Whose vehicle is it?
Vehicles being multi crew implicitly imply TEAMWORK.
I understand caging a ride in an empty or near empty vehicle on large armor maps but the problem arises from hogging or in some cases hijacking a vehicle currently being utilized. The classic incident is an engineer repairing their tank only to have fellow teammate hop into the vehicle and drive it off (grand theft tank). I once saw this happen to an Admin – Banhammer.
Examples:
Buggy Doom Squad, squad leader driving and two non-squad members who refuse to get out.
APC being repaired and reequipped with IDS/PDS is hijacked by TG tagged member and driven to its and the onboard squad’s doom.
TG tagged and non-TG members refusing to leave gunners seat (APC/Gunship/Air Transport) – the squad leader driver parked the APC most of the game behind a building away from the battle to get the non-TG member out of the vehicle.
Lovingly repairing both enemy captured FAV and manning the MG on Toll only to have the vehicles hijacked to capture Harbor or attack the UCB (the MG gunner getting killed and the vehicle given back to the enemy in the process).
The question is not who gets the vehicle in the first place, that’s by TG Server rules first come / first serve unless command directed but who controls the vehicle that’s in play. Most commanders and squad leaders are silent on this subject – even those with mikes.
My intent is not more rules but education on vehicle courtesies:
Repairs and resupplies are always welcome.
The golden rule (but not official) on TG is to die with your vehicle - never leave a vehicle empty. Sometime to cap a flag members get out of their vehicles to prevent team kills.
Friendly or enemy vehicles that are not actively being repaired (by friendlies – kill the enemy repairers and take the vehicle).
Generally the driver / pilot are the vehicle commander, if they use the commo rose for you to get out, get out. If you are in a gunners seat please get out of it.
If you enter a vehicle and become the driver but others are in the vehicle you are not the vehicle commander, be nice and leave.
The bottom line is courtesy, maturity and teamwork.

Good Post. Who would have thought common courtesy would go so far on the battlefield of the future!

Re: Whose vehicle is it?
Nothing makes me mroe irate than a common incident such as; when I using a walker or APC and I encounter motion mines. Now 95% of the time i'm an engineer with bait. So I hope out and chuck bait to clear the obstruction. In the fraction of a moment it takes to throw and clear mines. someone hops in before the mines trigger and kill them instead because they didn't know mines where there.
Sometimes armor is left open for a moment for a reason. If its more then 3-4 seconds, there is usally an issue.
The best thing you can do, if you have a squad using armor, let the mortor and 2nd walker seat open for the squad. Even if they are left open. There are so many times where I needed someone who could hear me on Camp G defense with the walker and |TG| JonDoe is in there and cant rely the spotter information I need.
If you feel you need to get into that seat for whatever reason, THINK about what the driver/squad needs first. Dont shoot at everything you see because you want kills. Kill what needs to be killed first, ENGINGEERS. Then you need to think about giving away your dirver's position. are you fetching for kills beyound line of sight? Think, Engineers can locate your posistion because of your mortar trails and tracer fire. Don't take unnecessary shots. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

Re: Whose vehicle is it?
Nothing makes me more medieval in spirit than riders who refuse to bail out. You can be in an air transport with a million gunships up your ass, a fire alarm blaring out, your HP diving under 5 and enough TV missiles flying around to impregnate an elephant - hell no! Your passengers still refuse to get out. I dunno, it's like they're going MY SEAT! I CALLED SHOTGUN! LOL!
End result: 7 deaths. Oh, and a teamkill or two because I was trying to hover over a flag to let them drop off somewhere useful before I sacrifice myself away for the good cause, only to earn a handful of punishes in the process. Oh yes, and blocked for 30 seconds because I spammed "BAIL OUT!!!" like a maniac.
Everyone does it. Everyone. Pubbies, clanners, professionals - what have you. Some sort of twisted mentality is going on somewhere in the BF2142 world where gunship gunners bail out if they see so much as a snowflake in their windshield, while dropship passengers will hold on to their seat like if it was their new religion, come hell or Lyramion. It's just flat out beyond logic.
Also, another point I want to address. Some players adore destroying every single ride they cann around them. I've had episodes where I was sprinting for a jeep only for some teammate walker pilot to rocket it to death and leave me stranded and useless at a flag far away from the main combat zone.
How to do it the proper way: when approaching a flag, soften up the surrounding armored vehicles in case an enemy makes a run for it to counter you. Do this for every armor at the flag except those your squadmates have called dibs for and teammates who are running towards said vehicles - but do not destroy them!
Why? Because if an enemy gets in there and tries to kill you, he'll realize he's in a vehicle that's at half health. Just convenient enough for a single shell or a few rockets to dispath with ease.GOD IS DEAD. THE N00BS TEAMKILLED HIM.

Today in Tunis Harbor, I was Walkering, and the enemy walker was low in health. Driver jumped out, died. Since there was no one around, according to the UAV. I jumped out and started repairing the enemy walker. Repaired it to full health, and someone jumped in it. Went back to the other walker, and another person jumped in it! 3 minutes later, both walkers were destroyed. -__-TG Naith

Re: Whose vehicle is it?
Great post!
EU APC on fall of Berlin... I'm siting in the mortar seat shelling the enemy near EU base, keeping them from capping us out. I am purposely keeping the APC back to keep it alive when someone gets in and takes the APC trying to Rambo the thing threw the front line to a back flag. Resulting in an instant death for both of us... then he does it again... and again... After the second time i brought it to the attention of an admin, they said they would take care of it if it happened again. The third time the guy took it he got kicked by the "squadless script" before an admin could step in and ended up handing our APC right to the enemy!!!
My friends call me Y. My enemies call me... well, that's a secret.

HEAR HEAR !!!
I have had seasoned TG vets do this to me .. makes Martha Mad !
common courtesy is very uncommon
Think. Its why you have a brain.
Imagine all the horrific things which could be averted if people did that more frequently.

Re: Whose vehicle is it?
I see I'm not the only one who feels this way. Nice!

Also, I have jumped into the walker or tank when the original driver stepped out to repair and there are enemies around us BUT I immediately switch to the gunner position, unless we have armor bearing down on us and I would be more effective in the driver seat for the time being. The original driver can still jump in to escape fire and we can switch at an opportune time.
Whether we like it or not we are part of a TEAM and we have to act accordingly, especially here at TG, where that is central to the whole community. Like Martha said...THINK!
