Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Will it be static at the activation and deactivation point or will the diamond move?
How long after the activation/deactivation does it stay up?
What is the max. range can the enemy be from the Support helmet to be tracked (I'm obviously not expecting an exact value, but do you have to be really close, kinda mid-range, a fair way away, or will it even work from fairly long distances)?Anger is a gift - Malcolm X

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
The Diamonds will be static and stay up for maybe 3 seconds. it won´t move. The minimap dot however will move and show the exact position.
We couldnt dermit the range of the unlock. Since somehow on the testserver (unranked) it worked all the way from harbour to EU. Which I think cannot be true lol

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Your answers are appreciated Lyra, many thanks.
Nearing the end of my 2142 time last year I was keen to find ways of getting behind enemy lines, firstly because squads which can go behind enemy lines can offset the tide and the battle, and secondly, I had too few FPS to even move where all the action was happening, so as to be of some sort of value to the team I thought this would be the best way.
(Now just to impart some of my own knowledge):
Camo and then having my squad spawning in seemed to be the best solution if you know where to go, if you have general knowledge of maps and how an opposition will usually set up. Also the best places can sometimes be the most obvious places, sometimes right down the area you'd normally be suicidal to go into, like straight up the middle ramp from PAC -> Harbour on Gibraltar. The Ghost really did work wonders at times, but I was just wondering about it's limitations, just for the future in case I get in the mood for a few more rounds, as well as just my good-old curiosity.Anger is a gift - Malcolm X

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Oh wise lyra,
Can you give me some tips on RDX?
|TG| Sproge "Tiger how did you flip that tank?!"
|TG-SC| PM07SNV "We need another world war to base more games on..."
|TG-AIR| DrBeat: "I just dropped my propane tank in the fire again"

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Basically look for spots where you can get something between you and the RDX quickly.
- Corners
- Ledges
- Staircases
- Backside of tucks
This lets you toss RDX very close to yourself but you won´t get blown away.

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Lyra, could you predict the remaining lifetime of 2142? Is it still going strong or do you think it will die down sooner rather than later?

When should heavy armor be used?

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Hard to say. Only an awesome teamwork based BF3 could strangle 2142.
2142 is merely a hull. A very balanced and fun one. But how long it will live on depends on the players. Are they able to perfect their skills and teamwork? Reach a new level? Become Dr Manhatten? Or will old knowledge be forgotten?
When you want to be slow and easy to hit. In the last 70% of my 2142 lifetime I never ever used heavy armor on my soldier. Not in Comp play, not on the TG server, not on Pubby raids.
Even if you think you just died because you had light armor on - there were most likely 10 other situations where it saved your ass over heavy.

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
So will you leave 2142 if bf3 shows up to be what it is expected (teamwork and realistic environment)? Or rather make that one your new favorite?
I have never used light armor for other than running, so how big was the diffrence with damage between these two? Is it just about one bullet or are there cases when it doesn't matter which you wear (damage not movement)

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Nobody knows
I have a feeling 2142 will stay unique in a way forever. The future way to gather intel (Commanders and UAV but moreso IDS, Otus, Pulsemeter, Netbat) make this game unique and you are able to play it RTS (Real Time Strategy) style ! Seriously if you use your intel methods propperly the gameplay is closer to Dawn of War, Company of Heroes etc than to a First Person Shooter.
You take around 12% more damage in the chest area with light armor. (Zeller does 80dmg on heavy and 90 on light).I have never used light armor for other than running, so how big was the diffrence with damage between these two? Is it just about one bullet or are there cases when it doesn't matter which you wear (damage not movement)
Not affected by armor choice:
- Legs
- Arms
- Pants
- Head
Light armor is a double bonus. Not only you can run double the distance BUT your stamina will also regenerate double the speed. (The bar fills up the same speed - but you get more stamina per tick)
4 Classes and Armor choice:
- For the core of your Squads a Medic you will need that Sprint to run around and follow your Squadlead. Make the extra distance for more revives. It doesn´t matter if your medics take more damage since the defib can fix it up in an instant and makes you reach far more revives than you die more by using light armor.
- If you are a Sniper or Support you might think you can wear heavy armor when you prone alot. But when you prone you usually get headshotted a lot since the head actually is the biggest target on prone. I´d rather have more stamina to run.
- As Engineer your main opponents are vehicles. I am sure that Tank Shell or APC Mortar cares about the body armor you wear. Light Armor it is all the way.Last edited by Lyramion; 03-13-2009 at 01:00 PM.

Re: The Oracle: Ask Lyra A Question !
Actually as an engineer, if I'm going to be taking armor of some sort I go with heavy armor. Reason being that if I'm taking let's say a walker, the only reason I'm going to be out of the walker is to repair, I'll mostly likely die with it when/if it blows up, so since I don't really need the sprint, having that extra protection gives a slightly longer time to hit 'e' to get back into the walker if I get shot in the chest/back while repairing.
Other than that, light armor all around!
