Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
It has to have awesome teamwork and tactics to succeed. That was the attraction of BF2 from 1942 and from BF2 to BF2142. 12v12 really won't be enough to achieve that, IMO. The bigger maps allowed for more squads and more co-ordinated teamwork. Playing against thinking people is the rush ( at least for me ).
I would rather see more modern combat than a rehash of WWII, been there, done that.
Does anyone have any real info on BF3? Is it a real project?

It's already past that. It's like, what, 2144 now?
Anyway, the style of most videogames nowadays is a shame. What happened to games like Rainbow Six (the original), where a large amount of the game was actually spent planning, and the focus of the game was realism, not Rambo-ing? BF2142, in the right hands, of course, is a great game.
Now what do we have? For the most part, mindless action; go run into a crowd and kill everybody with a huge gun, for example.
And what I saw earlier at GameSpot?
Afro Ninja.
Come on! Seriously? They just don't make them like they used to...

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
Has EA been acquired by General Motors?
Two BF games simultaneously, soon followed by three Need For Speed games in the same period.
I remember UbiSoft trying to pull the same thing once. They released 4 different racing games at once. Sales split between all four games. And all four games were considered a flop.

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
for info, bad company 1 had a different squad system from BF2 / BF2142- automatically put into a squad
- cant see list of squads and who is on them
- cannot change squads or leave squad that assigned to
- your squad has 4 people
- your squad has its own VOIP channel
- there is no squad leader role who can set down orders
- there is no commander role to fill or to talk to
- have 2 spawn points to choose from, the flag your team has or the most forward member of your squad
- if 3 of the 4 squad mates are down then the last one is the final spawn point and hears an auditory warning to stay alive (and thereby keep a spawn point for the squad)
- so the squad leader responsibility of maintaining the spawn point is now automated by the computer
- they have automated what was called 'squad leader rotation' in BF2
I expect this to be the squad system for Bad Company 2
Anybody else who played BC on xbox and experienced the squad system, then please comment
so my point here is be realistic about what's around the corner
based on the info i have, 1943 and BC2 will be good games in their own right but not a continuation of the TG big game multiple squads IHS fight out, so i am not expecting that

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
it is the same engine they use for Bad Company...so expect the same as BC.
I noticed the controls on the video were XBOX controls, not PC. Seems to me that consoles will be coming out first???

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
We're gamers. We're afraid of change because the games we play we have fallen in love with the point. Though are love of 2142 certainly isn't blind.
I'm sure I'll give it a shot but I don't like the look of the kit system. 2142's kit system was simplified from the BF2 system but the kits still held distinct pros and cons. The engy doesn't farewell against infantry and such. With only 3 kits, I feel like the jobs that they perform with overlap and we will get really well rounded kits. Which is all well and good but I prefer the greater specialization.

Good point Beat...athough I would say that most soldiers in WWII had a lot of crossover, so I guess it keeps with the authenticity of the military era. Just a thought.

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
Did some digging, and BF3 it is not.
For one, 1943 is not a full game. It is a download only game that was made to be easy to pick up and play. It will retail for about $15-$20 (USD) and will feature a maximum of 24 players per server. To start off with, it will most likely ship with only three maps. Wake Island, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanel. Depending on sales, more maps may become available (maybe for free, most likely for a price).
For the most part, it will play much very much like other BF games, with the exception of improved graphics and destructible environments.
In addition to the unlimited health and ammo, each class of solder (Infantry, Riflemen, and Scout) will also have some means of taking out armor.

If that becomes the case with Battlefield Bad company 2, then I won't be playing it. Frankly, there's got to be a better teambased game out there than Bad Company. I mean, those changes have got to be the crappist flith I've ever seen. Players can't form their own squads with their own objectives anymore? Seriously? How much dumber does a teambased game have to become before we simply call it a singleplayer game without AI?
TG makes complicated games become team oriented; but most modern shooters seem to be automating teamplay, becoming dumber. If one automates too much, one not only loses the fun one had from the challenge of forging teamplay, but also destroys the very reason for TG's existance. How dumb do games have to become until we can no longer be "tactical" gamers, but simply little automated drones inhabiting the same (general) space, yipping off about how we just got another headshot? You can always make a complicated game yield teamplay, but an automated crap-fest no one can.

Re: Battlefield 1943 this summer
Well, BF1943 sound more like something that would see some activity here, but time will tell.
