Re: Meet your SL
Name: draeh
Age: 36
2142 Experience: 1y 8m
SL Experience: ~6m
Description of SLing Style:
I tend to hold back and protect myself as a spawn point from which to send my droogies into the fray.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
My personal preference is in defense. Fending off advances and hunting down the SLs responsible makes me happy.
What is your philosophy for SLing:
Maintain a forward spawn point and keep the squad updated with threat information while they do the dirty work. I often give my squad the freedom to choose the appropriate kit after briefing them on where we are going and what we will be doing. I'm not hardcore. I'm there for the fun and camaraderie.
Name your greatest weakness:
I am slow to react on offense. If my advance gets thwarted, I sometimes linger too long in one spot while trying to decide what to do next.
Advice for new SLs:
Just do it.
Advice for COs:
Communicate.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: TG-SC LordKelvin
Age: 19
2142 Experience: ~1 year
SL Experience: ~2 months
Description of SLing Style: I tend to be a very... um... one-track minded SL. I decide on an objective, I work towards it, give my squad orders to aid in it's completion, and then turn them loose. After the dust settles, I identify a new objective, determine a rudimentary attack plan, and go from there. I dislike and am generally incapable of issuing member-specific orders. I let my SM's do their thing. I'm there as a spawn point and a figure-head, but each SM is free to make his own combat decisions. I also like single two or three-man armor squads. I move such a squad around the map as needed, sometimes shelling a given flag the whole round to provide cover. I like doing that, it's zen-like, and there's a lot of fun in matching wits with dozens of engineers ready to ruin your day.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded: I'm an offensive player. I can't help it. While a heated defense is often enjoyable and sets the adrenaline pumping, I want to keep it pumping. I'm not afraid to throw myself forward into the fray. Not to say I throw away tickets unneccessarily... I just move up to establish new beacheads whenever possible. I squadlead from the front, most often, until I've reached my objective. Then I hide, acting as a mobile and reactive spawn for my SMs. Hiding like this gives me time to think over my plan for the next attack, or to change my mind if things go wrong.
Name your greatest weakness: I'm pretty stubborn, to the point of predictability. If you've taken a flag I was holding, I'll probably be coming back to assault it. Multiple times. My other weakness (besides inexperience and a bit of uncertainty) is my tendency to change my mind faster than my squad can react to it. I'll issue an order to attack a flag, change my mind, and issue another order halfway there to attack a different one. Many SM's get confused by this, and I just need to work on consistency and dedication to my chosen path.
Advice for new SLs: Be brave! As a new squadleader myself, I'm trying to get myself out of the rut of predictability and do something new or interesting. Test the craziest ideas, they might just work :P
Advice for COs: Please, for the love of God, keep your report terse and to the point. I can't stand it when the CO is jabbering constantly, and I tend to lose track of who's talking and sometimes think it's my SMs talking, and then they are confused by my answers to seemingly "phantom" questions. Also, feel free to push me around.... Your plan is probably better than mine
Any other comments: Please, Please, PLEASE do not ninja the armor when I make a squad for it. It makes me a very sad Kelvin and I will most likely flip out, causing otherwise avoidable ticket loss in the process.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: ionpig-A
Age: 37
2142 Experience: whenever it was released
SL Experience: ~1 year
Description of SLing Style:
If I am playing in a serious frame of mind you will RUN. A lot. You will also encounter the enemy often. You will revive me often. You will take flags. I tend to talk a lot and you may want me to be quiet. Tough, now get your body on the flag!
If I'm running a bit more relaxed you will likely find yourself playing a happy defensive role though you will still be "in the fight" and have plenty of opprotunity to help your team.
Once in a while you will all be asked to carry a Pilum in one hand and a boquet of flowers in the other. You will have fun.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
Depends on mood.
What is your philosophy for SLing:
Contribute to your team's overall stance while making sure your squad members enjoy their time on the TG servers.
Name your greatest weakness:
I sometimes lead from the front when I shouldn't
Advice for new SLs:
STAY ALIVE!

Re: Meet your SL
Name: daithi1
Age: 17
2142 Experience: From release
SL Experience: ~6 months
Description of SLing Style:
Generally very serious. I will mess with squad members heads a little if I know they won't take it badly. I have no problems with telling people what to do. I will tell you if you are doing something wrong. I don't mean it badly though.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
Depends on situation and what is needed. Probably better at defence
What is your philosophy for SLing:
To get the best possible out of my squad members with the aim of winning the round.
Name your greatest weakness:
If a round is going badly as an SL I tend to give up and get disheartened. I'm also pretty sure I've offended a few SMs I shouldn't have.
Advice for new SLs:
Don't be afraid of VOIP or ordering people around.
Advice for COs:
Play smart and tell me what's going on, especially where anemy armour is.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Sargentkyle
Age: 15
2142 Experience: 2 or so years
SL Experience: I only started squad leading on TG very recently(and I usually only do it in the afternoon)
Description of SLing Style: I play to win but I try not to get upset when we lost as long as I feel we gave it a good try. I switch between leading from the front and running and hiding to stay alive as I feel the situation warrants.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
It completely depends on the situation and what the rest of my team is doing. If no-one else is pushing out to get the bleed off I go for it, but if everyone is moving out and leaving a large hole I tend to stay back rather then go with the flow.
What is your philosophy for SLing:
Go for the win, but don't be upset if you lose as long as you gave your squad 100% and got the same back from them.
Name your greatest weakness:
I die a lot, I sometimes have trouble deciding when I should move in and when I should move in and when I should run and hide and let my squad members attack.
Advice for new SLs:
talk to your sqaud and get them to talk to you, its so much easier to SL when your SM's are talking and giving reports(its also much more fun!).
Advice for COs:
Keep the squad leads informed and don't be afraid to give orders to them. If they see a problem with the order then its up to them to discuss it with you.
Proud to have been an Irregular!

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Echo-48
Age: 17
2142 Experience: 3 months
SL Experience: 1 month
Description of SLing Style:
I try to be fluid. If a large number of enemies is taking a flag of ours, I'll drive to a back flag of theirs, take it, defend until a large number of them begin assaulting, and the return to take on the depleted defenses of the flag I originally left. This involves lots of running, much to the dismay of my squad members.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
Defense is much more manageable for me. On offense I tend to hang back and let my squad do the flag taking.
What is your philosophy for SLing:
Always know how the enemy is moving, and move accordingly. Look for holes in their defense for an opportunity to strike, and leave none in your own defense.
Name your greatest weakness:
Indecision. I am frequently looking at my map and studying enemy movement to decide where to go. Many, many times I have been run over in our UCB because I was looking at my map and strategizing while running for a FAV.
Advice for new SLs:
Remember to keep a light air to you personality. Squad members(pubbies in particular) are more likely to follow your orders if you cut them a little slack, but keep reminding them of what they are supposed to be doing. I use this method when half of my squad goes recon.
i.e. "Ok, guys I don't mind you going recon, but you have to keep up with the rest of us and support the squad. Run off to snipe on your own, and I'll kick you to make room for someone who will actually benefit the team."
Advice for COs:
Keep me updated on what's going on, and try to inform me of an opportunities in the enemies defense I might take advantage of.
992 Kills in the Rorsch to date!

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Mech__Warrior
Age: 17
2142 Experience: About 5 months
SL Experience: About 2 months
Description of SLing Style: I am with my squad.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded: It depends. I usually attack a position with another squad. I also break my squad into fireteams.
What is your philosophy for SLing: Assist your squad with the Squad Leader items and with deployable stuff. Also provide leadership and tons of intel.
Name your greatest weakness: I get separated from my squad-mates and I die frequently. Perhaps its because I'm always the front person in a formation..
Advice for new SLs: Don't be afraid to step up to the plate. Most good SLs were at your status once.
Advice for COs: Be more involved with your squads. If you haven't assigned a squad an order, assign them one. Don't give an order to attack Pond in Belgrade if that squad is at Monorail.
Any other comments: I die a lot in my squads but my squad-mates make up for it in skill.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: MDFubar
Age: 41
2142 Experience: Since it came out
SL Experience: 2 years
Description of SLing Style: I typically lead from the front, I do fall back once we have gotten where we should be. I will often send my squad to clean up a flag and move in another direction by myself...having my SM's spawn on me as they die. I will look for holes in thier defense or ours and try to take advantage of them. Always trying to anticipate what the enemy might do. I also love to create havoc for the enemy at rear flags.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded: I am pretty much Offensive, I tend to lead a charge and assault flags. Sometimes I will put my squad in an outnumbered situation so that the enemy will pull troops back to come after us, relaxing the defense for our team to advance.
What is your philosophy for SLing: Have fun, let's get in the fight and make them cry! If I can make more than one squad chase mine, we have done a great justice to our team by weakening thier defenses.
Name your greatest weakness: Leading from the front when I should be falling back, depending on the squad. Sometimes, I just expect too much.
Advice for new SLs: Do your thing and manage your squad. If you want advice, ask. If you want people to check out your style, invite them to your squad. Many times I enjoy squading with new SL's or just being an SM. HAVE FUN!
Advice for COs: If you need something, ask....but have trust in the fact that you orders will be carried out. If you can't fullfill a request, please let me know why. Don't just say "no". If I ask for supplies, that usually means that we are in desperate need in order to continue our task. If you want a charge to take place, please do a UAV in front of it. Don't waste your orbitals. If you don't know, ask.
Any other comments: I don't ask too much, just keep me alive. I DO NOT CARRY A BEACON!

Re: Meet your SL
Name: DrBeat
2142 Experience: 1 year
SL Experience: 2 months
Description of SLing Style: Play to win and if you lose, try again. Have fun. Do your best. Be proactive.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded: Very defensive. I'd rather pick a point and hold it, then push for a new one.
What is your philosophy for SLing: Save the Reader, save the world! Kidding! SL is a field leader, nudge the squad in the right direction, make the final decision, let your squad be all they can be.
Name your greatest weakness: I tend to not know when to push out, or when to abandon ship!
Advice for new SLs: Just give it a shot! That's what I'm doing!
Advice for COs: If you need me ask. I can't read your mind.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Sir-Nerd (call me Nerd if your in my squad)
Age: 17
2142 experience: a little under a year.
SL: 1.5 months consistently
Style: To have fun, if it starts to turn into a grind, i rush to help break the boredom and get a few kicks out of the round. Even if this wastes tickets, we've all seen the old Camp G grind and i hate to just sit a spam nades. I will have my squad hang back and old outlying flags to hold bleed though.
Offense or defense: I shift between both, although my best squads have been centered on just holding one flag.
Philosophy: Someone to give orders and spawn off of.
Weekness: I tend to be suicidal with my tactics and i lead the pack. This gets me killed a lot.
Advice: Learn from other great SL's by being in their squads. Take good habits and tactics and make them your own.
CO advice: If i tell you that there is a rush and you don't notice. Please take note respond accordingly. Also, if my squad is on the other side of the map, don't tell me to run to the a flag that has other friendlies closer.
Other comment: If a lot of people ask for invites and i don't invite you, i usually try to get you in the next round.Former Cutthroat, established Merc.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Zhohar
Age: 21
2142 Experience: 18 months.
SL Experience: 550 hours ingame.
Description of SLing Style:
Very aggressive, very fast, and very much so from the front. When I'm hopped on adrenaline, I think faster and act smarter. I need adrenaline to do smart things.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
Unbridled aggression. Followed by a bunch of clever things and a lot of revives.
What is your philosophy for SLing:
"Either do it right, or don't do it at all."
"Timing is everything."
"The more of us there are together, the stupider we all are."
"Don't engage people on their own terms."
"Try hard to figure out what you did wrong and then don't do it again."
"If it ain't fun, stop doing it!"
Name your greatest weakness:
The "big dog" mentality. I perform best when I feel like an underdog, like I'm being pushed against something I have no hope of overcoming.
Advice for new SLs:
You're gonna suck. A lot. So you've got a choice. You can:
1. Say "I suck
" and keep doing what you're doing.
or ...
2. Get pissed off at yourself and pimp your game!
It's as simple as that.
Advice for COs:
Don't tell me things that are on the map.
Why is SLing fun?

And that makes it so much better!"This is what Zho feels like while using C4 and USAS-12: link.

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Fl1pmode
Age: 18
2142 Experience: 1 year
SL Experience: 3 months
Description of SLing Style:
Generally aggressive, but without doing something irrational tactically. I do not try to ask my squad to do something that will get us all killed or will not accomplish our objectives. I usually strike at flags/silos when I am confident that we will take it. I also try to keep a positive attitude while playing because being negative just impacts the rest of the squad in a similar fashion.
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded:
Offensive 99% of the time. Unless I see it being tactically wise to go defend something, I will be out there, sewing death and destruction with my squad. Or just do whatever the CO tells our squad to do unless it is unreasonable (at which point I try to clarify the order to make sure I understood it right).
What is your philosophy for SLing:
I am stubborn in a good way. I focus on getting the job done while keeping a friendly and fun attitude. Whenever we are about to embark on a risky maneuver, I try to keep an upbeat attitude about it, usually saying "Fun times ahead!" I also try to avoid criticizing my SMs and rather try to explain what they are doing wrong and tell them how they could improve as players.
Name your greatest weakness:
Hot-hotheadedness. I love plunging into the thick of the action and sometimes, it is not the wisest thing. I am slow to change my strategies and tactics on the fly and it handicaps me and my squad from doing something useful on the battlefield, meaning I will stand there and think about what to do next.
Advice for new SLs:
Be friendly, don't fly off the handle if your squad mates are under-performing according to you. Likewise don't be intimidated if you have experienced players in your squad. Ask for suggestions from the experienced players on how to improve your SL'ing abilities. And don't be shy, just go for it! You don't have much to lose, you only have a lot to gain
Advice for COs:
Keep the squad leaders updated with important information and be able to relay. If they ask for new orders, think a moment and then decide where to send them. Be friendly and avoid overspamming the "Spotted" button and the VOIP button

Zhohar- "We need to get Eroak into this squad before he TK'es the whole team"

Re: Meet your SL
Name: Experiment626
Age: 36
2142 Experience: Since it came out
SL Experience: 3+ years...does BF2 count?
Description of SLing Style: I have been accused of being a serious competitor for the 2:30 minute mile. Can I help it if you guys want to wear all that armor to drag you down. Seriously, I bought stock in Nike and I'm just upholding my interests. I am a very, very, mobile squad leader. If we are in a spot for more than a few minutes; there is a GOOD reason. (Probably catching my breath and waiting for stamina!)
Offensive-minded or defensive-minded: Offensive. Period. End of story. Even defending I've been told I'm offensive... um wait, that doesn't sound right...
What is your philosophy for SLing: Situational awareness!!! I have 1 eye on the mini map, 1 on my sights, and 1 on Reaper... I hardley ever get the most kills when I lead a really good squad, but my SMs consistently bring us up to #1 or #2 (if I'm having a slow game...). I am too busy LEADING. I act as our squads own little CO, constantly checking the minimap and BIG picture. Especially if we have no CO. I've been around for awhile and I pretty much know how the old timers play (actually; I think I squadlead most of them into TG
Name your greatest weakness: Squad beacons. I tend not to use them; which really has got us wiped out more often than not. I much prefer to have the squad spawn on me rather than have them podding in to the rear someplace. I need to change that.
Advice for new SLs: Talk, talk, and then talk some more. No Mic...DON'T SL. Information is the key. Even if you have no clue and are nervous as hell, issue orders (verbally) and just keep right on talking. Make a decision, good or bad, it doesn't matter. If some pubies join your squad, welcome them and make sure you tell them how you roll (Hold spawn at beginnings, any kit you want, you go engy, you go recon, etc.)
Knowing who is good at what, helps me determine if I need to micromanage or if I have the luxury to "Split" the squad and have a sergeant run 2 others. This comes from experience and the only way your going to get it, is to try! Don't be afraid to SL, and don't be discouraged if the only ones who join your squad are pubbies. That is a prime recruiting opportunity, and you are the first TGer they may have met.
Advice for COs: Learn to use individual squad channels and not spam all squads!! We have enough chatter in our own squad. Also, SLs, when talking to the Ol' Man upstairs...make sure you say your SQUAD NUMBER FIRST!
Any other comments: Don't burn yourself out on one game. The community is very diverse. Try everything! Take a break from time to time, or you'll wind up like me and disappear for 6 months or more at a time.
