Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
I'd prefer to be a gunner for the gunship, but I can't fire the guided missile to save my life. I tried flying but lag and poor pilot skills killed me.

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
TV Missile controls are directly connected to the air controls. THis benefits alot from higher sensetivety. Keep in mind (this is they way I understand the physics) the further the missile goes the faster its moving and the harder it is to steer. MY personal theory on this is, dont take the shot until its close to the cross hairs to minimize the need for adjustment. Make a course(rough) adjustment at the very beginning of the shot then dont make anymore adjustments until right before impact. If you try to adjust alot during midflight you might find yourself overcompensating/overadjusting and missing.
The above is an oppinion***so if you dont agree just tell me where i'm wrong :P no flaming required

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
The TV Missile is the primary weapon for the Gunship. On TG the chaingun can only be used very rarely since flying low will net you a TV in your butt too easy.
What you need to understand is that the TV has a little delay in what you enter and whyt you do. So go like this - correct path > wait > correct > wait > correct > wait. Trying to instantly correct the path will result in the "wobbly mess" most people experience since you will naturally overcorrect.
I couldn´t´aim the BF2 TV to save my life - but 2142 is just fine. I actually am a better Gunner than a Pilot in the Gunship. I have magic TV missiles that spot enemy on the minimap and make 90° curves to him them
But sadly many people just hop in teh Gunenr seat when I approach the Gunship
... all but Eroak... but when we fly togetehr he´s liek a virgin girl on a promdate .... all jittery and nervous... likes to fly into trees and such.

Maybe using the chaingun is my personal preference, but I will turn up the sensitivity for vehicles.

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
You gotta love fail pictures...but I'll refrain in the future.
Thanks for the tip.
I'm pretty hopeless myself at the TV, so I might try that stuff next time I'm feeling adventurous and decide to jump in a gunship. In that round with Brutus I missed all kinds of supposedly "easy" shots with the TV, but I also did hit occasionally, some because of miraculously sudden skill where I felt like I knew what I was doing the whole way, and most because it was 100% fluke. Also, there were quite a few times where I'd thought I had hit, and yet no indicator showed up, and sometimes I thought I'd missed, and the indicator came up. Anything weird and off-centre about TV missile aiming I should know about? Or was I just imagining things?Anger is a gift - Malcolm X

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
I've never been able to figure out if TV missiles cause the alarms to go off in a vehicle you're aiming at.
I wouldn't think so, but WAY too often have I had targets, blind to the incoming missile, under no enemy attack at all, throw up their shields the EXACT second the missile impacts.

The TV is a pain to aim, but I will say that it is a great feeling when you miss your target yet get the guy hiding in the storage boxes as a consolidation prise instead.
That was just hilarious. He never saw it coming...

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
Awesome. I flew yesterday and did a barrel roll. I got stuck upside down and could not flip back. I hopped out and realized I spent 30 seconds flying upside down. Not bad for a noob pilot.

I'm getting better, that's all that matters in my opinion.

Re: New respect for Gunship Pilots
The gunship takes quite a bit to get used to. I´m more of a gunner myself, I have a nasty habit of flying into trees and such. xD
