Re: Default controls versus User set
I started playing games back in the Doom days when you only needed forward, backward, strafe, and shoot. As games have required more controls I have adapted the original layout, but always kept it based around the original setup:
Mouse
R Mouse: Move Forward
L Mouse: Fire
C Mouse: Sprint
Keyboard
S: Strafe Left
D: Jump
F: Strafe Right
Space: Move Back
W: ComRose 1
Q: Reload
V: Crouch
C: Prone
All of the other key functions center around these 9 keys. Everyone calls me crazy when the look into my lazy eye, but they work pretty good for me. I have thought about getting the Nostromo more than once, but I've never made the plunge.

Re: Default controls versus User set
Besides, mousewheeel = rifle zoom.
I keep mostly default, except swapping around VoIP. I relegate TS voip to the 3rd mouse button, because it's out of the way, but convenient enough to reach and use. -yet the 3rd button itself on my particular mouse, is positioned in such a way that I can't reach it quickly enough to really use it for much else.
I don't see much advantage from customizing the keys beyond that, based on my play-style. Which I guess is just fast and loose anyhow.
I've looked at the gaming pads more than a few times, but I just can't rationalize a good enough reason to buy one for myself. The keyboard suffices.

Same here, I have looked at several versions but have never "made the plunge".

Re: Default controls versus User set
I didn't for a while; it was WoW--and the fact that everyone I played with used them--that put me over the edge. Arun got a new one for some holiday or other and gave me his old one, so I tried it...and I haven't gone back since.
I have smaller hands and am prone to carpal tunnel, so the Nostromo was a good choice for me.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I use n52 + G5 mouse.
Knife, handgun and AR are mapped to mouse 3rd button and tilt of the scroll wheel for fastest access. The remaining weapons are mapped to the directional pad on n52.
The rest of the keys are standard except for crouch (C), prone (X) and VOIP (Z), settings I got used to playing Quake Wars. Oh, and the jump key acts as shields while in a vehicle.
I've got my Nostromo last Christmas and never looked back. I used to be plagued with wrong weapon selection while using keyboard, now it is not a problem.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I hate using the number keys for weapon selection. I have my knife set to f, weapon 3(your main weapon) is on my G5 mouse(tilt will left), weapon 5(which is my defib) is set to tilt will right. Crouch is one of the side buttons on the mouse and TS is the second side button. Other than that they are the defaults.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I looked at that Nostromo, and here is my opinion: TOO MANY BUTTONS IN TOO LITTLE SPACE. I am surprised that in the heat of battle you don't press the wrong button. Even with my standard keyboard, I find my hands spazzing all over the place when trying to react to a sudden enemy. I've had points where I've pressed EVERY weapon key EXCEPT my main weapon when trying to fight someone. I ended up defib killing them because I simply couldn't find the "3" key with my left hand >.<
My keyboard layout is pretty much the defaults, although I have prone set to 'c' and shields set to 'x'. Only other thing is I changed my mouse sensitivity to about 1.4... I can't stand a slow-moving reticle when sniping.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I'm on my second Nostromo n52, couldn't game without it (I tried and failed miserably). I basically rebound everything to suite the controllers layout. I also invert my mouse and set the thumb button to VoIP, works great.

I use the Zboard with keyboard inlay for the game> I also use the logitech G5 programable mouse. I love both.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I've been thinking of buying that Logitech keyboard with a 2142 key set.....anyone ever used one like that?
