Re: Wake Island 2142
I just think it's too big most times. As was stated earlier it can go on forever even with full teams. It's one of those maps that me, as a squad leader that likes to cap flags, fall asleep as we repetitively run to beach and then to that village and...oops...they got beach. So back to beach and then...oh...they took village..ok, back to...they got office too? Ok then, back to...TANK!!! Could I get an engi...BOOM!!! *sigh*

Re: Wake Island 2142
The other reason I play it is to get time and kills with the titan AA guns.

Re: Wake Island 2142
It's the onyl map where I lag (acception of the titan map when the titan are close to each other) and this give me a reason to take break when it shows up in the rotation.

Re: Wake Island 2142
The map is really fun with a coordinated squad. It takes a little change in the way you normally think of things. I've tried playing it the way I've grown to know it it just doesn't work. A highly co-ordinated team can make the round go super quick (not that that's any different than other maps, of course).
Anyone who's been in my squads on Wake knows my strategies to keep the game fun. Because Core is so necessary to the game, and there's so many avenues of attack, I always attack Core the whole time. Once it's taken we defend it. The other team always comes for it. If we're EU to begin with, we set up defenses there and hold off the enemy team as long as we can. The team that controls Core and CDock the most will win the round. PAC can have the rest of the flags, but if EU holds those 2 flags, EU will most likely win. With a co-ordinated squad manning the Titan AA guns, with engineers and SAAW and replacement gunners (in case of sniper/tank fire from long range) to stop transports coming in. A squad in the titan to prevent sneaking past CDock. And a squad or two at CDock itself to defend that flag, you can win the round by letting the other team have everything else, and they'll be FORCED to come to you.
Sorry, rambling again =(. I voted for liking it. =)

Re: Wake Island 2142
It can be a fun map and it can be the LAST map I ever want to play again. I agree that it is one that needs good teamwork, but more then anything it is a hard map to play. I also hate being the EU on that map, it's hard to get anything done once the PAC take central dock...

I will agree with you by saying that I have had some awesome rounds on our server. However, most rounds I'm in even on our server get boring. That being said, if I have a good squad behind me it is a blast.

I don't like it, too much stuff crammed into one map...

Re: Wake Island 2142
You can't win unless you take the Titan and the several times I've played as a Commander it's been nearly impossible to get everyone on the same page. Most people, myself included up until a week or so ago didn't understand how important that single flag is. We have a lot of people that are playing this game for their score and don't really care about winning the round or what it takes to accomplish that.
I've been playing this game long enough that my score doesn't really concern me anymore. I'd like to actually win a few games which seems to be a rarity these days. Anyhow, as a map it seems rather interesting but I have to agree with Zohar that it's too restrictive. Why have all of that armor if you can't even maneuver around? Tampa, Verdun, and one other map, can't think of it are the only other maps with that much armor and they are much bigger by comparison.
Like many of the older TG'ers I've gotten accustomed to playing infantry only maps so I kind of suck with armor. I can't fly a gunship for crap and if I get a kill it's only because I crashed into someone. Maybe it's just that the infantry biased folks, like myself, aren't comfortable with the vehicle centric maps. I don't know but personally I could do without the map.
Someone else mentioned how complicated it is and that it's only fun if you have a capable commander and a good team. Don't expect to win the round if your team isn't working together. Whereas the defending team....not sure if it's PAC, can practically play half-hearted and still pull off a win. That to me reaks of inbalance. I don't expect the map to be "fair" but it could at least be balanced and I don't see how Wake Island is balanced. It heavily favors the defending team.

Re: Wake Island 2142
For the record - this is the map that made me give up on BF2 online
I remember spawning and being immediately bombarded by aircraft which also immediately eliminated any AA - but thats BF2 and before I found TG
I have to agree there is far too little landmass given the number of vehicles, which is disproportionate and hinders tactics.
On the other hand it does provide for tactical variation which mixes things up a bit - I have noticed that on Infantry Only maps many are unprepared for the shift in tactics and face a learning curve - the same is true for wake with its narrow land mass.
My only real complaint is the 'serious' lag I get in the core - 5 fps is too low for me to game effectively.
Oh and that Land Bridge you guys are talking about ? Its there, just dont try to land a transport on it ... and that seems like a bug if you ask me.

I've watched a tank do it too. You can see if from a distance if you look at the right spot.

Any ground based vehicle can get across the land brigde. I have taken both tanks, buggies, and everything else. Taking the hover tank across sucks... you cannot turn it for anything.

Apparently so. I think it is silly but it sinks.
