    commander comm

I enjoy being commander. However, I find that I'm not sure how the comm keys work. I understand that B comms all squads and V comms selected squads. What I haven't been able to figure out is whether the comm works while you are in the command screen. If someone can shed some light on this, that would be excellent. Thanks.

Yep--it works all the time while you're commanding. I don't think the icon comes up where you can see it when you're in the command screen, though.

If you're not sure people can hear you, ask for a mic check from your squads. Ask them to hit the "page up" key if they don't have mics, themselves.

Oh yeah it works... As CO I almost never leave my command screen... A lot will depend on your SL's like Arithea said, some are very talkative, others silent.

I do have one question on topic though I can't seem to remember how to select the voice over for a squad, you know the 'Squad your a top notch crew' comments that a CO can send to a squad. I can't seem to find the button for that as of late.

I must be going crazy again...

It's up in the top left of the screen. Theres a little (what I assume to be) radio icon next to each squad. IF you click on the you can select which VO you want to send.

The lack of an icon is really annoying. I wish that the squad who was speaking would light up in the squad list at the top left. I regularly get VOIP requests or reports from squads but have no idea who actually said it. I end up having to ask the entire to team to repeat the order and to prepend their squad number.

Just a question for any squad leaders who work with me in the future, I don't recognise most of you by voice so please, please save yourselves the trouble of having to repeat yourself and always state your squad number as part of your message / request.

Has anybody else found that selecting squad numbers by pressing the corresponding number on the keyboard doesn't always work and requires repeated key presses?

As you press the number there should be a visual change on the map screen. The selected squad should change from green to white or vice versa

I second this. I started doing this as a Squad leader when I realised how difficult it was as a commander to know who was speaking. Most of the time, I find my SL's have done this though.. "Excellent work squad!"

Actuality, in the command screen, the dot on the mini map of whatever SL is talking to you blinks. So if squad 1 asks for supplies, the little green 1 on your mini map that shows where SL 1 is flashes. It's not the best, but learning to spot that it makes life easier. However, personally as SL I general try to follow the SitRep guidelines to make it easier for the CO. Generally, when talking to command I will start off by saying something like "Com, squad 2..."

As for selecting squads, I noticed that in order to switch squads by key command, you need to be in your command screen, and you cannot have any assets selected. Meaning if you have the UAV selected but have not placed it yet (your mouse icon will look like a UAV icon) you cannot switch squads until you have used the asset or deselected it (mouse back to normal arrow). This is kind of a pain in the butt when you are trying to coordinated 3 squads at once while dropping supplies and EMPing and Orbitaling an enemy, but if you know the tricks it is not that bad. Quick tip, when selecting squads in your command screen, you can select multiple squads using the by holding down the CTRL key and clicking more than one squad.
