Re: Default controls versus User set
You can manually change key maps by editing the following file. You are looking for Controls.con It is in your "My Documents" Folder under Battlefield 2142\Profiles\0001
Now at first it looks like a big jumbled mess but it is actually quite organized. It is separated into the different control schemes for air, land, and general. You are looking for the line that reads:
ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap
Thats the general control map. The very last line of the general on mine is the squad VOIP. It reads:
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIVoipPushToTalk IDFMouse IDButton_3 0 0
That means that my "GI" VOIP push to talk is mapped on the mouse at button 3. If you want it changed to the keyboard "V" key then there are a few things you need to change.
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIVoipPushToTalk IDFKeyboard IDKey_V 0 0
We changed IDFMouse to IDFKeyboard to tell the game that it's looking at the keyboard. The IDButton was changed to IDKey because the keyboard has keys not buttons.
In the end replace what ever is there for your default VOIP to:
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIVoipPushToTalk IDFKeyboard IDKey_V 0 0
and that should change your key mapping. Have fun.

Re: Default controls versus User set
Has anyone tried the N52 TE. Last year I was really really looking forward to getting one of these, but have read some reviews that it may not be worth the extra cash. Opinions?

Re: Default controls versus User set
Looks just like the n52, only with pretty lights. I use a basic n52, and I love it. (I believe I posted about it somewhere in the last four pages of this thread, but I can't remember.)

Re: Default controls versus User set
I've heard that the new TE edition does not import the older model's profiles, that's one major reason for me not to upgrade anytime soon. Other than that, some buttons are supposed to be smoother like jump and the big red button while others are rumored to be overly sensitive. I do need to get yet another n52 since my jump key has not been working too good for the last few months...

Re: Default controls versus User set
I've seen them in a few brick and mortar stores, but they felt awkward. The n52 never really felt that way.
To anyone thinking of getting one a word of caution: There is a learning curve to it, you can't just plug it in and expect your kills to go through the roof. But, after a few days of playing with it and customizing the profile to do what you want it to do (the default load sucks imho) you won't be able to go back to a standard keyboard again - I've tried.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I switched C for crouch and X for prone. Thats about it. Been using the same setup since Battlefield 1942 and other games that have prone on them.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I've got the N52. It's just awesome. I use it in all games although it's most useful in twitch games like 2142.

Re: Default controls versus User set
Orignally had C as Crouch but the fact I couldn't use my index finger while crouching for grenades (f), weapons 4 and upwards, reloading, entering/exiting vehicles, Commo Rose (B), switching kits (G- is that default I can't remember) was a problem, but I was used to it from my few days of CoD2, but those few days were enough to get me used to C as Crouch. Just changed recently to left Control, which is much better. Changed VoIP to thumb button as well since holding V had the same effect on my lack on index finger for play.
Say All -> Say Squad = J -> L
Commo Rose -> Squad Rose -> CO talk = B -> M
Q-Spot is B-spot for me, works a treat having communication on the other side of the board and just in a straight line.Anger is a gift - Malcolm X
