Hello fellow TG. I am thinking about perhaps purchasing 2142 and am asking all of you what its like to go from BF2 to 2142. I used to play BF2 and now mainly ArmA. Lately i have been looking for something that could pass the time here and there and offer some excitement.
Also, will I need the booster pack?

You should get the booster because NS is quite fun, but I'd recommend getting the Deluxe edition because it comes with the booster and costs the same as the regular.

I don't have experience in playing BF2, but they say 2142 is a much faster paced game. If you decide to play though, I'll be looking forward to your trial by fire with our resident ROFLcopter team. =D

Hey Irreg-Comrade.
As Riven already said.. BF2142 is a pretty fast game. You may get a little confused at the beginning but you will find yourself comfortable soon. Fell free to PM me or anybody else if you get any further questions.

I just bought it and am downloading it now. Really interested to see how cranked up the pace is. It's gonna be different switching to something like 2142 after spending hours on ArmA. I am just afraid im gonna drag ArmA tactics into 2142 and get humiliated haha.
could anyone direct me to any necessary patches? I got the deluxe version and am wondering if that comes with all the required patches.

After you install, check the version. The latest is 1.50. If you bought Northern Strike great, if not, hold off on it a bit. 99% of the time we play vanilla 2142. Once you get it installed and patched, get on the Teamspeak channel for 2142 and someone we'll get you aquainted. If not, look me up later today or PM me. 2142 can be intimidating as it plays much faster than Arma or even POe. Don't be discouraged, you just have to learn new muscle memory. Oh, one more thing, rockets are a B!tch

I will attempt to attend this open scrim if punk buster doesn't give me the boot. So, i have spent some time on the TG server, what little time it was because punk buster kept kicking me. I have to say it is one thing that i don't miss since have jumped ship from BF2. Other then that i have to say i really enjoy 2142. The pace is defiantly something i like, something different from my ArmA addiction.
Few things i have to remember:
- This isn't ArmA so i can't conceal myself behind the corner of my building and peak around the corner.... BECAUSE I CAN'T. i kept pressing my "Q" button and nothing happened except something completely different.
- The crouch button is my friend and the available cover makes good use of this position. Also, make use of any available cover because they can stop bullets.
- Checking my zones in ArmA is defiantly useful in 2142. Obtaining a 360 degree picture of your current position allows you to adjust for a more suitable firing position.
Now back to attempting to get more then 6 mins of gameplay on the TG server.

You'll use the Q button a lot on this game. It's used for calling out armors and infantry and such, and for requesting medics and ammo boxes. Pretty helpful for yourself and your team.

If you are suffering PunkBuster problems, try going to http://www.evenbalance.com/ and get a copy of PBSetup. Many people report that this solves their PunkBuster problems. Failing that, search the Technical Support forum, PunkBuster is probably one of the most asked about things on there.
