. It can definitely work, but I would only suggest it if you have like 4 GB of RAM. You will have to buy a Windows version of BF2142, but all of your progress will be saved under your login, so no worries there. Links: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Boo...tall-Setup.pdf (The Boot Camp Assistant app will print out the installation manual, the link above may not be up to date, so just use it as reference) That really sucks that they're not supporting us much. I heard that the game wasn't a good port to Mac, as it was choppy and people couldn't get as good of video quality as on PC. That's why I never bought the Mac version. This game is about the only reason I even have Vista installed on my Mac. I hope they do a better job for BF3. |

Re: WARNING! RANT: 1.50 - EA - & a hope they burn in hell
Well, a Bootcamped Mac IS a PC. It is a fully compatible Windows computer. Just when partitioning the harddrive, remember that the OS (especially Vista) takes up a large portion of the hard disk space. I don't have that large of a harddrive on my laptop, and I partitioned 25 GB for Windows. I pretty much just have the OS, this one game, MS Office, and Photoshop on it. And I'm left with only 4 - 5 GB of space on it. Only enough room for maybe one more game.

Re: WARNING! RANT: 1.50 - EA - & a hope they burn in hell
Ok I'm done being negative, I did end up getting the DL from some type of bit torrent site, I don't like using them because they usually require some type of software installation. I'm very particular about what goes on my machine.
I think the problem had a lot to do with Comcast. In fact I know I'm having some problems right now because of a storm we had earlier this afternoon. I'm DL'ing a patch for Conan at 900 bits/s yes...bits and it's 645 megs. It was giving an estimated amount of time it would take to DL the patch when it was at 60 kbs but went to all dashes. Based on my calculations I'll be up and running the next time Halley's Comet makes a pass.

If they sold a game that I couldn't run, fair enough, but there was a huge fanfare from EA about supporting MAC gamers, bf 2142 released October 30, 2007 (bf 2142 is the only game I have bought, purely because bf2 looked good on a mates PC) then suddenly, basically they couldn't give a toss about MAC users. anyway enough of me whinging, how are the new maps? |
