Ohnos! The ROFLCopter crashed!
As of right now, the 3rd will no longer be using transports for anything other than transports. If you see the roflcopter flying high above, raining death down on everything without regards to capping flags or transporting troops, there will not be a member of the 3rd on board.
In addition, I apologize for past roflcopter transgressions on the part of our members. No, it isn't against the rules. But some rules don't have to be written down, and running a tactic nobody seems able to counter with a complete lack of regard or mercy is one such.
That said, I don't want to get pms or see public whining if you see a member of the 3rd in a transport. We will be using the transport for appropriate transport-and-cap tactics on some maps. We will use the transport's gun in support of such actions. Expect that and deal with it
EDIT TO ADD: If someone from the 3rd does go 108-1 in the transport by running a roflcopter, I do want to hear about it.

Is this rule not in effect against outside squads? (ie. for the TTP match on Sunday)
He was told that he should not kill, and he did not kill, until he got into the Army. Then he was told to kill, and he killed.

I mean... sure i don´t like getting killed like a thousand times in a round by that damn thing... but no need to stop with it... i also don´t like get killed over and over again by Lyra with the walker... but holy baby jebus.. that is skill and should be honored and not forbidden. Sure it is frustrating.. but its war out there. you don´t go over to your enemy and ask nicely " hey my friend.. might it be okay if we use 2 walkers instead of 1 ? i see you get less AT weapons and we may get an advantedge but next time you can have the additional walker "

i´m getting off topic.. sorry but if you guys rock with it.. and you have fun.. then do whatever you like to. play by the rules and rain death upon all foes.. cause thats why you joined the army of 2142 for..

Crux runs the IHS and can set in his own rules as he see fit for his members. The only reguard he take into account is that it doesn't contradict a TG rule or conduct.
kinda like a gentlemen's agreement.
Now that said, I dont want anyone to think this is a absolute rule or anything. The admins decussed this tactic and decided it to be a legit tactic. By all means, fly your transports as gun platforms. I know a few perfect counters and love to make 6 kills in one shot.The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

I appreciate the comments, Mirror. In short, we don't need no stinking roflcopter. It's a crutch on certain maps that isn't making the 3rd better players.

Are you saying you are not going to run the roflcopter because one too many people pm'ed you saying that the 3rd were being meanies and killing them?
If that is true, then you should stop Zho for SL'ing, Ari from using the Pilum, Cado from being a medic, Ano from using a gunship and Reaper from playing the game.
After all they are just too good at it and it is way too hard to counter.
Don't get me wrong, I hate facing the ROFL, I have been killed more times than I can count by reaper and others in the transport of death, but I don't go whining to mommy because I got killed, I pull out my SAW and fire back.
The only way to get better is to play the best. That's one of the reasons I love to play at TG. We have some of the best players in the game here. So personally, I am a little insulted when you say that you are going to take is easy on us because we cannot handle it. I don't want you or anyone to dumb down their game just to play nice and make me feel better about myself. That's not how I or anyone else is going to get any better. It is a shallow victory to defeat someone with their hands tied. I can understand the 3rds desire to focus on different objectives, and I can understand not always falling back on and using the same tricks, but I really cannot understand why you would make this rule.

It is serious, but not deadly serious. Mild bodily harm serious. I'm not trying to be an arrogant ass, or say "omg the 3rd is so good". Honestly though when I can go back and look at the number of Lyra + Reaper screenshots I've seen where Reaper has in excess of 100 kills in a round in the transport there is clearly a problem.
Maybe the roflcopter will make a comeback at some point in the future
now hopefully the drama will die. I hate internet drama, especially internet drama that I create through stupid posts :P

I happen to believe this was a very wise and strategic move on Crux's part
First off, as he already pointed out - its not making the 3rd any sharper when they shoot fish in a barrel.
Secondly, while many of us hardcore TGers have super secret ways of downing the demon above.. many pubbies simply flee in panic and after dying countless times with no end in sight - leave the server.
While I think this is a 'valid' tactic, its probably best used by squads who cant get it done any other way ( yes that was a dig ) or in competition. When you think about it, if the competition has little or no way of defending against the tactic - its no challenge - in those cases Id say work on another aspect of your game rather than beat people senseless with one hand tied behind your back just because you can.. thats not the TG way.

eh hem, I think you should make an addendum to add no gunships either, I mean whenever Reaper's in a gunship, the aerial supremacy is awe-inspiring

If that were the case, we wouldn't do anything that we are good at. The case is the Transport while powerful, serves little tactical value on this case of ROLFCopter. We have had rounds of 100+ points but still lost the round, and not close at all. The transport can kill, but it's very hard to take or hold points. It's easy to push away with one SAAW and a aware walker and tear up a transport. I has its moments, but the 3rd is a sepciality squad focused in close-quaters combat, fireteams, and other small squad ops. Tranposts really dont come into play in our squads goals of competition and some other reasons. Originally Posted by Bomber

In this post, Crux is correct. While th roflcopter is great and all, I've always had an issue with one game mechanic. The ability to repair it from the inside, in flight.
The copter takes damage from the outside in with the damage originating from the outer shell. Who wants to go outside to repair in combat flying around? Great stuff for movies, but...realistic???
Anyway, I've been inside AND the victim's of roflcopters. It's fun the first time, but unoriginal and ultimately unnecessary in the spirit of TG. IMHO...FWIW...IIKWIWSIBH.Without darkness, how could we measure the light?

can the roflcopter be taken down? I believe so. But the fact that it hardly ever seems to happen makes me wonder. At some point in the next week or so we're going to do some testing on our private server, and let people know what we figure out.
