Re: Teamates
When the 5th JTF was here it was pretty much the rule that the SL hangs back and that was the tactic. It wasn't the SLs job to lead in the front.. moreover, they where the conduit in coordination with the CO.
We would also split into Alpha and Bravo fireteams Alpha could be the typical assault or defensive fireteam and Bravo could have the SL and support/medic squad members.
Its enough work for the SL to keep the squad moving cohesively and communicating with other SLs and/or the CO to add on there the pressure of being in the spot to pick up the first bullet.. nahh. SLs need to keep their brains free to generate a tactic to achieve results.
If an SM doesn't want to SL, and doesn't want an SL that won't be his meatshield.. they can leave and join another squad. If they are in your squad - your word goes.. not theirs.. if they don't like it they can leave.. if they don't leave and complain.. kick 'em from your squad.
Time, technique, and style will get you a decent following of SMs dying to be in your squad.
Well.. maybe dying is a poor choice of words..

Re: Teamates
Well, it does depend on the situation. In instances where I am trying to deploy my squad behind enemy lines yes, I am going to lead from the front because my squad will spawn on me. In a lot of cases I hang back and let the squad move up - but I also don't want my squadmembers feeling like they are doing all the work. Sometimes you have to set an example and lead the charge. It all depends.

Re: Teamates
is there a way to report players ingame? for instance, is there a way to report a player for orbitals on uncaps, or spawnkilling other than the forums?

Re: Teamates
RUDEBOY: There are lots of convenient ways to report someone for an infraction.
1) IMO, the easiest is in Teamspeak. If you're in Teamspeak, just make a simple report. If an Admin's on, they'll acknowledge the report and take it from there. Say something like, "Rudeboy reporting [SOLDIERNAME] for [INFRACTION.]" Simple.
2) Sometimes the admins aren't in Teamspeak. If that's the case (or if you prefer typing to talking,) type "REPORTING: [USERNAME] for [INFRACTION]" in the global (or squad or team) chat. The admins will look for reports in the logs and take action.
3) Finally, if either of those things doesn't work for you, you could always PM one of the admins.
BUT... before you start reporting, make sure the person you're reporting is breaking our rules. You can read those here. And here is a great thread on reporting you should read.
Thanks for working to make our servers better!

Re: Teamates
After squad leading for a while, I've been commanding. I command because no one else will, usually. My team has been winning lately....
Also I've been reporting a lot of people lately, on my team and on the enemy's. Maybe it's because I play too much...

Re: Teamates
Yeah.. thats not a bad thing.. I speak up like [our] style was an ultimatum.. but sometimes it is the SL's creativity that rocks the round.
The more experience you have with the basics the more comfortable you will be all around. So if you are having difficulty (not you Vortex) getting your hands around it.. work the basics until you can bark them through your mic without thinking.

Re: Teamates
Yeah.. there is.. do some searches and go back about 8 or 9 months.. search BF2.. not just 2142.
You'll probably also find tactics and strategy for BF2 that you can learn from for 2142. Also check the AAR's for past scrims and read the breakdowns of what happened... and how we won
