First and most important step is to lose any exorbitant expectations of what your Squads might achieve. It will only make you feel bad if your Squad is not doing well and think you might be a hassle to your team. It takes many, many months to became a top class Squadleader and even they get Squadmembers that can make SLing really hard.
You need to step up as SL and while always trying your best - expect to be learning while failing. Miserably and many times. You have some of the worldŽs best 2142 SLs here at
TG you will be up against and you should take no shame in losing to them.
So now that you wonŽt have any big expectations you can work from 0 and make progress step by step.
TG people like communication - no they LOVE and STARVE for it. Be sure to always keep communication flowing inside your Squads. Tell them what you think about the battle situation. What you think should be done now. Ask people why they just separated from your Squad. If you think your Squad is not doing well then ask your SMs if they have an idea to improve the situation.
As a fearless example IŽd place Fubar here (forgive me but I think you will get a hearty laugh). Some days his Squads just die like flies. But the mood in his Squad always is great, awesome and happy. Even if your team is losing many people will still have fun.
If you SL try to make simple and workable Squads. Even a new SL has to take the authority to clearly tell his SMs on what kits he expects. Too many specialist kits like Support and Recon will make your Squad fail. Try to get 4 Medics in your Squad minimum on non-armor maps. You should always try to have a Support with an IDS in also. It just makes tons of difference.
Chose the right maps to SL in the beginning and easy goals to achieve. SLing a PAC attack on Berlin might net a great reward but also a hugh chance ending up in frustration. An order like "defend Southtown and the Mainroad on Cerbere" is easier. You have quite some time to set up a defense and a lot of help from your team.
An even easier approach might be limiting your Squad size to 4 people and take a task like "RDX and Mine Tollstation" on EU CampG or "Defend Inner Bridge Lock" on EU Suez. Very easy to coordinate and you can quickly see which SMs follow your orders fine and which seem to wander off and not care about your orders.
Alternatively you might also want to stalk a "Maniac Juggernaut Kill Everything" Squad. Then defend the flag they just took while they move on to plow deeper into the enemy lines.
This being said always be free to ask anythign you want. SL some. Ask some more. SL on. New and different questions will arrise.
