Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
Last night while Squad 3 is leading the defense on the Titan Aumen was off in is transport hoping from silo to silo avoiding AA. But even with the loud roar of AA whizzing by all I freaking hear is a pub commander screaming his head off about someone glitching the titan. I felt bad for him, but I knew he had a competent TG squad leader there own defense already setup and waiting. Then 2mins maybe less the game was over….. PAC wins and my Titan falls to the ground.
After the round I talked to the Titan TG Def SL who was setup and ready… He had no way to defend as his console blew up on him (no enemy in sight) and I think even killed him. By the time he pulled it back together it was pretty much over.
At the end of the match the pub commander says “I don’t come to play on TG servers where people use glitches to win.”
For now I see his point. While I agree it could add some interest to the game, it lacks the certain reality. A reality we strive for in here in TG, a certain realism and fairness of play. I don’t want to break out the primer, but maybe that is what we need to fall back on in this case.
And I still have not seen any EA link to the issue and even if there is a link saying it is not a glitch, is bunny hopping a glitch?
Also I wanted to bring this issue out to the main forum because I believe it goes beyond tactics and it seems many people don’t look at the tactic forum. Please check out the thread in the tactic forum if you have not already and put in your two cents worth, this is mine. Oh and btw well done on taking down the Titan, it was a very close match till that point.
Cheers,

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
The console controls the shield -- overload the console, shield goes down. Overload the shield, console goes down.
I don't understand where this "lack of simulation" comment comes from.
Worse still, I would vote that the previous setup -- consistently and unrelentigly detonating explosives on a small and confined part of an airship -- is highly un-realistic. This new setup forces the defenders to control the titan and the cargo bay instead of simply unloading clips of ammo down Corridors 1 and 2.
But that's not really what we're addressing here at all. Too many pubbies have learned that they can match the skill and intellect of *anyone* in this game by throwing frags and rockets down a certain corridor on the titan. And now they're whining because they need to work with their squad and defend the cargo bay properly.
Tough luck. This is what Zho feels like while using C4 and USAS-12: link.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
When this issue was brought up for the first time I was rather ambivalent about it but on further thought I decided there is nothing wrong with it. In my opinion it actually improves the game as it forces the defending team to do something beside rocket and grenade spamming like Zhohar said.
The defending team has the option of moving the defense forward to deny attackers access to the corridors and shields or of splitting the defense between two consoles on one side of a titan. If the defense is split between two consoles then even if the first console goes down due to shield overload then the first rush can be easily stopped by the defenders of the second console while the other part of the defending squad eliminates the attackers from behind.
As to the realism argument: we already accept that the titan's shields can be brought down by overloading them with multiple strikes from the rockets launched from the silos. If these, much more potent, shields can be brought down then why not the shields protecting consoles?

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
In my opinion, the whole concept of attacking the titan is flawed. While exciting in the first times you played the game mode, the novelty value of running to escape the titan wears off, and the blandness of the fighting on the titan is resonant. They really needed to take some tips off unreal tournament or a game like that, where its objective based game modes have real excitement.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
Pherhaps you misunderstood - it is not the "lack of simulation" as I think the commander would have been happy to work agianst this tactic if it was a known and played tactic. The commanders reality is that you have to get down the hall and blow up the consoles. Otherwise if the consoles blow up by themselves, it is a glitch to him - i.e. his perception of reality of the game.
What I am addressing here is fairness of play with a respect to those pubbies that come to play on our server becuase the TG server holds those standards of fairness of play. For now I simply cannot see how this tactic can be considered fair play when so few people know about and TG is unentioninally exploiting there lack of knowledge and in doing so is refining the tactic.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
Well, is it fair for people to sit in a corridor spamming grenades and rockets, adding zero tacticalness, or is it more interesting, exciting, and realistic, for a squad to be able to blow up a small shield with massive rounds that kill tanks in one hit? The Support shield can be blown up, the titan shield can be blown up, why not a corridor shield?
A couple things could have happened. 1) Tell pubbie CO that in fact you can destroy the corridor shields with 14 pilum rounds, and it is known. 2) Tell pubbie CO that he should visit our forum!
As for bunny hopping, it is the same mechanic as dolphin diving, it messes up your hit-box.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
Well said Unload:+) I think you have very well summed up the fact that it is more realistic, as Zhohar has been doing and I don't disagree, point taken, it is more interesting and your right also right in respect "telling the commander... etc" should happen in the future if this is a tactic TG is going to continue to play.
And bunny hopping may be the same mechanic as dolphin diving but you don't often see people going around dolphin diving all the way across the map as you do see people bunny hop their way across it. They are two different beasts.
What I am trying to accomplish here is clarity and I don't have a particular opinion on the matter except that it still remains an ominous to me - Is this going to be played on the server and is it fair to all those who come to play on our server for a fun and challenging time.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
If you think about it.. a proper defense of the titan would only involve the defense squad spamming said rockets and grenades down hallway 4 instead of hallway 2. So, when they overload the shield, tada.. got a wall of explosives already waiting. Not so hard imo.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
This is a tactic that is all or nothing, meaning if we what to use it on our server we need to educate the masses on its use and it's effectiveness. That said: "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Unload again." I think Unload hit it on the head for me. I know there are some that dislike this tactic, I'll admit I think it is cheap, but it is a thousand times better then three people rocket spamming the corridor and killing off an entire team.
Some have said that it is a choke point that as in any map is hard to break, but every choke point in this game really has at least three points to run through. (Example Care Bear; Toll: High Rt, High Lt, Ground... Ruins: High Lt, Center, and Rt Hall Way... Minsk Conquest; UCB: Rt, Lt, Center)
Think about it every map has three point of entry. The core has two point of entry, with the shield tactic it has four depending on how you look at it. When defended the Titan is still a hard point to take. This will ultimately force people to defend the Titan not the corridors.
For those who don't already know 14 shots of the pilum to corridors 3 and 4 shields will destroy the consoles 1 and 2 respectively. This only works with the pilum, no other weapons will work.
There is another member I know of that says that in all fairness if we can blow the shields then we should be able to repair them. Yes in all reality we should, but in terms of game mechanics that would break the game, because at that point you should be able to repair the Titan as well... The game would never end.
In the end this is something that I support, and unless EA says it is a glitch, I will continue to us it as needed.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
For the whole " needs more than spamming rockets " argument.. what do you want?! i mean would it be fair if one attacking squad requires 2 defending squads? that would mean the attacking team has the advantage that they only need one squad to keep two squads busy.. so they also have an advantage on the ground cause the have more units down there. and unrealistic that you can use grenades and rockets in the corridor? .... you can´t even really damage a tank with that stuff.. so why should the hurt the titan?
I was the defending SL last night.. and to be honest... i didn´t stand a chance against it. sure i could have made it.. but i didn´t.
Why? Pretty easy to explain... i was splitting my squad in the corridors like i learned it... after a push on console one and two... there where silence for a short while. i was wondering what they aer doing. i saw some dots on the minimap but i beliefed they are on the top of our titan and regrouping.. so i was waiting another few seconds... realising that the are not moving anymore.. you have to hear very closly and it have to be totally silence to hear someone shooting with the pillum if your sitting in a corridor.. i heard one shot and was all like " OH SH*** i´ve read about that... " and just i the moment i realized what they are doing.. the console was already down. 14 shoots? with a 6 man squad.. so everyone have to shot twice and then 2 additional shots and that thing is down.. pretty fast for a reaction. i just made it up to the main hangar and was mowed down instantly. no the defender had to came out from these small corridors to face the attacker.. and are easy targets.
the game was over.. the re-spawn time was enough to destroy another console and the breached into the reactor core. So i told my squad to leave the titan cause that game was over.
I spend half of the next game explaining to the commander and other puppies in my squad that it´s not cheating or glitching. that they should take a look in the forum and please complain here if there is anything they want to say about that.. but i didn´t like the tactic either.. cause the advantage is on the attacker side.. and that should not be in my opinion.
so these where my two cent
i hope no one feel offended right now, cause this is no offend against any of you.
cheers

Good Re-cap Black-Mirror
I also spent a lot of time explaining what hap to the pubs. It is going to take a lot of energy if we want the wimpering to stop
Maybe we could post something for a short period of time on the startup page, maybe not?

No problem. I don´t mind that extra work. I ´m not willing to let any " TG are using glitches to win " arguments left in the room.
Also nice done while taking the titan down. you should have seen my face while that.
cheers

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
I think Zhohar said it best, and this is all pretty new to me as I have not experienced it in-game yet, but to reduce the amount of titan defenders who just sit and nade/rocket spam is a good thing. Unless EA does something about it, it's going to add an interesting new element to titan attacking, and until they do it should be allowed.
Now that I am informed I shall spread the word to the pubbies on TG if it comes up.

Re: Titan, Pilums, Destroying consoles and bears oh my!
The best part of TG is defending the unexpected. Make people think on their toes and make new grounds of tactics.
Dont get me wrong, It a great thing when people can think outside the box and develope mew ways to win. Defence has a supurb advantage in the right hands. It doesnt take much in titan. This adds a element and alternitive to the entire battle equation.
TG isn't about preidicting the enemy; Thats not very realistic about war now is it?
