Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Dear Lyra,
Does the EMP gun on the Walker's secondary gun work on ground vehicles? or Does it only work on air targets?

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
1. How to airburst nades properly? What is the optimum distance from target, if target is at same sea elevation?
2. Why do friendly motion mines sometimes explode at a friendly vehicle?Fight!

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
That´s actually hard to say. Years of CampG Grenadespam make you get a feeling. A good airburst explodes about 1.5 meters from the ground.
The optimum distance is hard to say as I often airburst using the right mouse button, so it´s very variable. If you throw a Grenade right up in the air about 60% will give you an airburst in the face tho
So the only tip I can give you is to practise airbursting and then practise some more.
Why do friendly motion mines sometimes explode at a friendly vehicle?
That´s simple. When the driver gets out while the Vehicle is making contact with a friendly motion mine it will explode as it will detect the vehicle as "neutral" once the driver is out. Any other passengers won´t count.
The walker is basically not more resistant to EMP grenades but the way of movement makes it easier to escape when there is a hole in the EMP lock. A walker will always make 1 step forward when you run forward. So it only needs 1 splitsecond of EMP free time to make 1 step. A tank and APC have no chance of making any real progress with a small window of EMP free time.

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Coming back to this after a while. While I don´t have any specific spots on mind atm I will tell you something else. There is a strategy I often use against good teams / players. I´ll call it..
"Lure, Bait and Punish"
It´s pretty simple yet can be effective. You go to a very obivous Rocket spot like the fence opening at cerbere landing or just behind the wall on tollstation. A spot I usually would never go against a good team that knows how to use rockets.
Now you fire one Salvo of Rockets from there and INSTANTLY back up. Good players will see your Rockets and quickly want to punish you. So be quick and they will be unable to hit you..... BUT... they just gave away THEIR position!
Quickly rush forward and try to punish them while they reloading and wondering why their rockets hit nothing.

Oh infamous Lyra,
Do you think this thread will ever get its fifth star back?
on topic...
Does the EU walkers main guns have better or worse splash damage than the PAC walker?

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Up to 140 ish ping the game usually will still be smooth. Above 160-220 the game will lag behind and studder a bit often. Also whenever you zoom in you will get a kid of double zoom in animation and your aim will lag behind
The higher your ping is the more shots you make will not count. On the other hand your model might be a bit harder to hit, too. Because the lag prediction has to work harder. The comp teams sometimes complained i was hard to hit.[/QUOTE]
So to clarify...a better ping would be 25 versus 100? I recently upgraded my DSL and the game seems to be faster. I went from ~60 to ~20. Is this normal or am I imagining it? Also, when people are "shooting at me," it looks like they are shooting the other direction when in CQB. Is that their lag? Because my ping is better, does that make each of my potential hits better? Is it harder for people with lower pings (>20) to hit me? What's my biggest advantage of having a better ping?

Yes, the lower your ping, the better. Upgrading your internet connection should have made your connection and therefore your game faster, so yes, that should be normal.
As for your other questions, the only one I can answer (and probably be right about) is that if you have a better ping, you'll more easily and accurately be able to move about and aim (no stuttering when moving, etc.), whether on foot or in a vehicle.Last edited by Culny; 01-24-2009 at 11:06 PM. Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
You draw in idiots around you to shine brighter in their middle
20 ping is excellent, even tho 60 is nice, too. So ya an awesome ping makes it very likely for your shots to count. You will notice it most when someone is running at fast speed from left to right or vice versa infront of you.
People often say the PAC walker guns have more splash damage. I have no direct proof for that tho. Not really noticable different so I´d say about same.

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Dear Lyra:
1) Is there any news on a 'replacement' to 2142 (basically a new BF game for the PC) and if so, is there a release date yet?
2) To the best of your knowledge, what percentage of the 2142 community from TG will automatically transfer over when it's released?
3) How many hours a day on average do you play 2142 and what percentage of that is played on TG servers?
