    TG ever upgrade from teamspeak?

Let's face it - Teamspeak isn't great. It's clunky, it's got a terrible interface, it eats a lot more bandwidth than most other alternative programs, it's feature-crippled and has terrible setup options, and requires a lousy hit-or-miss 3rd person app to feature an in-game overlay, and it hasn't had a single notable upgrade in four years.

So that said, is it possible TG will ever upgrade from this lackluster application to something entirely more easy to swallow? Or will we just use Teamspeak until the end of times, because it's "how it's always been?"

One alternative I've used in the past and enjoy is Mumble - nearly every feature from Teamspeak you could want, plus built-in overlay - there's also a BF2 plugin (will probably work with 2142 as well) that will make the sound positional based on where the person talking is in-game (theoretically).

Just tired of teamspeak's annoyances, flaws, and in general terrible design.

I host a Ventrilo server running the highest end codec that works on Macs and PCs if we wanna test run a couple rounds on that. It's a 100 slot server that at most has about 50 on it when my friend runs a WoW raid party, or whatever it's called.

Lemme know if we wanna run a beta test on there, I wouldn't mind, I don't pay for the bandwidth, only the slots! xD

TS isn't great no, but I don't think Vent has the integration options into the forum that TS has.

TS isn't the best, but as DrunkenPirate said; it has the integration, security, and scalability that we need. I've got my own issues with TS2 and am patiently waiting out the release of TS3.

Interesting, I didn't consider the web integration.

    TS is neatly organized.
It's interface is simple and intuitive.
It doesn't eat up any noticeable amount of bandwidth.
It has all the features I would want, and they are easily found and activated.
Setup options and straight-forward and effective.
Game overlay will be slow with any TS-like application unless you can build on nVidia graphics code.
    It doesn't require an upgrade.

It's done it's job simply, effectively, correctly, and without taking up any noticeable resources.

I'm not sure where your complaints stem from, but the vast majority of people I've spoken are, at the very least, not annoyed by TS, and most of them actually like it.

Mmm, only issue I've ever had with it is it jumping which channels are displayed when people connect. Other than that, couldn't really ask for anything else. Having my G15's screen displaying who's talking is a nice plus though.

There's a plugin you can install that shows the channel you are, how many people, who's joining/leaving, and will show whoever is talking. The buttons under the LCD will allow you to mute sound, mute you're mic, or go AFK.

    You can get it here:

The simple question I would have to contrast this: have you ever used Ventrilo, and if so, are you comparing it to this?

I use that plug in as well. It works great. I use it in conjunction with TSO though.

Go set up the auto-connect feature and tell me that

This is a great add on! Thanks for bringing it up Anospa and while we are on the subject of add-ons; does anyone use any other utilities, etc. while playing?

Good post Uranium - It is nice to know what else is out there and that we have other options. However I am also patiently awaiting TS-3, does anyone know of possible release date?

    Cheers,
    A

SO true, this is the only thing in TS that annoys me as well.

I usually like to just keep 2142, main lobby, and the IHS channels open to see who might be playing 2142 but not in main channel.

aside from current TS usage, I've only ever used TS and to some degree, Ventrilo, on MMOs... so... I'd like to see where this thread is headed if for anything, to get some education out of it.
