    Obscenely dumb question...

OK, I am embarassed to ask this but I am dying to know since this will help improve some of my in game decisions. I have played this game since release and I have yet to figure out how precisely these work. Support and medic boxes. I use them all the time. For the life of me I can't figure out why sometimes I can drop a crate and pop out another one in my hand, and other times I can not pop a second one out for an extended period of time. This leaves the decision, drop the crate on a group needing it and run on to your objective, or pause while holding it for them to ensure it is available ten seconds later.

I imagine there is something in the manual, but I have a horrible habit of not reading those things, and I could probably google it, but I figured this was easier, albeit humiliating.

Early in the game, you could pop out medic boxes very quickly, but they noticed a possible stat padding loophole with it, so they put a minimum timer between charges on them. Sometimes it glitches and still can pull one again quickly.

Also, the med hub (and maybe ammo, not sure) will dispense its product quicker if they are held, and slower if thrown.

But they dispense more of the ammo/health and over a wider area. I take kits I find on the ground and deploy their stuff.

It reloads/heals faster in your hands but will run out quickly in crowds. I've noticed that the hubs will come back to your hands after being dropped only if when at the time of drop it was full or pretty darn close to it.

The waiting time before you can bring another hub out again seems to be equivalent to be the time it takes an empty hub to fully replenish.

I prefer holding it in my hands.
The boxes can be destroyed if they are on the ground, such as with guns, nades, and orbitals. That is why you never through your med hub on the ground in the middle of an orbital. Plus, when a box is on the ground, the enemy can see its little icon through walls and stuff, giving away your position

This is the main reason why I don't put my box on the ground when on ennemy territory but if I need to heal myself and my teammates while having to shout, I will throw it down anyways.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you will say "Get health!" or something similar when you throw out your medkit. So, depending on what team you're on, you may give yourself away to the enemy.

    Re: Obscenely dumb question...

The only time I throw a box down is if I need to defend myself while healing or if a group of 3 or 4 people, at least, are gathered at some choke point and keep getting killed or splash damage. Otherwise, why leave something on the ground that the enemy can use? Same goes for ammo boxes. I didn't realize the icon for enemy boxes could be seen, I always play with that off because it gets a bit confusing and takes away from the realism for me, thanks for the tip.

Wow this question is far from stupid as I feel happy you did. This same thing has happend to me but now I'm more informed. Thanks Spur for being brave enough to ask the question and all others for helping in answering it. I know I can count on you guys.
