Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
People who have been playing 2142 on TG servers regularly (and those who are IHS) for the last year should already have ribbons like Combat Acion, Medic, Support, Assualt, Distinguished Defense. We have all done the requirements of those ribbons umpteen million times. And for squad leader and air cavalry those who regularly step up and fill those positions have performed the requirements of those ribbons at least a handful of times in a year. I would fill out more ribbon nomination forms but the few times I have nothing has ever come of it. If I am not going to get feed back about why the nomination was denied then why fill out more. Maybe the admin. judges need to nominate one of their own for every nomination to write a brief (can be very brief)explanation as to why a nomination is denied so those that do turn in nominations can learn why what was done was not correct and fix the issue for later nominations. Also, that nominated admin can write a quick "well done, thanks for the nomination" when nominations are done correctly thereby boosting chances of future nominations being written. I've written up four nominations in the last year and have never heard anything about why those particular nominations were denied. I don't think it is up to the nominator to keep up with the nomination once it is turned over to admins. Admins must be responsible for getting back to the community in a timely fashion about the success or failure of ribbon nominations. If the admins are getting a handful of nominations from same people over and over then there should be five minutes to write back to the nominator about the status of the nomination. Help get more nominations written by helping out the community.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Honestly the standard required for some of these ribbons is just too high. The problem is the skilled players on the server *regularly* perform to the level of what should be a level 1 or level 2 on many of the ribbons. So people nominate, and even though you might have gotten 35 kills, died 5 times, capped a gajillion flags and done some pretty awesome things, since you did the same thing three rounds ago it isn't spectacular enough :P
There just needs to be a better perspective. Don't judge everyone on the server by the best performances of the best players. Those players should be getting the level 1 and 2 ribbons easily, and give everyone else a fair shot at the level 1s at the very least.
You look at what has been awarded within the 2142 community. There are only a small handful of combat action awards. Azura is the *only* person with an assault II. Just two examples where I think there are so many deserving recipients. Yes, lack of nominations is part of the problem. But I also think someone needs to more clearly define the requirements, and take a broader perspective when voting yay or nay.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
I agree that feedback regarding inadequate ribbon submissions would go a long, long way towards improving the level of use the system receives. I know I have written a handful of them myself and haven't really seen much come out of it. I know it would be more work for an already overloaded subcommittee of a subcommittee, but I have to say that when I was a wee TG-ite perusing the boards for the first time one of the things that stuck out in my mind was the ribbon system. As it is a draw for new players, and therefore a boon to the community, perhaps some additions to the team could be in order to help facilitate timely feedback.
A one liner PM would go a long way towards seeing increased utilization of the system. It could be as simple as saying "Admin team didn't think the recommendation highlighted the ribbon requirements, which are [blah], consider a rewrite;" or "For this type/level of ribbon, we tend to look for a greater qualification than was described;" or even a PM saying the nomination was accepted. Such feedback would allow people to work on, resubmit, or improve future ribbon nominations and make the community feel more involved in the process.
Edit: Essentially I agree with everything Grim said

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Is that how it works? The higher classes are for a higher set of requirements? So if I'm nominating Crux for the Assault Ribbon and he already has level 2, my report has to be that much more convincing and I need to research the level of ribbons that he has?
I thought the levels were just a representation of how many time you had been awarded a certain ribbon and not necessarily a representation of a higher set of standards.A captain of the most awesome IHS ever and remember to burn before you pillage.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Class 1 and 2 rarely get shot down. Reasons are usally poorly writen nominations with just 2 or 3 sentences and very gerenalized. Sometimes these do get passed in high profile players where we all know he is a server's best.
Class 3 require some sort of in depth nomination (AARs) or high profile community achivement. These dont get shot down to often so long the story backs up the nomination.
Class 4 and 5 are very rare and require outstanding preformace or long term community involvement. These will be turned down and sometimes will require 2 or 3 nominations for the same person for it to finally pass.
And admin can advocate in a nomination. Other for the player or against the player. This is more importent in smaller and general nominations where there is no AAR.
Overall, Do you feel someone should have a chance at an award? Then nominate! don't worry what everyone else thinks or says. Just submit it and let the admins work it out. We usally end up with 0-4 nominations so its not taken us from our games that much. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Well to be fair Eroak, class 1 rarely gets shot down, depending on the ribbon. Class 2 often gets shot down, especially depending on the ribbon. Combat Action, Distinguished Defense or whatever it is called - those ones don't pass easy even at the level 1. Or at least they haven't traditionally.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Well, yeah. I agree with those who say that while people may do some great thing, like a great shot that saves the squad or CO when he's busy or something, but that doesn't deserve a ribbon, otherwise, everybody would get one.
Though i do admit that some people do need and deserve ribbons. But the problem is, most people don't take the time through a day and go "Hm, who did great today that somebody should notice?" Sorry to say, most people don't even really get invovled with the clan. Not on the deep level some of you are on.
So that's all i wanted to say on that.

Re: Ribbons: 2 for me, none for you.
Something that helps:
Everytime I'm ingame I have a pice of paper and a pencil lieing right next to me. For several reasons:
1) There are situations when I need to take a quick note (especially in Scrims)
2) I keep track of the admining I do
3) If I see someone performing well (especially in Scrims) I write down that name + the ribbon that came to my mind.
