    Gunships.

Hello, I'm Tigerblitz and lately I have been wanting to learn how to use a gunship. Wether it be flying or gunning, so will some be willing to take me under the wing and teach me how to fly?

I was not sure were to post so I thought I'd post here. My ingame name is |TG|Tigerblitz, and I look forward on learing how to fly.

When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No one has ever collided with the sky.

The only time you have too much fuel is if you're on fire.

The three most useless things to a pilot are the altitude above you, runway behind you, and a tenth of a second ago.

It's always a good idea to keep the pointy end going forward as much as possible.

Thanks Eroak - I've gotten into the habit of bookmarking all of these great theory gems that aren't already stickied...

Honestly with all the SOP material and general tactics posts there could be a book written on 2142 TG-style.

    Talking Re: Gunships.

first of all il be reading that link myself when i get home ;P [at work atm]

but as for learning to fly better, practice in sandbox mode [one player], try and steer faster, and turn as quickly as possble, set computer player's to idiot mode, and practice lots, once you have the steering figured out ((dont try loop de loops yet)) try landing as fast as possible on landing pads withought crashing or over flying.

once thats been mastered try flying as low as you can dodging buildings, and making runs between your landing zone and theres, if that gets too easy, set the enemys to hardest possible and do it again, once you have that masterd, try using the main gunship position and taking out tanks, again whilst moving as low as possible and on hardest difficulty,

once you have that nailed down, try turning in mid air instantly and stopping around building corners and hovering, once you can turn yourself around neaer instantly and wait in ambush youl have mastered the basics of flying a gunship.

for loop de loops, go to one player mode [sandbox] and stick it on medium diff, go as high as u can withought stalling, and then pull back as much as you can, ((set sensitivity to max ofc)) but once your facing up let go of accelerate, and let your own momentum pull your nose around, tilt to left or right and gentle point yourself at the horison, if your sideways and still tilting it will auto-right you, DONT freak out and pull against it to wright yourself because you will stall and plummet half a 1000 feet before u can right yourself, practice tweaking your sensitvty and tech, untill you get it suited for yourself.

[this is a very effective method of evasion, and although not the best way to do it, it is the easiest method to learn and is quite effective at fleeing mid-level players]

to fight real players, there is usualy, as no doubt like the link above guides to fight equal players or ones to tell you how best to destroy, i prefere to simplift it, if there better than you, and i mean a lot better dont attempt loop de loops to flee, call for backup or an engi with a saww and fly as low and as fast as possible dodging between buildings, if there realy good and your not getting into mid air, is suicide, most of the time there used to dispatching mid level players in mid air, half the players i know cant kill me if i fly close to the ground, quite simply there not used to it, just watch out for lamps and such, they dont draw to far away at top speed so try and know where they are.

if there semi good, just fly past instant turn, and fire 1 missle, theyl shield, and fire back, u shield, weather the hits, fly beneath, theyl try and run, empty your whole barrel into em and theyl die, in armor its almost reflex for normal players to defend first shot so exploit this, fire one missle and waste there shields, and for the love of god gunners dont chain gun somone untill AFTER The missles hit when there first attacked, other wise its a waste of good stealth.

if there crap, dont kill em
put preasure on em, and keep em in the air, realy bad players alone, can be a great help to your side, just hit em with a little chain, theyl panic and heal up, quoting an old clan buddy's saying "the more crap in the air, the less the shi* hits the fan."

simply put bad pilots cripple games, if you arent seeing streams of kills from talons then you need a better pilot ;P

i myself prefer flying transports, there lethal, two good gunners and 4 engineers, well its a flying turret box ;P sure there slower but there much more manuvarable in good hands,

[[sorry for any poor spelling or typos, i had about 5 mins to write this so i typed real fast :P]]

    Re: Gunships.

Suez is the best map to practice on, because it's... well the only vanilla bot-enabled map with a gunship.

Bridge at Remegen Titan is fun (personally I think that's the most awesome map in 2142 because of this) because it has buildings you can dart between. I can do some really crazy **** in the concrete canyons (I just can't dogfight).

The one thing that you can't prepare for is the lag. After practicing on your own server, you'll notice it right away - the TV missile is 10,000 times harder to aim, the gunship shakes like it's falling apart, and it'll be a bit harder to execute maneuvers as it'll jump around a bit.

true but check your ping 70-110 and you wont get jitters they will, unless you use gunseat, only ever do this with like pinged people with a low average ping overall, the lower YOUR ping the HIGHER your lag will be when others have 140+

also TV-missles are well hard to aim anyway :P just only move em a tiny weeeeny little bit or else ul miss, i prefer the chain gun ;P

My ping on the 2142 server averages 180-200.
