Default controls versus User set
How do most of you have your keyboard and other controls setup?
My first real FPS was Tribes 1, and I used the 4 arrow keys, and surrounding keys to play. When I started playing BF1942, then COD4, and now 2142, I set them up the same way that I played Tribes. I've been playing 2142 for quite a long time now with this keyboard setup, but things like weapons selection, pick-up packs, etc. I've left default, and I'm really starting to notice I have a slight delay any time I have to reach across the keyboard to hit '5' then back to '3', or 'G', etc.. Last night I changed my Infantry keyboard commands back to default simply because I'm out of good key locations near the 4 arrow keys to add more, and played around for a bit on Single Player. So far, going prone and crouching are my only real hiccups, but switching weapons and to defib and back have gotten noticeably faster.
So I was just curious what everyone else is doing or has any suggestions?|TG-55| Infantry Division - Captain

Re: Default controls versus User set
I reinstalled about a month ago and didn't change a lot of my user set ones back to being as they were. My most useful one at the moment is having 3 on my mouse so that I can get my gun back out or go to single shot easily.

I have a wheel mouse with a total of 7 buttons. Fire and zoom being main two, others are weapons 3-7

Nostromo n52 all the way. Playing without it would drive me nuts.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I'm with Aretha on this one. I actually just bought a second Nostromo so I have different key mappings for each of the infantry kits, one for vehicles, and one for command. It's probably excessive, but so was Led Zeppelin. So there you go.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I'm about 90% default, I just switched around the crouch and prone buttons to be easier to reach, that of course switched a few other minor things around as well, but all the weapons, comment rose things like that are the same... Also I have some extra buttons on my mouse that I use for weapon 3 and I think right now 7 but I also set it once or twice to 1... Then I realized I SUCK at knifing...

Mousewheel FTL. I have hotkeys on the base set for weapon switching (top row second and fourth keys, bottom row middle key) and a separate shift for vehicles. The only things I use my thumb for are jump (the large thumb key), comms (VoIP is the red button on the side), and toggling the vehicle shift.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I use the default except for the VOIP and crouch. My VOIP is on my trackball(yes, I use one) and my crouch is Control. I'm thinking about moving my commander VOIP to the other side of my trackball or my fire selection.

Re: Default controls versus User set
The best change I made has been changing the console command window to the delete key.

Re: Default controls versus User set
I switched crouch to F, and crawl to c. And moved stuff around so that would work.

Re: Default controls versus User set
crouch to "F" eh? Thats different. I used Ctl because I can still access all my movement controls whilst crouched.

Re: Default controls versus User set
Have 18 macro keys on the left of keyboard but only use about 4 of them for zoom mini-map, toggle drivers view(2 keys) and going prone, the rest are the default keys, I mainly just moved the ones that are hardest to reach, where you would have to take your hand off the mouse or reach over with your left hand or extremly long finger.
