Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I'm occasionally bad about not following CO orders while squad leading, though if I refuse an order, I will explain it over VoIP to the CO. Generally, they're pretty understanding.
I never got into the habit of bunnyhopping, TG having basically been my first server, but I have come very, very close to forgetting where I was and laying motion mines in the enemy UCB before. Other than that (and I don't mean to gloat), I've managed to create some very good habits that keep me honest and within the rules. It really is all about the habits.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I've pretty much always played in the TG spirit, so never found myself bunnyhopping. Sure, there's been times where I've jumped a railing to get to a flag or behind cover, but I know I won't/shouldn't get called out for that.
My biggest problem is disobeying CO orders. I try to explain to them the situation and help them see the bigger picture if they're newer/not tasking the squads correctly. Usually pays off and they listen, adapt, and learn.

I've pulled the knife a couple of times too many, but it's all good fun usually.
Disobey'ing CO orders is usually justified when there is no communication and only attack orders that sends the whole team to the same flag (sounds famililar???) are given.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I don't SL much yet, but I've been in plenty of squads where our leader will disregard CO orders. There's just too many times where you may be on Pond, and the CO orders you to Monorail or something where it makes absolutely no sense, and is logistically impossible for the squad to even get there in a timely manner anyway. Not sure how strictly the follow CO orders rule is enforced, but that rule is just not possible to follow every single time without putting your squad and the game in jeopardy. Communicating that to the CO is a must though.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
My usual procedure is to tell the CO what I'm intending to do with my squad, how I'm intending to do it, and why running across half the map might be a bad idea. If they still want me to fulfill the order, I ask them to send it again (unless they're the 1 in 10 that has voice, at which point I'll ask them for clarification). They usually don't, or just order me to do whatever it was I was already planning on doing. If they do, though, then I try to complete the order, though often times slowly.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I've hopped a few times by mistake and like everyone else here I make sure to let the guy have the kill. Sadly, I'm pretty bad about not following CO orders sometimes. I gotta break that habit even if the CO order is insane.
I've also done the same kind of stuff to my fellow Mercs that fredgwynne mentioned, but I don't feel bad about that at all.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I've clicked the wrong squad and set an attack command at the other side of the map whilst they are in mid battle for a control point, and I remember the instant disapproval over VOIP to be quite funny.. My mistake!
I also think a commander should check to see what the squad is actually doing before setting his command. I wasn't squad leading, but on Wake our plan was to grab as much armor as possible and spread around the island holding all control points, which was working fairly well. Then we lose Core, so commander sets every Squad to attack it. I'm suddenly now SL, my squad is all NGs and the commander can see this (if he wanted to) So ok, I'll follow orders, and we were no help by time we all got there, and within minutes, we lost half the control points on both sides. I will argue my case next time, I'm just being a big softie!Last edited by PM..; 07-31-2008 at 03:30 PM. Reason: Not finished

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
My biggest problem with rule breaking is the CO to SL communication line. There are far too many times that I'll be given an order that simply doesn't make sense. Granted, when I SL, if I'm not moving between flags, or in a firefight, I have the squad window open so that I can see the entire map and what's going on where. So I SL like I'm a CO without the assets. Alot of times when I get a CO command, first thing I do is check the map, and about 62.4% of the time the order endangers the squads goal for the round. I've stated before and I'm sticking with it, I refuse to follow CO orders if I personally think the situation is tactically stupid. If upon explaining my situation and point of view to the commander, they inform me of what exactly they see that I don't, I will often comply. It's just too often you have a CO who wants all offense in situations where defense is called for. =(
Other than that, I've gotten alot better with suppressing the bunny hopping instinct. The only other rule I break would be occasionally swearing on VoIP when things get out of hand and frustrating.

I remember one SL told me I was assigning terrible orders so that's why I don't bug Squad Leads as much as I used to.

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
I get hit by this all the time when trying to jump over walls. The worst is trying to jump over the walls of the buildings on berlin. It usually takes me 3-4 jumps to get over (yes, I suck THAT bad) and i've been called out as a bunnyhopper by people trying to shoot me from behind as im trying to get over the wall. I've actually talked to people who have said I was bunnyhopping and the conversation was something like this:
Me: I was jumping to get over the wall.
Them: I saw you, you had your back to me and kept jumping, thats bunnyhopping.
Me: If my back was to you, how am I supposed to know you were shooting at me?
Them: Doesnt matter, you were still bunnyhopping.
Me: *sigh*

Re: You know you break the rules...admit it!
Yep I have that same problem, especially over small crates and fences. If I get caught bunny hopping doing that, I'd say "Why didn't you give me a boost then?!?!?"

That was you!? I was standing right next to you.... I almost knifed you to get even, but that would've made me +1........
My confession:
I was running up the west side hill to command center on Cerbere when I got spooked and jumped over an enemy and kept running. I was mowed down (shot in the back!) and it was called out in team speak. I confessed and all was forgiven. Thank you who ever you were.
